  • Played professional baseball for many years, and have done a lot of research on metal bats. Through my research, I have found them to be more dangerous than a wooden bat because a ball leaves a metal bat at a higher rate of speed then on a wooden bat. Kids don't have the coordination or reflexes to catch a ball at that rate of speed. Proper batting technique and sizing of the bat for a child can yield a better ball player than a metal bat ever will...

  • WTF ?

  • That was definitely a wood bat

  • press 7 for a fist pump

  • I thaught the bat was supposed to be aluminum that sounded like wood

  • epic face at 20 seconds :)

  • that was definetly a wooden bat not metal or composite, and as long as your in the right position after the pitch you should be able to make play on the ball.

  • @98GMClowrider trust me, with metal bats that is not always the case

  • @mothahen123 i am a pitcher as long as you are paying attention you should be able to make a play or at the very least dodge the ball. Its part of the game get over it..

  • @98GMClowrider my friend got hit in the head with a ball and put into an induced coma. i saw the video and he had zero time to react

  • @mothahen123 sorry to here about your friend. hope he's doing better...

  • @cotaman7 thanks alot and yes, he's doing much better now!

  • I never like using metal bats due to they get dents and don't hit right no more so wood bats are better and make a good cracking sound.

  • @ThekidsJackass1

The breaking of bats itself is very rare, a piece of the broken bat coming near you is even more rare, and even if it did manage to do all those things, it would still come very slow and be very easy to dodge. And if somebody were slow enough to get hit with a piece of bat depending where it hits it might not do any damage. Also there are wood bats with composite handles that do not break very easily, this is another alternative.

  • he should have caught that

  • metal doesnt break though a wooden stake in a leg would hurt

  • This could happen with metal bats also

  • Nice camera by the way but we use metal bats but that new rule chamge it has to meet the besr and blah blah blah i lile my demarini its half composite half metal but little leuge banned anything with composite

  • A pitcher should always keep his glove in front of him. Not only does it help with the target, but allows him a chance to protect him. The ones who have their gloves near the waist at the finish do not have enough time to react.

  • Even IF wood bats were more safe for the velocity of the ball hit back at the pitcher, the chances could be just the same as that of a wood bat shattering and the broken part head straight for the pitcher, which would hurt all the same, and a slight chance of possible impalement.

  • batters with wooden bats hit back to the pitcher as well.

  • @paintballgenie11

but with wooden bats the ball doesnt travel as fast therefore it is more safe

  • @flsfchronicle your wrong

did you ever hear of BESR

  • @flsfchronicle not true the ball come off a metal bat at 97 and a wood bat it comes off at 96 you can get a ball hit hard back at you regardless of the type of bat

  • @flsfchronicle either way u get & wen ur a pitcher they teach u how to be alert so if the pitcher gets hit its his fault 4 not catching it :D

  • @flsfchronicle but didnt it ever go through you head the fact that wooden bats can break and stab someone on the field?

  • @paintballgenie11 Happened to a guy on the Cubs last year. got a punctured lung and was out for the season

  • @UTubeAccount702 dang poor guy

  • Tht bat sounded wood, just sayin

  • @TheBFGK

    yah well your bunk

  • I've seen it happen from both types. I played ball @ Los Altos HS here in Cali back in 98. It can and will happen from both.

  • I hate to break it to you, but that same thing would have happened regardless of the type of bat used. Just because a handful of reaction-retarded kids get smoked in the face each year, it doesn't mean that the rules should be changed. The percentage of injuries is infinitesimal in comparison to the huge number of kids who remain injury-free. Kids will get hurt no matter what type of bat is used; get the fuck over it.

  • @sniper1515 but wooden bats reduces the kinds of injuries like the one of the MC pitcher Gunnar Sandberg. People will still get injured no matter what, but the switch to wooden bats will reduce this percentage slightly.

  • You guys don't even know the dude. I do! STFU people and get a life!

  • In our league were using metal because wood sucks for youth. grow a pair

  • @crazedgamer521 more like you need to grow a pair and use wood bats like a man instead of being a pussy and using metal bats. u chag

  • No disrespect, but what makes you think a woodbat hit wont hit you as well?

  • @bukakee1

the ball cannot be hit as fast as it can with a wooden bat. Therefore, it reduces the chance for injury like the one that happened to Gunnar on MC

  • @NotLongFilms <My friend is Alan Kunst's little brother and he is on my baseball team. We ware the "Got Wood?" T-Shits before every game.

  • @chekit45

    cool story

  • They'll never switch to wooden bats...its too expensive

  • @carolinabaccyspitter

    they already switched...

  • Comment removed

  • @neekhaiz its still all up in the air

  • @neekhaiz

they already switched to wooden bats....

  • @NotLongFilms they didnt already switch...I play baseball at my highschool and was just using a metal bat last week. in texas they are banning two piece bats in 2012

  • @neekhaiz

    dude

Im playing baseball right now. And we ARE using wooden bats.... they already switched in my league.....

  • @NotLongFilms what country are you from and you must play in a wood bat league. Regular high school baseball still uses metal bats, and all other leagues

  • @neekhaiz im in the bay area. We've always used metal bats, untill the incident with gunnar on MC which is located very close too MY school which DOES use metal bats! along with erryone else in MCALS

  • @neekhaiz I am from the U.S. in california. I am in a normal high school league. We switched to wooden bats because of the tragic incident that happened to the Marin Catholic High School pitcher Gunnar Sandberg. Look it up.

  • @kitlarson well we still use metal bats in texas, but we cant use BESR certified bats anymore we have to use the new BBCOR bats which are almost worse than wood bats

  • the only problem with this video is the crack is clearly from a wooden bat not a metal one.

  • sorry dude, but thats me on the mound there and it was a metal bat. We use metal in high school JV baseball, and they are thinking about switching to wooden tho.
