There's been rumours for a while that a Shadow of the Colossus film has been in production. If that's the case, then this song must, and I repeat, MUST be in the film when Wander confronts Malus.
@MaverickHunterZero75 around 2009 reports came out that sony pictures was in talks with some people about a movie adaptation, the game's director told kotaku he was set to be involved with production but couldn't talk much about it. Hasn't been any news since then.
@325982668 Well, they successfully made a silent movie this year, so...
"Wander dismounts Agro and lets his feet sink into the blisteringly hot sand. He approaches the shrine before him, intricately made and serene. As he steps up to the alter, he feels the desert rumble, and a giant, beautiful sand dragon emerges from the sand and flies into the air. It hovers in the sky above him. Wander is dumbstruck by its beauty, how could he kill such a beautiful creature? Mono. For Mono he would."
@Asgard314 I think Phalanx (if that's the sand dragon you're talking about) should be saved for later, there's something powerful about how harmless Phalanx is, a brief repose from earth-shattering combat to reflect on that naggling feeling of guilt you've started to feel for killing Colossi.
@325982668 I know. XD I was just giving an example of one of the bigger cinematic moments that the movie would have. XD
You know, just have him dead set on massacring them for most of the movie, be guilty about them for a bit, then get pissed at a violent one, then when he hits there, he finally realizes that it might be wrong.
I could not even make my usual video game self-commentary during this fight. I mean, Agro's death made me cry out the most heartfelt "NO!" I've ever done with any video game, and then when I went to fight Malus, I could only stay silent, contemplating everything in the game that had happened. I also cried out "THIS IS FOR MY HORSE!!" while delivering the final blow to Malus. One of the few video games that ever made me emotional. I hope The Last Guardian delivers the same.
1.a group of warriors making one final charge at the enemy only to be shot dead one by one
2.a scene like when you get shot at after Malus possesses you except the person is standing in front of you and you wanna kill them but you cant reach them
I'm not sure if anyone noticed, but Wanderer's cape was all tattered, and he started limping (plus he was really dirty) in the final boss. Those effects and the rain made me think "This must be pretty serious."
If you pay close attention throughout the game you can watch his appearance slowly deteriorate. After every 3 or 4 colossi you defeat his hair will get darker, black lines will appear at his neck, and his attire will become ripped and bloodstained. Beating such colossal (pardon the pun) beings really does a number on him, in more ways than one.
My sister cried at the ending of this fight when Malus died!!! I didn't cry, but I was thinking at the time, " Why the f**k would Wander kill all these innocent Colossi just to save a girl?"
Finally got this game. OMG, I LOVE IT!!! Amazing music, bosses, and look. On the 15th colosuss now. Wish they had explaind how Wander (or whatever his name is) got the sword in the first place.
@Yuxqexaowq No. This all started because Wander egoistically wanted to revive his love... it's only after that because of him, children with horns were mistook for evil ( SPOILER : because they were descendents of Wander... who, by killing the colossi to save Mono, was taken over by the devil (with horns). But as a second chance, he was resurrected as a baby with horns, horns that he transmitted to his descendance (ICO), as a rememberance of his sins).
@MalaikaNina dormin wasn't actually evil, he wasn't actually the devil, either, he was god that was mistooken for evil because of a new religion, i looked it up on the wiki :P
@Yuxqexaowq I went to look up on what you said. You're right, Dormin was a divinity before he was exiled because of the new religion. But Dormin was also inspired by the king Nimrod (backwards), a king who, because he wanted to oppose God, led his land into a tyranny. It is possible that Dormin's (ancient term for Demon) reign was like this, which is also why he was disembodied and scattered. Then again, there are a lot of possible interpretations, this game is really something...
I don't wanna start an argument, but am i the only one who doesn't like Shadow of the Colossus? Everyone harps it as the best game ever made, but I never cared much for it. It just felt awkward, boring, and the colossi were near impossible to lose to. (Save for that catfish thing you kill by stabbing it's dong) Plus, the story was just... wow. And I thought DOOM had a vague plot and a crappy ending.
That's just my two bits, though. No need to take me serious.
@SputnikMcGilligan I kinda agree. I'm not too big a fan of SotC. I found the controls very clunky and I never really felt emotionally touched for some reason. But the music is magnificent.
@SputnikMcGilligan we like it because its different and it isnt boring. look at games like halo and shit. "yay...shoot shoot jump shoot.."
in shadow of the colossus, you have to plot what you have to do to even get to a vital point of it,then you have to try it. if it doesnt work, its back to the drawing bored (without getting killed)
I beat this boss on the first try, but I had to climb it three times. I couldn't find out how to finish it off. After emptying my bag of tricks, I tried desperately to cling on, until I finally remembered. The sword's light, the first thing you learn in the game. I stood on its arm and held it, and saw where I needed to go.
Most epic boss battle I ever had since I can remember.
Malus: Huh? *wander climbing on his hand* EW WHAT IS THIS LITTLE THING?!?! IT'S ALL PINK AND FLESHY!!! *Scrapes his hand repeatedly across the ground* Ew...now it's an ugly reddish smudge*Blasts fireballs repeatedly at the smudge, obliterating it* Nasty little thing...
When will another game like Shadow of the Colossus come out. The game was a masterpiece, and still is one of the most memorable games ever made. It's a treasure...seriously. Games suck now.
While fighting all the other colossi I felt horribly guilty when they died. Especially when Celosia stumbled to its death. When I fought Malus, I was enraged because Agro had died. But, when I actually killed it, I felt as if I had upset the balance of the world. This game really proved to be very emotional as well as fun... Fuck I love this shit.

I finally beat this game mere days before heading to college! I have to say something Mr Autarch of Flame. Thank you for telling me about this beautiful game! I loved it. I showed it to a friend and he was awestruck at the first colossus. In fact he and I played it together and we enjoyed it a lot. Once again Thank you for showing me this game!
I love all the music in this game I remember playing it along time ago(lol yeah "along time ago") and this music was truly something that touched me through the game it made you feel remorse for the collosus for they where just peaceful giants wandering the lost lands and you killed them for your love only to be betrayed with their power
Yeah I especially had that with the 13th Colossus, who didn't even try to attack you. "Ah, time for some fresh air! Hey, why am I losing height? Oh hey little guy, how are you doing? Wanna hitch a ride huh? Where do you wanna go?" *STAB* "OUCH, WHAT THE FUCK, MAN?!"
I like it how when you're on his hand, he seems more curious than anything else, he's like "the fuck is this thing? How'd you get up here little guy- OH SHIT AAAARGH MY HEAD!"
@jibber102 lol i love how sometime you time the rolls but you still get hit. i rolled once and right before i got to the hole he hit me and i landed right in the hole lol
@jibber102 I feel your pain. i got shot up..was in the trench part of the area, AND GOT ZAPPED AGAIN, maan, once i got hold of his hand, I NEVER LET GO!!!!
Sadly, I wasn't able to enjoy this boss as much as I wanted to, as it took me over 15 tries to jump from Malus' hand to his neck. It was one of the most frustrating things I have ever faced in a video game.
@Exarian That is an amazing question. I think that is what makes this game so amazing. You're left pondering this very question. In addition to that, is Mono worth the lives of 16 colossi, plus a lifelong companion? Who knows.
Now here is a boss theme I can believe. While most boss music in video games tend towards fast-paced rock music or overly-grand choirs, this theme tends more towards the melancholy, making the player feel like the task before them is impossible to achieve. A fitting piece to once of the hardest bosses I've ever encountered.
Did Wander ever stop and say "Wait, is Mono really worth this crap, I have killed 15 of these things and I have suffered every bit of insanity that this place has to offer, my hair has turned purpleish black, my clothes are really dirty and now my horse is probably dead, thanks alot Mono! I better get some after I do this!"
@QuartrGuy You MUST get this game. I just finished it a few days ago, and I...was blown away. The rest of the soundtrack is great, especially the "Sunlit Earth". So relaxing and beautiful.
Y'know, it was you and Joker's top 10's that got me to play this game 'cause I was tired hearing about it. Then I heard it was available for the Wii...surprise it wasn't, it was for the PS2. AND........I can probably see why you keep putting this game on those lists.
@1liquid77 its actually Dormin's fault. He tricked Wander into killing the colossi, then fooled him. If Dormin hadn't tricked wander, everything would have been ok.
@Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude2 This is not Dormin's fault. He warned Wander since the beginning that the price would be high. I personally thing that Wander was expecting this kind of thing to happen. I myself was expecting something like this :/.
the funny thing is... you feel angry and want revenge for the death of Agro when fighting this colossus... However if you think about it, Malus had nothing to do with it... it's completely Wander's fault, everything and all the shenanigans that happen at the end, it's all Wander's fault. i love this game XD
@1iquid777 I thought the same thing first time I played. I was on a wrecking crew up until colossus 4 when I finally thought like....what am I doing? I'm destroying innocent beings that are peaceful just to save one girl? And then I was tempted almost to quit the game because I didn't want to kill anymore of them. I ended up smiting each one only to find myself enraged again at Agro's demise...but then the moment I struck the killing blow in Malus I realized it wasn't him. It was me.
@1iquid777 Although I cannot say that the way Dorim rewards Wander is Wander's fault though. Dorim is a deceitful demon who tricked Wander. A horrible entity.
@1iquid777 I was actuallu pretty chill when I fought this boss. In my mind I was more focused on completing the last task. I guess this is what makes the game really good. each players' experience is totally different. after argo died, I guess everyone died inside. even though it didn't talk, that horse was a valuable companion who risk its life to fulfill your task.
Jeepers, the intro just sends shivers up my spine, absolutely powerful shit to say the least, and extremely befitting of the final battle. This game easily has some of the best music to grace a video game to date.
There's been rumours for a while that a Shadow of the Colossus film has been in production. If that's the case, then this song must, and I repeat, MUST be in the film when Wander confronts Malus.

@Tyiedren No, I didn't regret killing Dirge 0,o

I like it how when you're on his hand, he seems more curious than anything else, he's like "the fuck is this thing? How'd you get up here little guy- OH SHIT AAAARGH MY HEAD!"

@MrGhostly12321 So somehow, the curiostiy core from portal survived the flames, traveled back in time and implanted himself in Malus?

Wander and Agro disliked this.
MrPwner911 6 months ago
Sadly, I wasn't able to enjoy this boss as much as I wanted to, as it took me over 15 tries to jump from Malus' hand to his neck. It was one of the most frustrating things I have ever faced in a video game.

Perfect. A good game makes you think about what you've done once you beat it...

i feel like i'm standing in front of the colossi, and feel respect, fear and humiliation over him. it's so beautiful

I mean, what if that happened in Sonic Generations with Classic Sonic as well???

Aww man.
At least give it a chance
What if Sonic was ACTUALLY about to die after getting beat down to the ground???

i know this is a wierd thing to say, but read the description when listening to this, it's so well written it sent shivers down my spine.
mkocja5a 7 months ago
But one question remains: was wander bringing mono back for her, or was he doing it because he was avoiding grief?
Was he selfless or selfish?
Exarian 7 months ago
@Exarian That is an amazing question. I think that is what makes this game so amazing. You're left pondering this very question. In addition to that, is Mono worth the lives of 16 colossi, plus a lifelong companion? Who knows.
Dreadlord67 7 months ago
Imagine if this song was remixed in a SONIC game!
This theme + Super Sonic + Huge Monster Trying to Destroy Mankind = Most Epic Sonic Final Boss Ever
Just don't make the boss easy like Perfect Chaos.
wkmeads1 7 months ago
@wkmeads1 is most close to a hero donwed in the ground
think " what i can do? i cant stand even to protect the persons i care"
soo he begin to be consumed to a darkness/evil personality saying
"hah.. you're weak because you care soo much that people . if you fight with the itencion to kill who is manking this, you will win"
and the heor rises but with a evil look and a darkness aura around him
KiraODeus 7 months ago
@wkmeads1 this song just wouldn't work in a sonic game.
mkocja5a 7 months ago
this boss makes you wonder"Is doing all this worth it,will Mono come back back to life, can Dormin be trusted, was losing Agro worth it all?"
Upsilon927 7 months ago
0:58 EPIC !!!!
MrAGNUS1 7 months ago
Now here is a boss theme I can believe. While most boss music in video games tend towards fast-paced rock music or overly-grand choirs, this theme tends more towards the melancholy, making the player feel like the task before them is impossible to achieve. A fitting piece to once of the hardest bosses I've ever encountered.
TheJboy88 7 months ago
This game sounds depressing, but this boss looks/sounds epic.
PhazonOmega 7 months ago
Did Wander ever stop and say "Wait, is Mono really worth this crap, I have killed 15 of these things and I have suffered every bit of insanity that this place has to offer, my hair has turned purpleish black, my clothes are really dirty and now my horse is probably dead, thanks alot Mono! I better get some after I do this!"
silvertheowdude 7 months ago
@TheSuperMarioMaster1 you didn't think that when you fought phalanx???
SuperPandaWarrior 7 months ago
Yeah...in the fortress? It IS the fortress.
Seriously, I need to play this game. And this music is incredible. It's so much more sombre than I've come to expect from a final boss fight.

He is standing tall as he sees what is happening out there on the land around him & watching over the rest of the colossi
ar4shihiro 8 months ago
@1liquid77 its actually Dormin's fault. He tricked Wander into killing the colossi, then fooled him. If Dormin hadn't tricked wander, everything would have been ok.
Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude2 8 months ago
@Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude2 This is not Dormin's fault. He warned Wander since the beginning that the price would be high. I personally thing that Wander was expecting this kind of thing to happen. I myself was expecting something like this :/.
MalaikaNina 1 month ago
This comment exploded due to the epicness of this music.

RedMegaXIII 9 months ago
the funny thing is... you feel angry and want revenge for the death of Agro when fighting this colossus... However if you think about it, Malus had nothing to do with it... it's completely Wander's fault, everything and all the shenanigans that happen at the end, it's all Wander's fault. i love this game XD
1iquid777 9 months ago 57
@1iquid777 his mistake of trust and selfishness
yup all wander's fault
MorganOira 7 months ago
@1iquid777 I thought the same thing first time I played. I was on a wrecking crew up until colossus 4 when I finally thought like....what am I doing? I'm destroying innocent beings that are peaceful just to save one girl? And then I was tempted almost to quit the game because I didn't want to kill anymore of them. I ended up smiting each one only to find myself enraged again at Agro's demise...but then the moment I struck the killing blow in Malus I realized it wasn't him. It was me.
Dreadlord67 7 months ago
@1iquid777 Although I cannot say that the way Dorim rewards Wander is Wander's fault though. Dorim is a deceitful demon who tricked Wander. A horrible entity.
Dreadlord67 7 months ago
@1iquid777 I was actuallu pretty chill when I fought this boss. In my mind I was more focused on completing the last task. I guess this is what makes the game really good. each players' experience is totally different. after argo died, I guess everyone died inside. even though it didn't talk, that horse was a valuable companion who risk its life to fulfill your task.
