BurgerTime is one of my all-time favorite games. I wish they had made different versions of it for all the consoles over the years. I know they finally have an updated version of BurgerTime, but I no longer own a TV.
actually the cook is the bad guy. he chopped, sliced and burned all their friends to a crisp so they must kill him before he completes his tower of terror also known as the hamburger! lol
The remarkable thing is that 1980s console programmers generally had very little help from the Arcade manufacturers. They pretty much had to figure out how to port games from scratch and work against alot of tough constraints. Another sign of the sheer level of quality control on the core set of ColecoVision games.
@coolasshole23 Colecovision was higher resolution, and supported more sprites and colors. However, it also came out after the Intellivision. There was an Intellivision 2 that was designed to compete more closely with the CV.
As you all know, you aren't actually killed by the food, but you are raped by it. Watch the animation of the chef while he so-called dies.
You can withstand 4 rapes until you eventually die. If you make more burgers and kill the molesting food you might earn enough credit to withstand more rapes.
This version looks really good! I've been playing the NES version a lot and that's fun, but really tough! I should give this one a try as well, since I actually own it too.
I remember the arcade version.....this was just as good. The only problem is that the painful Colecovision controller limited the amount of time you could play before icing your blister. The M-Network version for the Atari was not as good, but could be played for longer periods of time.
The Colecovision will always be the best system, imo. It holds the great memories for me, and there is something about it, the graphics and gameplay, and especially the sounds. It all comes together and makes it so addicting. I've have many systems after this, and if I had to choose one, it's Colecovision. Sometimes while I'm playing online on my PS2 (I like Socom Combined Assault) I'll be daydreaming about my Colecovision. So I'll trun it off and play it instead.
Judging solely by YouTube videos, the burger components in the arcade version look a little more cartoonish. The Colecovision burger components have a nice realistic (by 1984 standards) texture to them. I dare say that the Colecovision version has superior graphics to the original.
@stelth90 This was stunning CGI in 1983. Compared to the Atari, this was nirvana. I still remember my 12th birthday, when I received a Colecovision console. I was in tween heaven.
I never played this much but had friends who played the arcade version alot and this looks pretty damn close. I did get into playing it later on NES and that version wasn't a cool looking as this.
I am still in awe of the Colecovision and the graphics it had for its time. It's just a shame the crash didn't come too far after this was released way back in 1982.
Either way, I still loved playing this thing until the early 90s, thanks for the review and a trip down memory lane.
There were two versions of Burger Time for the Colecovision: One by Mattel and one by DataSoft. I don't remember which was the better of the two, but there were obvious differences.
The ColecoVision port is the best port of the arcade original, graphically and sound wise it's damn near identical. Sadly the Atari 2600 version is horrible, and graphical glitches everywhere on that port. The Intellivision port is even better than the Atari 2600 version.
ColecoVision; graphically, audibly, and over all hardware-wise, is an amazing system and was definately ahead of it's time!
I have to mute this game to play it. I like the little tune but it's way, way too short to be endlessly repeated like that. It's absolutely headache-inducing. If the theme music was longer, this game would be much higher-rated in my book. I love it except for that one flaw, but unfortunately I consider it a very major flaw.
I always thought the NES version of Burgertime was in my opinion the best of them all. I also love the Intellivision version too. The other day I played the TI version and was very amused.
Hehe...my best friend holds the world record on this game on the arcade version...Bryan Wagner. Last time he set the record, I spend the night with him in a mall arcade in Reading, PA. while he beat his own record...
I can tell you from playing this game in the 1980's that the audio is identical. The Colecovision controllers are a bit clunky to work with but at least they went in eight directions unlike the Atari that only go's in four.
@SUNHOTSTUDIOS6 Have you ever heard of the Colecovision expansion module that allows you to play Atari cartridges? Give me a shout on Xbox live. PetePeps is my screen name.

They did not throw crap on the shelves? What about Donke ykong only 3 boards that went in the same order, Dig Dug different the the arcade version.
Colecovision had sluggish controller response, I know because I have one.
Colrcovision was just a tweeked Atari, it still had that annoying flicker that Atari was plagued with. Q*Bert on Intellivision was better then the colecovision version because the graphics were just as good and Q*Bert actually made a unique sound when he would get hit.
I recently brought a Colecovision, just to play this game. It was all Mark's review fault!! This version of Burgertime is fantastic. Now I am collecting more Colecovision games.
Yet another classic, Data East also programmed a PC conversion and although it's only a CGA with PC speaker sound the gameplay is identical to the Colecovison's.
Pity the Coleco didn't last in the long run, seemed like a really cool system.
I'm really impressed by the ColecoVision. I'm seriously considering getting one. Why not, I bought a Atari 7800 because of the CGR. I never realized how faithful they translated the old arcade games. Those graphics are mad good.
Speaking of Colecovison, if you search on youtube "Pac Man Colecovision" you will find a video of a prototype of Pac Man for the Colecovision by AtariSoft.
That proto really shows what the Colecovision could do in terms of graphics and arcade fidelity.

Thanks for the burgertime review. I used to play this on the coleco. Coleco was the bomb!! My neighbor had it. I had the crummy 2600, with the crappy games :(
Looks like a very good arcade classic, shame that I've never heard of this game before this review. But I guess it's never too late to start playing a classic.
A Colecovision was my first video game system (with the Atari 2600 converter, what a great combination!). Colecovision arcade games all looked very similar to the arcade versions. The gameplay was nearly exactly the same. All hail the Colecovision!
The intellivision version, Diner, is actually considered a "sequal" rather than a remake of the arcade game. It was one of my top five favorite games when I was a kid so I hope Mark checks it out as well.
I had never actually heard of the Burger Time port for Intellivision.. this seems a bit worse than not having heard of Diner. If only there had been an Intellivision Power magazine for me to read to learn these things.
I used to like this in the arcade, and the Coleco version looks almost perfect.

I am so impressed by these ColecoVison graphics. It's such a shame the system didn't sell all that well.

There is 2 BurgerTime games for the ColecoVison. This one is, in my opinion, the best of them... and fortunately, it's also the most common one.

is the intellivision version next? because that's the first game i ever played and i wanna see it again ^^

The intellivision version, Diner, is actually considered a "sequal" rather than a remake of the arcade game. It was one of my top five favorite games when I was a kid so I hope Mark checks it out as well.

I'm taking about the genuine Burger Time port for the intellivision.
I have never heard of Diner...shame on me...
Wasn't there a 16 bit Burger Time sequel on the Snes?
Anyway I hope Mark will get to those.

I had never actually heard of the Burger Time port for Intellivision.. this seems a bit worse than not having heard of Diner. If only there had been an Intellivision Power magazine for me to read to learn these things.

I just scrolled down the comments...Mark doen't seem to have the intellivision =(

If you like this game, check out the NES version, I'd say it's the best home port.

This game is so much fun on the NES. That port is the only version I have played. Great review as always.
