  • nice work lots of west coast influence

  • nice work lots of west coast influence

  • Who gives a fuck who he sounds like as long as he sounds good. You can,t always get to see Kim and Rod if you are in Britain so here is a fantastic alternative. When the words best British harp player are bandied round Mark Felthams name should be mentioned along with the great Paul Lamb.I would love to see Weston come to Liverpool. He would be well appreciated in our musical city.

  • Hell yeah!

  • The whole jump genre is re done. I wouldn't worry much about who he's borrowing from.

When it comes down to it though, being able to deliver the goods is hard enough. One in a million can create this much musical fun.

  • Wow! This is the first time I'm hearing him...he's awesome.

  • GREAT sound! and a great band behind him. Best British player I've heard yet.

  • Flat out AWESOME!!! 5 stars, totally well deserved! That's a man who knows how to entertain and earn his wages!!

  • Sounds Great, and the audience was dancing their butts off, so you know they were loving it!!! That's what counts!!!

  • Fat-ass TONE!!Play on Senor Weston!!

  • My wife and I saw West Weston and the Westones in the summer of 1991 somewhere in London, possibly at this place "Aint Nothin But the Blues." I recently transferred the tape we bought then to a CD: band members then were Andy Stevens, Guitar; Mickey Ogden, Drums; and Tony Crannry(?), Bass.

  • @zombeatle01 wow, you're going way back now. That was a great band, I wouldnt mind listening to that CD. BTW, bass player was Tony Cranney.

  • Sounds great!!! take a boat to holland an blow your harp !!

  • I don't care who he stole the licks or some of his sound from..Piazza,Wilson,Clarke or even from Queen Elisabeth her self. Weston rocks like hell and I really dig this guy!

  • where did it happen?is it in london?looks like kings head in angel area london...really cool

  • It is at Aint Nothin' But

    in Kingly Street

    W1

  • I'm a fan! New to me, but that's my Yank ignorance. Hope to see more.

  • Great stuff, reminds me of rockin' nights down the Running Horse in Nottingham years ago.

    Cheers.

  • I don't care where he stole it from (and yes, we ALL steal it, man!), this guy can flat out blow. Good strong tone and swings like hell.

  • megagail

  • i love that place, only been once on a sunday night. makes me wanna move to london

  • I like how you do it.

  • Great playing with a real get down feeling. Steve's the real deal, and he's not "imitating" anybody. Enough from you armchair critics. Tha idea is to go out and play music for people, and these people are loving it.

  • Uh, oh. Just wait 'til Kim Wilson finds out his shtick was directly lifted.

    He's gonna be mad!!

  • Really mad !!

What about all those Kim Wilson covers of Little Walter tunes, lucky Walter isnt around to get mad!!

  • Besides needing a little restraint and too much repetition - a good LW and KW cross - the more I hear him, the more restraint he can use - more is sometimes just that - more...

  • Maybe in a recording environment, however this was a live gig in an intimate club and not intended to be put under a microscope.

The audience certainly weren't complaining !!

  • actually, i'd say this guy's improvising is 'free-er', ie more in

the Little Walter vein, than any of the players mentioned previously. this guy's his own artist, it's probably good he's from the UK, where he get more of the straight-up appreciation he deserves, great stage presence too.

  • Great Stuff! I love seeing this band. Have a look for some Big Joe Louis stuff, you'll probably find Steve playin' harp there too!

  • Killer harp work!!! Awesome tone,

    Thanks for sharing and...

    Jam On!!!

  • Rocker!

  • Yeah man!! I hear rod, but I also hear plenty of Bill Clarke in there too. Awesome stuff.

  • Great band, great tone, great playing. Thanks!

  • My apologies - I didn't see the extra tags. My original post has been deep sixed, so whatever.

  • Monster Tonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnne!

  • Great stuff, but the tags should be Rod and Piazza rather than Kim and Wilson, since he is more into Piazza's style of phrasing.

  • Rod and Piazza are in the tags, and they are merely tags to get the footage to the right audience. The actual tone and phrasing is that of Steve Weston

  • Well, there may be some Steve Weston in there, but I hear mostly Kim Wilson's phrasing and approach, with a few George Smith quotes thrown in. I think Weston is one of the best I've heard imitating Kim. That's a compliment, by the way, and since it's pretty obvious Kim is Weston's favorite harp player, I imagine he'd take it that way.

  • Definitely more William Clarke and Rod Piazza than Kim Wilson. (i.e. listen from around 1:50) This has more of that light swinging horn stuff than Wilson's tougher ballsy phrasing - lots of that classic use of the trill when descending the harp like on the turnaround - very Bill Clarke to me.

  • Brilliant stuff Steve, mor please Tim

  • Great to see a British band swinging like the Americans. Top stuff!

  • Now this is the kind of band I need, I think I will fire all my band members.

  • super duper!

  • What's a great music!!!
