I love Tarja a lot- she is my favorite singer and no matter what she does I'll always support her <3 But NW is not dead- they continue existing with Anette. This is my fav song and this is what I want to hear from NW, but they moved on and they continued making amazing music. I am not tying to hurt sb with this comment but NW got over it and maybe you should do it, too. The fact that Anette is not a classically trained singer doesn't make her/NW bad :)

Well, Tarja was kicked out of the band, because the other members didn't think she took the music seriously - or at least, that's what I read on Wikipedia.
Tarja was really good in the band - true! But let's not forget, that even though she's not there anymore, the band still produces fantastic music sung mostly by Anette Olzon, who's also a really good singer. I think Anette has done a great job a the new lead singer, but please! No matter what! Never forget Tarja!

I am big fan of Tarja I bought her last solo album "What Lies Beneath" and it's really good, in next month I am going on her concert and I am full of emotions.

i will not stop to think that Tuomas was in love with Tarja and she with that new boyfriend and later husband made him jealous and so he kicked her off the band. Its really sad they both complemented each other musically and their essence cannot be achieved by Tuomas with Anette or Tarja's solo project they may make some good music apart but they achieved their greatness as musicians together and that cant be erased from peoples memories.

Actually, as we fans know, they ruled her out by that letter, i dont know if there was a departure speech between them before the letter.. It was about her personal behaviour to the band and band's future as i remember how and what it's content was..
What I like when I listen to those old Nightwish songs, is that you find in the comments the real old Nightwish fans. Those who know all their songs and which of them are the best. Those who love Tarja, and miss the old Nightwish. People telling the new singer is best, have often only listened to amaranth, and judged from there. Go back in time and feel those masterpieces making you shiver, because this, THIS, is what we used to call Nightwish.

@ElwoSoul In my opinion, Nightwish was reborn after 2005. The sound changed (somewhat) and the singer changed and they are still great. If you listened to them for so long, do not give up on them now.

This song, Two for Tragedy, is the most beautiful, emotional, and downright perfect song I have ever heard. It is definitely my favorite song by Nightwish ( that and "Whoever Brings The Night")

I suspect that it was just to painful for both of them to remain together. Trust me when I say I understand that kind of pain. You simply have to be apart if you can't truely be together. I imagine they were both saints and sinners in the end. But, if Tuomas loved her and could not have her, then he could not work with her. It's just too painful to torture yourself like that every day.

I know what you mean but i already think everybody knows it so you don't have to tell us. I also hate people come and like; Tarja is the Best, and on the other side then there's Anette is the best! I also thought the first time that i liked Tarja the best but Anette also knows how to sing if you listen to "Meadows of Heaven". The differences is just that Tarja knows how to sing Opera and i think it fits in Heavymetal. But i also think Anette got that Spark!
I think people should get over her split with Nw. She put out a great solo album and Nightwish put out a great album too (let's not forget that Marco has been promoted to a lead singer, alongside Anette, and is no longer just in the shadow of a female vocalist!). I'm definitely gonna continue to support both Nw and Tarja. Plus, you can tell that Tarja feels more at home singing songs like Our Great Divide than Wish I Had An Angel. They made great music together, but it's time to move on.
I've read all your comments - probably you're right, but I don't care what was the actual reason these two are not together any longer. The worst of all is, that they screwed up the true spirit of Nightwish - after all, TARJA was a frontwoman and the icon of this band, as well as Tuomas was the undisputed leader. Perhaps, they also screwed up their love & life, but for me (while I still believe in Nightwish's music) the greatest band of gothic / symphonic rock has been killed in action in 2005.
He admitted a depression in 2006, but it is my opinion the more he thought about it I believe it was eating him away, why else would you be depressed if you were young & in a very successful band? Everybody does things they regret, some not at quite this level of a public spectacle. He may have had a love for her, Marcelo hinted at that in interviews, or it may have just been some type of control thing, who knows, bands are fucking crazy & things happen especially with alcohol.
If they respected Tarja they didn't have to like Marcelo, they needed to respect this is the man she loved & made her happy, Marcelo was probably protecting her (what a husband is supposed to do). When you have issues with your friend's spouse that is not good & hurts your friend greatly. If anybody had issues with my girlfriend they have issues with me. Anyways they didn't respect her as a human being. I'm sure they didn't like an outsider coming in their world, Tuomas cudn't accept change
Tuomas & Tarja may have had some intimacy & fondness but without commitment, that way they cud enjoy other delights on the road! Sometimes ppl are afraid to show their true emotions bcus they may push the other away,
the road can get lonely, which Tarja clearly was & like most wanted a real relationship, she may have even taunted Tuomas with Marcelo & Tuomas acted like it didn't bother him, but inside was raging, he probably thought he had her then it led to madness & extreme acts LOL!!!!!
I saw them on the Once tour up the street from me, I waited several years to see them & even debated flying to Europe to see them. On stage I noticed Marco mocking Tarja for all the attention she was getting, he even pulled out his lighter & lit a flame like the crowd to her, when I read the letter on their site after Tarja's release, I remembered the bands behavior patterns on stage to her & started to see a clearer perspective, they were probably conspiring at that point.
If they wanted to release her they didn't have to try & demonize her. I read interviews with her explanations & they seemed rather legitimate & logical especially for a separate space so she can change her outfits etc. that was for maximum showmanship for the fans! She cud've came out in jeans & nobody wudv cared but she "performed" like an ultra professional. They made it a public humiliation for maximum profit & controversy at the expense of hurting the person responsible for their success
Bands get rid of ppl all the time, they don't have to humiliate someone, they can make it amicable. Usually they want to hide the dirt not bring private matters & disagreements to the public (like a family), Basically NW/Tuomas (since he is NW) wanted 'the world' behind them & against her, she must've been that powerful over them when they needed 'the world' involved for support, they were to weak alone & tried to profit from her pain & that is disgusting, I lost respect for them.
If they were really her "friends, comrades, team members" they wudv supported her marriage & cared for her happiness even if she was going to leave. For her to find love was a good thing & natural right & cudv been channeled into great music. But she mentioned leaving (firing them) so they tried to beat her in a race. Tuomas mentioned in an interview his depression that's bcus deep inside he knew what he did to her was wrong. The band only supported him bcus they didn't want to loose their job.
NW was the most successful band each member was involved in, since Tuomas was 'the founder' they figured she was replaceable & polarized with him but individuals are NOT easily replaced everybody has their own unique ability, talent, contribution. Changing an ingredient in a recipe can sometimes completely alter the formula, for better or for worse. My grandma said "you can't pull someones eye out then put it back in & expect it to work the same". Once the damage is done you can't turn it back
It's not "his band". He may have had a very heavy influence, but Tarja's voice made Nightwish international & truly loved. She alone, her voice separated Nightwish from all other power metal bands.

I kno their history, so what, It doesn't matter who started it, she defined it. Her voice was as important if not more important in their sound. When I first heard them it was her voice that made it unique. Nobody listened to them & thought "wow the keyboards are so great I'm hooked". Every Nightwish fan was captured by Tarja's voice & you kno it. & it is his fault, his ego & loss of control over her pushed him to get rid of her. He lost one of the best female vocalists on earth.
I've seen them with both vocalists live, Anette is not in the same league with Tarja there is no comparison the old songs that made them famous sounded like garbage with her singing. Anette is a good vocalist but she is no Tarja. It was the operatic style that took Nightwish to the top & defined them. I don't care if Tarja was as Tuomas described, she's a human being nobody is perfect, by him making it a public humiliation shows it was more than just what was right for the band, it was personal
What's funny is her band is just as good if not better than Nightwish. She can pull off all old Nightwish songs, Nightwish CANNOT pull off Nightwish (they might as well do ABBA). So Tarja came out on top & has more creative freedom now, also the way she handled the public humiliation showed more class maturity & what her character is really about. She gave 110% to that band & they didn't appreciate it, she got married & wanted a personal life & they held it against her, what fucking idiots.
Also bands cannot be lead by keyboard players properly, Vocalists & guitarists naturally get more attention as well as define the sound regardless who writes the tunes. For Tuomas to act like 'the leader' is very unnatural for a band situation, he was jealous & didn't want to accept how important her role was, his actions were a psychological sign of a man trying to be vindictive & cause pain on her, as well as a desperate act of one who lost control over someone. It's quite pathetic.

I'm just now getting over the fact that she is no longer with Nightwish but, I have to accept that Nightwish has a new singer now..and I will keep supporting them no matter what. Annette is no Tarja, nor do I want her to be. I think she sings well in her own style... For all you who miss Tarja, look on the bright side, she has an album out and is working on another; she hasn't given up on music yet. :]

I suspect that it was just to painful for both of them to remain together. Trust me when I say I understand that kind of pain. You simply have to be apart if you can't truely be together. I imagine they were both saints and sinners in the end. But, if Tuomas loved her and could not have her, then he could not work with her. It's just too painful to torture yourself like that every day.

@jolkin72 You shouldn't hate annete. She didn't do anything and she is actually a really good singer. She is definitely not an opera singer. Tuomas probably wanted a within temptation type sound this time around. I like annete personally...I think she is doing a good job.

@HellFire2034, He did find it very hard... but what Nightwish thought she had become was unacceplable to them.( I think) But thats why Nightwish is such a bittersweet band. Such beautiful music. Tuomas' songs with Tarja's sound makes me almost not wanna listen to it any more because of the emotions it stirs up in me... like saying goodbye to an old friend... never to see them again...

I know what you mean but i already think everybody knows it so you don't have to tell us. I also hate people come and like; Tarja is the Best, and on the other side then there's Anette is the best! I also thought the first time that i liked Tarja the best but Anette also knows how to sing if you listen to "Meadows of Heaven". The differences is just that Tarja knows how to sing Opera and i think it fits in Heavymetal. But i also think Anette got that Spark!

I think people should get over her split with Nw. She put out a great solo album and Nightwish put out a great album too (let's not forget that Marco has been promoted to a lead singer, alongside Anette, and is no longer just in the shadow of a female vocalist!). I'm definitely gonna continue to support both Nw and Tarja. Plus, you can tell that Tarja feels more at home singing songs like Our Great Divide than Wish I Had An Angel. They made great music together, but it's time to move on.

Tarja is (well, was) the voice of Tuomas' heart. That's how I like to look at it. A beautiful tragedy. I believe this makes the music much more real.

I've read all your comments - probably you're right, but I don't care what was the actual reason these two are not together any longer. The worst of all is, that they screwed up the true spirit of Nightwish - after all, TARJA was a frontwoman and the icon of this band, as well as Tuomas was the undisputed leader. Perhaps, they also screwed up their love & life, but for me (while I still believe in Nightwish's music) the greatest band of gothic / symphonic rock has been killed in action in 2005.

He admitted a depression in 2006, but it is my opinion the more he thought about it I believe it was eating him away, why else would you be depressed if you were young & in a very successful band? Everybody does things they regret, some not at quite this level of a public spectacle. He may have had a love for her, Marcelo hinted at that in interviews, or it may have just been some type of control thing, who knows, bands are fucking crazy & things happen especially with alcohol.

If they respected Tarja they didn't have to like Marcelo, they needed to respect this is the man she loved & made her happy, Marcelo was probably protecting her (what a husband is supposed to do). When you have issues with your friend's spouse that is not good & hurts your friend greatly. If anybody had issues with my girlfriend they have issues with me. Anyways they didn't respect her as a human being. I'm sure they didn't like an outsider coming in their world, Tuomas cudn't accept change

Tuomas & Tarja may have had some intimacy & fondness but without commitment, that way they cud enjoy other delights on the road! Sometimes ppl are afraid to show their true emotions bcus they may push the other away,
the road can get lonely, which Tarja clearly was & like most wanted a real relationship, she may have even taunted Tuomas with Marcelo & Tuomas acted like it didn't bother him, but inside was raging, he probably thought he had her then it led to madness & extreme acts LOL!!!!!

I saw them on the Once tour up the street from me, I waited several years to see them & even debated flying to Europe to see them. On stage I noticed Marco mocking Tarja for all the attention she was getting, he even pulled out his lighter & lit a flame like the crowd to her, when I read the letter on their site after Tarja's release, I remembered the bands behavior patterns on stage to her & started to see a clearer perspective, they were probably conspiring at that point.

If they wanted to release her they didn't have to try & demonize her. I read interviews with her explanations & they seemed rather legitimate & logical especially for a separate space so she can change her outfits etc. that was for maximum showmanship for the fans! She cud've came out in jeans & nobody wudv cared but she "performed" like an ultra professional. They made it a public humiliation for maximum profit & controversy at the expense of hurting the person responsible for their success

Bands get rid of ppl all the time, they don't have to humiliate someone, they can make it amicable. Usually they want to hide the dirt not bring private matters & disagreements to the public (like a family), Basically NW/Tuomas (since he is NW) wanted 'the world' behind them & against her, she must've been that powerful over them when they needed 'the world' involved for support, they were to weak alone & tried to profit from her pain & that is disgusting, I lost respect for them.

If they were really her "friends, comrades, team members" they wudv supported her marriage & cared for her happiness even if she was going to leave. For her to find love was a good thing & natural right & cudv been channeled into great music. But she mentioned leaving (firing them) so they tried to beat her in a race. Tuomas mentioned in an interview his depression that's bcus deep inside he knew what he did to her was wrong. The band only supported him bcus they didn't want to loose their job.

NW was the most successful band each member was involved in, since Tuomas was 'the founder' they figured she was replaceable & polarized with him but individuals are NOT easily replaced everybody has their own unique ability, talent, contribution. Changing an ingredient in a recipe can sometimes completely alter the formula, for better or for worse. My grandma said "you can't pull someones eye out then put it back in & expect it to work the same". Once the damage is done you can't turn it back

It's not "his band". He may have had a very heavy influence, but Tarja's voice made Nightwish international & truly loved. She alone, her voice separated Nightwish from all other power metal bands.

I kno their history, so what, It doesn't matter who started it, she defined it. Her voice was as important if not more important in their sound. When I first heard them it was her voice that made it unique. Nobody listened to them & thought "wow the keyboards are so great I'm hooked". Every Nightwish fan was captured by Tarja's voice & you kno it. & it is his fault, his ego & loss of control over her pushed him to get rid of her. He lost one of the best female vocalists on earth.

I've seen them with both vocalists live, Anette is not in the same league with Tarja there is no comparison the old songs that made them famous sounded like garbage with her singing. Anette is a good vocalist but she is no Tarja. It was the operatic style that took Nightwish to the top & defined them. I don't care if Tarja was as Tuomas described, she's a human being nobody is perfect, by him making it a public humiliation shows it was more than just what was right for the band, it was personal

What's funny is her band is just as good if not better than Nightwish. She can pull off all old Nightwish songs, Nightwish CANNOT pull off Nightwish (they might as well do ABBA). So Tarja came out on top & has more creative freedom now, also the way she handled the public humiliation showed more class maturity & what her character is really about. She gave 110% to that band & they didn't appreciate it, she got married & wanted a personal life & they held it against her, what fucking idiots.

Also bands cannot be lead by keyboard players properly, Vocalists & guitarists naturally get more attention as well as define the sound regardless who writes the tunes. For Tuomas to act like 'the leader' is very unnatural for a band situation, he was jealous & didn't want to accept how important her role was, his actions were a psychological sign of a man trying to be vindictive & cause pain on her, as well as a desperate act of one who lost control over someone. It's quite pathetic.

Oh I´m sorry if you disagree, but ANYONE who thinks that he can do as well as he did even without Tarja is SO MISTAKEN. You can´t afford that luxury and proves are everywhere around the world. Tuomas actions were foolish and childish by thinking he and only he was the alma mater of the band. Yes he wrote and still writes and he do it great. This vid is making me miss Tarja more.. I'm just now getting over the fact that she is no longer with Nightwish but, I have to accept that Nightwish has a new singer now..and I will keep supporting them no matter what. Annette is no Tarja, nor do I want her to be. I think she sings well in her own style... For all you who miss Tarja, look on the bright side, she has an album out and is working on another; she hasn't given up on music yet. :]
