All of the negative posts are about the fact that he is copying it. None of us disagree with what Sagan is saying. In fact, the reason that most of us most likely came to this video was because we thought it was another version of Carl Sagan. Only to be hit with this crap. And we're not missing the point. Everyone who thinks that this is terrible are the ones who understand what Sagan is trying to say, and that remaking it is ridiculous. And "DonFlamingo1990" was talking about irrelevant things.
You sound TERRIBLE. Who do you think you are to re-speak Carl Sagan's words. You're monotone, and you make me not want to listen to the actual video of Carl Sagan. That's saying a lot because I love his videos. You are terrible.
@Chastrie: uh NO! There was nothing wrong with the original version with Sagan's voice on it and copies of it are all over YouTube. Why would I want to hear some other guy's voice? So that I can praise him for his ability to read? Seriously...
These wonderful words are inspiring us to be as one, to be kinder and to love one another, the earth and all we share it with, it doesn't matter who speaks them, in what language, what matters is they are being said and understood. You are making nasty comments over who's voice sounds better?...I think you have missed the point completely.
Greyhaven7: You have the right idea about what you have done here. The ones who have commented negatively have totally missed it. I would like to think that Carl would be pleased. He would want our species to continue to be inspired by his thoughts and he would challenge us today to continue on, and not to fear questioning things that we were brought up to believe...
@DonFlamingo1990 Shut up you idiot. None of us are saying that we shouldn't "be inspired by his [Carl Sagan's] thoughts and he [Carl Sagan] would challenge us today to continue on, and not to fear questioning things that we were brought up to believe..." That literally has NOTHING to do with this debate.
Interesting upload. I think that negative criticism is not necesary in this vid and other. We need constructive criticism and Sagan probably agree with this. You should don't to care about stupid people and made succeeding videos. Take care.
@ariz5304 Clearly, you are the one without a life. You've made it obvious with your moronic bitching about someone deciding to add to the many adaptations of this speech. Apparently you've missed the entire point of it. Hardly surprising. I guess you need to feel bigger by tearing down other people.
Why else would you post a video of the same thing that Carl Sagan said. You copied it. You can make a tribute in a different way man. I think 90% of people would agree with me. You said it your self, "Carl Sagan was an inspirational speaker" When I listen to Carl Sagan talk about the pale blue dot and then i hear you start to say exactly what he just said...i don't no what to think. You should never tribute someone by plagiarizing their work.
ariz5304, plagiarizing is coping someone's work & taking complete credit for it without revealing the true source. A Tribute is doing a version of the same work while still giving credit to the original author. You need to mature.

do you really think you talk or sound better than Carl Sagan. I mean there are going to be a few crazies out there like billadamapimp but more than 95 percent of people would agree this video is horrible compared to any of the Carl Sagan videos. Please, as a lot of the others have said, leave it to Carl.
No, I don't think I'm better than Carl. Mr. Sagan was a great man and a seriously inspirational speaker. This is a tribute. His version inspired me to the point that I wanted to say those words for myself.
How is it that just because I've made a tribute video that you, in any way, would interpret that as me thinking that I sound better than him?
Wow, you hated it so much that you had to comment so negatively TWICE! Nice job posting this comment to the actual Sagan version by the way, well done! I think you're missing out on Sagan's message entirely. How is it so wrong to read these inspirational words? If you don't like it, don't listen.
@Greyhaven7 Your tribute is good. Most of us appreciate it.
That said, you're attempting to do something that was done to near perfection by the author, and a small number of people are incapable of separating the original from the remake you've done in their heads, and too small-minded to get the point of the message- so they're upset since it's not what they are expecting.
You can't please everyone, and if it's only the ignorant that you aren't pleasing, you're doing a good job.
@Greyhaven7 - Don't take the bait of a hater. No-one ever erected a statue in honor of a critic. Sure, Dr. Sagan's version is better because it's the original, but you were moved to speak the words yourself and that's beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
I love the Pale Blue Dot concept, it's so utterly important. I'm an atheist but I attended church with my wife the other day and the pastor preached a sermon based on this photo. Unfortunately, he twisted it to stress how singularly important we are to the Christian God, that we are so small but so infinitely important to the Christian deity, and that we should give more money to the church accordingly. I nearly vomitted.
For the memory of Carl Sagan! It's intended to make you reflect on how small we are in this universe, yet how much some people care about stupid crap so much.
Grey Haven Excellent work! You do have a nice deep and mellow voice. However I would like to see you re make the audio track. Carl has large shoes to fill. He was of course a teacher to millions, in the future maybe billions. Whether it was an interview, tv show, movie, article.. etc. Carl had the ability to make you feel like he was talking directly to you..
Wikipedia. Knowing the scale, you can calculate based on how much space a pixel contains the size (in pixels or fractions thereof) of an object. If a pixel covers 100,000miles, then an object smaller than that can still show up if it is different enough from the space around it. In this case the well-lit earth lends it light to the average color of that one pixel, thereby brightening it. See what I mean?
Well, as a guy with some expertise in videographics... not really. But I do understand what you mean in general. But you can't have anything less than 1 pixel. 0.12 pixels can't exist. They're digital, either on or off. The earth can't take up .12 of a pixel.
That, and Wikipedia isn't reliable. Can you send me the link to that Wikipedia claim. Not that my correction will last long.
Look, dude, it's saying that at that distance each pixel is 66,000 miles wide (I know the PIXEL is only like .1 milimeters wide on your screen). The earth is only 7926 miles in diameter. Therefore, even though you can't have .12 pixels... the earth is actually SMALLER than the pixel. Go get some graph paper. Imagine each square is 66,000 miles wide. now draw me a circle that would be 7926 miles wide at that same scale. If each square is a pixel, how wide is the earth in pixels? .12
You said "The Earth is only 0.12 pixels wide in the original version of this image." The fact is, you can't resolve anything below 1 pixel. In other words, the CMOS or CCD sensors can't detect anything smaller than one photoreceptor. What you read on Wikipedia is unwashed tripe.
I understand what you are saying. You clearly don't understand what I'm saying though (that or you've chosen to ignore it and just argue for the sake of arguing).
No offense, great video. Although I believe you left some emotion out. I believe my version is better for voice, but yours is definitely better for pictures. Overall, I shall click 5 stars.
Once you learn to spell, use punctuation, capitalization, and proper grammar I'll value your criticism. Since no one can see or hear you, your writing is how you present yourself on the Internet.

Where did you get the 0.12 pixel figure? It's suspect. How can anything be resolved to less than one pixel?
SardonicusRexx 4 years ago
Wikipedia. Knowing the scale, you can calculate based on how much space a pixel contains the size (in pixels or fractions thereof) of an object. Greyhaven7 4 years ago
Why are you arguing about pixel sizes, the authors point and Carl Sagan's earth is immensely tiny compared to the cosmic ballet that is the universe.
ridiai99 4 years ago
I was confused about this at first too.
CKtheFat 4 years ago
Anyone familiar with basic principles of remote sensing understands that Greyhaven's patient explanation to SardonicusRexx is correct.
A pixel is NOT "either on or off." A pixel represents a value of 0-255 in each of 3 or 4 bands.
Bright objects much smaller than a pixel are detectable if they are viewed against a dark background because they color the whole pixel.
SardonicusRexx's comments appear rather ignorant. I can't tell is he's just trolling or if he really doesn't get it.
