As a Paramedic in the state of North Carolina, the cop was above and beyond the wrong person here. I'm not saying this because I work in EMS, I'm saying this because of personal experience. Your personal safety and the safety of your patient is your utmost priority as an EMS provider. What the Cop did not only didn't make sense, but would alarm me as a Paramedic that this individual was hostile. I'm not picking on cops, because they are my brother on scene. I think this guy is just exceptional.

If you look at the whole video from start to finish the cop did have the big bad cop attitude but the black paramedic should of stayed in the truck and let the driver(white paramedic) talk to the cop. In the whole video it shows the black paramedic jumping out the back of the ambulance and walking kinda fast toward the cop. It all could of been avoided if he stayed in the ambulance. That cop still is a ass hole.
even if the cop did have a legal right to stop and detain them, his behavior was so off the chart horrible, that no one should be expected to believe he is a real cop and go into defensive mode. I've been an EMT for 14 years. The medic in the back was wrong. This was not an emergency (no lights/sirens). There was no reason to get in the way of the trooper. If he had simply done his job and continued patient care the trooper would probably have done his job and then let them go. But the medic had to assert his dominance over the scene ("I'm the paramedic and I'm in charge of this ambulance.") when it had nothing to do with him or his job. Don't blame the cops for our behavior.
@pfd28 I agree to an extent. I'm a firefighter/ EMT-B. I'm not a paramedic. But I ride with one two days a week. I have the "pleasure" of interacting with Illinois State Police on a fairly regular basis from wrecks on I-57. When I pull up in the body hauler (ambulance) they are usually relatively nice. But when I pull up in the Big Red Truck as a FF, they are usually jerks. Firefighters have traffic authority in Illinois on ANY scene we are tone to. I've had to re-stage for the jerks before.
@pfd28 Im EMT Firefighter 15 years and if you heard the dash came video he came out and said if you want to arrest me do it at the hospital....So you should know also in some conditions it would stress a patient more to run hot,,,, so the medic has the right to run cold....The cop wanted to see who had the bigger badge...I have had local cops removed from scene for that reason and I guess your a private ambulance driver to not see how the fire and police have these issues....

I just don't understand those of you complaining about the EMT. If that was me and the ambulance was pulled over, i would be very happy to know that the person trying to keep me alive was willing to do what White did in order to get the vehicle moving again. As former LEO I allways made it a point to help our ambulance crews. Why piss a guy off that may be fighting to save your life?Seems a no brainer, but I dont think this is just a one trooper problem Ive noticed this form of behavior from other OHP officers.I'd say they have some training issues.Then again Oklahoma is Indian territory & presents challenges that you wont find in other states.Protect & Serve needs some help in this country.
first off as an emt or paramedic, that individual has a duty to act. the senior person is in charge and must intervene on behalf of the patient and his driver. the paramedic did this professionally. this cop and his anger is not reason to obstruct the care of a patient. has the patient died the cop would have been in a word of crap. he needs to be relieved of his duties and do security.

It is a proven fact that when an emergency vehicle is at a high rate of speed, the loudness or effectiveness of a siren is dramatically reduced. That combined with t he cab of an ambulance can sometimes be quite loud, and sometimes... another ambulance might be talking on the radio with their sirens on going to a call...

Both this news channel and the paramedic are outright lying. The paramedic claims (at 1:10) they passed police cruiser, when instead police cruiser passed them. Their refusal to yield during that is what started this incident. The news channel then claims (at 1:59) the police cruiser did not have a siren on, when full video released by police clearly shows otherwise. Ultimately, the ambulance was not on a call, so should have pulled over instead of impeding officer.
Get yours straight, buddy. The police dashcam video (elsewhere on this site) clearly shows the officer approaching with both lights and siren, the police cruiser following the ambulance for some time (trying to pass), the car in front of the ambulance pulling over, the ambulance never pulling over, the police cruiser finally passing, and the events afterwards.
That's right. This isn't Iraq, which is why we attempt to discover the truth before simply accepting propaganda (like heavily edited videos). Again, the ambulance was not on a call, so should have pulled over when the officer approached with both lights and siren (as seen in full video). That's the law in every state. Ambulance personnel knew they were wrong, but compounded that anyway by arguing and fighting with the officer.

Saw the video. The dash cam showed the sireen was on. You could hear it. However to me it appeared the trooper gained on the ambulance in a rapid speed, and may have, what we call, out run his sireen. That speed may have also contributed to the driver not seeing the police cruiser until later. Now a question. If the ambulance was running hot... lights and sireen, then who by Oklahoma law, has the right of way? Both are emergency vehicles.
I saw parts of the dash cam and what disturbed me was the ambulance was running emergency itself and the troop placed the patient care in jeopardy. As well as the Paramedic leaving the back of the ambulance is abandonment. I admit I would have opened the back door and made some comments myself but you "CAN'T" leave a patient alone like that. Still, after seeing the video. I feel the officer totally wrong in his actions.

That movie "Crash" takes these type situations and goes into the backstory that leads to what seems like irrational behavior when you look at the isolated incident. It's just out of control power tripping and that's it. There's nothing strange about it when you consider the environment that these guys are now surrounded with and trained under (especially the new federal militarization of local law enforcement), it's a systemic problem that requires a systemic solution and it must come from the top, which means you fire the top managers and you replace them with people who have a true appreciation for what it means to be officers of the PEACE.

@CaptAdams35 Dashcam video showed an Oklahoma Trooper completely out of control.. The Ambulance was overtaking a car and the trooper failed to take that into consideration.. Road Rage Trooper was then more worried about his own "ownership of the road" than he was the well being of the ambulance patient.

The car that was pulling over in front of the ambulance was pulling over for the trooper (the ambulance had no lights or sirens on....), the EMT driver improperly passed, as well as failed to yield to an emergency vehicle in response to code. Sorry, he was wrong and could have been dead wrong had he hit the back of the yielding vehicle ahead of him. He was reckless and show no regard for their safety, his patient, or the trooper.

You haven't followed this story very closely have you? The medic was arrested a month later on a routine traffic stop for speeding and no seatbelt when he challenged the officer YET again. He's a complete idiot and anyone who ignores this is no better in my opinion. He's lucky the family didn't sue him for patient abandonment on the first incident where he tried starting the fight with the trooper. That's a felony in this state (Oklahoma)

I've been an EMT for 14 years. The medic in the back was wrong. This was not an emergency (no lights/sirens). There was no reason to get in the way of the trooper. If he had simply done his job and continued patient care the trooper would probably have done his job and then let them go. But the medic had to assert his dominance over the scene ("I'm the paramedic and I'm in charge of this ambulance.") when it had nothing to do with him or his job. Don't blame the cops for our behavior.

@pfd28 I agree to an extent. I'm a firefighter/ EMT-B. I'm not a paramedic. But I ride with one two days a week. I have the "pleasure" of interacting with Illinois State Police on a fairly regular basis from wrecks on I-57. When I pull up in the body hauler (ambulance) they are usually relatively nice. But when I pull up in the Big Red Truck as a FF, they are usually jerks. Firefighters have traffic authority in Illinois on ANY scene we are tone to. I've had to re-stage for the jerks before.

@pfd28 Im EMT Firefighter 15 years and if you heard the dash came video he came out and said if you want to arrest me do it at the hospital....So you should know also in some conditions it would stress a patient more to run hot,,,, so the medic has the right to run cold....The cop wanted to see who had the bigger badge...I have had local cops removed from scene for that reason and I guess your a private ambulance driver to not see how the fire and police have these issues....

I just don't understand those of you complaining about the EMT. If that was me and the ambulance was pulled over, i would be very happy to know that the person trying to keep me alive was willing to do what White did in order to get the vehicle moving again. I guess many ppl call this "abandonment" but what happened if they just listened to the cop and perhaps sat there another 20 minutes? I would prefer my EMT "abandon" me for a few mins if it meant getting my butt to the hospital faster!

As former LEO I allways made it a point to help our ambulance crews. Why piss a guy off that may be fighting to save your life?Seems a no brainer, but I dont think this is just a one trooper problem Ive noticed this form of behavior from other OHP officers.I'd say they have some training issues.Then again Oklahoma is Indian territory & presents challenges that you wont find in other states.Protect & Serve needs some help in this country.

first off as an emt or paramedic, that individual has a duty to act. the senior person is in charge and must intervene on behalf of the patient and his driver. the paramedic did this professionally. this cop and his anger is not reason to obstruct the care of a patient. has the patient died the cop would have been in a word of crap. he needs to be relieved of his duties and do security.

It is a proven fact that when an emergency vehicle is at a high rate of speed, the loudness or effectiveness of a siren is dramatically reduced. That combined with t he cab of an ambulance can sometimes be quite loud, and sometimes... another ambulance might be talking on the radio with their sirens on going to a call...
I believe his story that he didn't hear the cruiser.

Both this news channel and the paramedic are outright lying. The paramedic claims (at 1:10) they passed police cruiser, when instead police cruiser passed them. Their refusal to yield during that is what started this incident. The news channel then claims (at 1:59) the police cruiser did not have a siren on, when full video released by police clearly shows otherwise. Ultimately, the ambulance was not on a call, so should have pulled over instead of impeding officer.

The police dashcam video (elsewhere on this site) clearly shows the officer approaching with both lights and siren, the police cruiser following the ambulance for some time (trying to pass), the car in front of the ambulance pulling over, the ambulance never pulling over, the police cruiser finally passing, and the events afterwards.

That's right. This isn't Iraq, which is why we attempt to discover the truth before simply accepting propaganda (like heavily edited videos). Again, the ambulance was not on a call, so should have pulled over when the officer approached with both lights and siren (as seen in full video). That's the law in every state. Ambulance personnel knew they were wrong, but compounded that anyway by arguing and fighting with the officer.

Saw the video. The dash cam showed the sireen was on. You could hear it. However to me it appeared the trooper gained on the ambulance in a rapid speed, and may have, what we call, out run his sireen. That speed may have also contributed to the driver not seeing the police cruiser until later. Now a question. If the ambulance was running hot... lights and sireen, then who by Oklahoma law, has the right of way? Both are emergency vehicles.

I saw parts of the dash cam and what disturbed me was the ambulance was running emergency itself and the troop placed the patient care in jeopardy. As well as the Paramedic leaving the back of the ambulance is abandonment. I admit I would have opened the back door and made some comments myself but you "CAN'T" leave a patient alone like that. Still, after seeing the video. I feel the officer totally wrong in his actions.

That movie "Crash" takes these type situations and goes into the backstory that leads to what seems like irrational behavior when you look at the isolated incident. we may never know the full story here. After 20 plus years in EMS i feel i can make a few comments here. 1. the ambulance was not going all that fast, but that does not necessarily reflect the patient's condition. some places do not allow lights and sirens for transport for non-life threatening conditions. 2. if the dash cam vid i saw reflects the length of delay, it was marginal at best. i have seen MA driver's take longer 3. the Trooper was flying so reaction time of the other operator

@CaptAdams35 Dashcam video showed an Oklahoma Trooper completely out of control.. The Ambulance was overtaking a car and the trooper failed to take that into consideration.. Road Rage Trooper was then more worried about his own "ownership of the road" than he was the well being of the ambulance patient.
The Trooper is obviously emotionally unstable and unable to prioritize citizen health over being slowed down a few seconds by an EMT. Fire the Unstable Looser.

Thanks for pointing that out, I missed it. The car that was pulling over in front of the ambulance was pulling over for the trooper (the ambulance had no lights or sirens on....), the EMT driver improperly passed, as well as failed to yield to an emergency vehicle in response to code. Sorry, he was wrong and could have been dead wrong had he hit the back of the yielding vehicle ahead of him. He was reckless and show no regard for their safety, his patient, or the trooper.

People like this shouldn't be recruited into such profession in the first place. The recruiting processed outta be more strict. In addition to that i also suggested a thorough psychology screening should be done to each and every candidates that are in the processed of joining the force. There's too many people like that on in civilian uniforms. We don't need people like that protecting us now do we?

You haven't followed this story very closely have you? The medic was arrested a month later on a routine traffic stop for speeding and no seatbelt when he challenged the officer YET again. He's a complete idiot and anyone who ignores this is no better in my opinion. He's lucky the family didn't sue him for patient abandonment on the first incident where he tried starting the fight with the trooper. That's a felony in this state (Oklahoma)

Intimidation? Did you not see the medic leave his patient to intimidate the trooper into not doing his job? Sorry Hung, but you're just as full of crap as that hot headed roid raging medic. When people start paying attention to facts and get their heads out of their butts, they'll see what happened here could have been easily avoided had the medic remained with his patient and let the trooper talk to the driver that failed to yield and possibly shot him the rod (very unprofessional conduct)

If the bus is stopped, it IS his job to find out what is going on. Narrow minded fools like you are a part of the downfall in society. HAS ANYBODY ever seen a case where a cop assaulted somebody, like this, and had his fucking brains bashed in by a baseball bat and the person was let off because if was self defense? I think Id like to see that. That would make me feel warm and fuzzy. When a cop crosses "that line", he is just another asshole attacking somebody and if he gets his ass beat so bad he is retarded the rest of his life and cant wipe his own ass, he deserves it.

Nothing to do with race here, Just newbie cops that are having power trips.This angers me so much that I don't even want to talk about it. I highly respect police and CHP for what they do, however it is unfortunate that there are assholes like this that give law enforcement the bad name that it has recieved.

that patient has high-priority care and thats upheald in court of law. He denied proper and immediate patient care by delaying those EMTS.
