this was a joke becuase the previous season shaq called out popovich becacuse they were using the "hack a shaq" method while the suns were already up big, hoping shaq would miss. shaq took offense and called out the whole team on a radio station. so this is pop's way of getting shaq back

I'll explain it for ya pimpin'. Shaq is a bad free throw shooter as you know. In the playoffs, Shaq has faced many teams that foul him on purpose. They rather have Shaq earn 2 points on the foul line than rather a dunk. Gregg Popovich loves using the Hack-a-Shaq. That's how the Spurs won games sometimes. You either take out Shaq or leave him in to shoot free throws. Shaq earlier criticized Popovich for the strategy. So, Popovich fouled him in the first play of the game for a joke. :-)
