  • Was it relatively easy to train the bloodhound to track? I'm looking for a good breed to use to track wounded deer, and was wondering how they are to handle. Also, do you use her as a track dog only, or is she a family dog?

  • time to start working on your cardio..

  • @tehmiscbrah Your Right, but gmme a break, I'm at 8000 feet, there aint no air!

A deers nose is just as good!!!

I have a basset, incredible noses.

  • Way to go Bonnie again! Love the way she trails right by him and since she's using her nose and the scent...she doesn't stop until her nose brings her to him~the mark of a true mantrailer!

  • Very cool!!! I have two bloodhounds. One i dont think could track to save his life but the other is a puppy and she uses her nose alot more so she might be trainable.

  • -Continued- The dog does a great job, and I know from experience there is almost NOTHING you can do to get a good hound off the trail when properly handled! It would be interesting to see the dog work with a trail made by someone TRYING to evade it ! I know creeks do NOT work(I had people try it during training, both crossing it, AND running in it for a distance!), your scent is still deposited on the banks and can be tracked for LONG periods of time due to the moisture!

  • Having trained 2 Bloodhounds myself I can say that the smoke scent only adds another scent to the trail, it does NOT eliminate the human scent, it is still there, and a good dog will still key in on the human scent! Also there is the smell of broken vegetation, and disturbed soil where your boots hit, PLUS the dog KNOWS this boys scent!
