I have 2nd gen iPhone for two years now and today my friend got a new palm pre, after playing around with pre UI for few hours and coming back to iPhone I felt sorry for my iPhone. Pre is way better in interface and display.
Sorry to say it but if you guys want to compare, just compare iPhone vs BlackBerry, because Palm Pre is another (better) product. Multitasking/Synergy makes all the difrence. An it still the v1 I just wonder how many features v3.0 WebOs will come compared to the iPhone ones.

The new iPhone 3G S is coming out VERY soon. That will KILL the Palm Pre and the G1 - and possibly the Magic - so iPhone is going to be the winner for a while.
I don't think that any real competition will come soon until the new BlackBerry Tour comes out. And if that device does not beat out the iPhone, then the iPhone 3G S will be the best phone of the year. There is no reason to even lie.
3GS pathetic? Go read some benchmarks before you start making stupid posts like this, the 3GS renders twice as fast as the pre, 3x as fast as the storm or G1. The 3GS IS the most powerful phone on the market, it loads webpages faster, it runs apps faster, it runs everything significantly faster and the appstore is the largest application store ever. So suck a fat one you fanboy.
Other sites also wont log in or work on Pre, such as PayPal login won't work, nothing happens when I tap the "login" button after typing in my info. Mazdausa doesn't render right, many other sites don't render properly but do on my ipod touch. Also the phone's scrolling can sometimes be a little sluggish and is definately not as smooth as the silky smooth scrolling on ipod touch, surprising considering the pre's cpu.
Palm Pre's browser can not view some sites properly which my ipod touch will work fine on. 1) Jdate login doesn't work on Pre, works fine on Ipod touch. 2) Google Finance discussion groups when looking up a stock, comes up blank on pre, fine on ipod touch. 3) Features such as limit price and option search don't work on Pre, fine on ipod touch. and there's more.
You neglected to remove the email notification on the Pre when comparing screen size. Without removing notifications on the bottom, you effectively loose screen realestate. You should have cleared notifications before making a fair comparison in landscape view. Also the Pre does render the full facebook website fine. It's just the built in facebook bookmark is linked to the mobile site.
with the exception of the tech flaw with the battery, the pre is awesome. It breaks so many rules and pulls so many things together in a way never even conceived of on any device (portable or not)! And to think, you could just throw it away, buy a new one, and not loose a single bit of information! This phone has the most bomb integration of social networking and other information, organized in the most logical way. I am way sold
Well actually both phones have 320 by 480 megapixels or somthing but I still think the iPhone looks better for some reason... Any way 3G S will blow this away with its video camera, better graphics, and multimedia. But 3G S and Pre are the 2 best phones out right now.

There are so many reviewers out there that sound like they're on the Palm or Apple payroll (ok more like ALL on the Apple payroll) that I appreciate someone who can objectively breakdown both phones strengths and offer valid reasons to purchase either phone. and i'm **loving** my Pre. i'm one of those guys that leans more towards the Pre's pure smartphone capabilities then the iPhones edge with media. again, great vids.

First off if Your Carrier isn't Providing service then it doesn't matter what the phone is supposed to be able to do! ATT still a Year Later after 3G is offered has coverage in less than 1/10 of the Country, there are some whole states that dont have 3G Coverage. Try and watch a YouTube Video without buffering in those states. ATT needs to lower its pricing and increase their Coverage area as Sprint is Kicking their Ass! Even PhoneDoggie admits Sprint is Better than ATT where he is.

Whoah, the lack of keyboard in widescreen mode really is a HUGE issue. But I tend to prefer the PRE for everything else. If they can pop-up a touch-screen keyboard while in widescreen, it would be great.

with the exception of the tech flaw with the battery, the pre is awesome. It breaks so many rules and pulls so many things together in a way never even conceived of on any device (portable or not)! And to think, you could just throw it away, buy a new one, and not loose a single bit of information! This phone has the most bomb integration of social networking and other information, organized in the most logical way. I am way sold

Well actually both phones have 320 by 480 megapixels or somthing but I still think the iPhone looks better for some reason... Any way 3G S will blow this away with its video camera, better graphics, and multimedia. But 3G S and Pre are the 2 best phones out right now.

Both great but for me Pre wins. Its all around great, where as you have to wait for updates with the Iphone to get features that should have been there (Push, Copy &Paste). Iphone is better multimedia wise but the Pre is still great in that department. I will get the Pre, and keep my ITouch. Thanks Phonedog, the only unbias review out there.

Naa... go see a real one. Pre screen is AMAZING. Smaller than I phone screen but much crisper and vibrant. Iphone is great for all the apps, Pre is over all al better phone, over air updates on phone should fix any bugs, with a better future considering it is 4g capable and Sprint is rolling 4g out this summer.
I love apple products but the new Palm is her.
Pre/Sprint. > Iphone/apple

Noah, great review; as always objective and insightful. There are so many reviewers out there that sound like they're on the Palm or Apple payroll (ok more like ALL on the Apple payroll) that I appreciate someone who can objectively breakdown both phones strengths and offer valid reasons to purchase either phone. and i'm **loving** my Pre. i'm one of those guys that leans more towards the Pre's pure smartphone capabilities then the iPhones edge with media. again, great vids.

The Pre's screen does look brighter, but it also looks like the colors render warmer, and I personally don't like that.

First off if Your Carrier isn't Providing service then it doesn't matter what the phone is supposed to be able to do! ATT still a Year Later after 3G is offered has coverage in less than 1/10 of the Country, there are some whole states that dont have 3G Coverage. Try and watch a YouTube Video without buffering in those states. ATT needs to lower its pricing and increase their Coverage area as Sprint is Kicking their Ass! Even PhoneDoggie admits Sprint is Better than ATT where he is.

having a touch screen phone is nice but you will need a basic phone where you can dial the number without looking at the keypad itself in case of an emergency said a gun pointed right at your face...with touch screen phone....excuse me, let me take a look at my phone screen...lol

guyz did u notice,we are going bc in to the past.we liked curved edges on photos in the 80s the pointed edge in the 90 ,now were going bc again to curvy,look at pres screen(looks really nice).wow life is a circle.

i was going to buy the iphone 3G S but I was not blown away when they announced it's new features.
My friend has the Palm Pre and I HAVE to have it now. It is awesome. I think apple is losing their mojo.

Whoah, the lack of keyboard in widescreen mode really is a HUGE issue. But I tend to prefer the PRE for everything else. If they can pop-up a touch-screen keyboard while in widescreen, it would be great.

My pre does show the black bar all the way across in the browser... so maybe you changed something or it was just a rendering error that time.

I saw another review where they did side-by-side comparison of the two web browsers and Pre's browser was always just a bit faster than the iPhones (by 1-3 seconds per page) on both wifi and 3g. Just an FYI

I would like to see an acid3 test on both the iPhone and the Pre to see which one is actually supporting the standards better... My guess it will be the iPhone since Safari 4.0 passed the test without hickups

Pre has a physical keyboard, multitasking, and stereo bluetooth; iphone 3gs does not. These are features that are important to me, so I'm getting a Pre!

pre definantley wins, and, gamefreek, the keyboard on the pre when slid out makes it barely larger than the iphone, and even so, at least the pre has a physical keyboard, so i don't understand what you're complaining about.
