you be suprise I work for them and get guys all the time who don't know how to do simple things like turn on the tv set. their wives do it cause they pussy wipped.
why aren't the connections on a weather box. I know they say the grommets are weather proof but that much wire on the side of the house looks really bad. I heard them say there was no ground as well, did they ground it to the power meters ground or leave it off?
hmmm wonder why my direct went out when we got alot of snow then the customer support tech told me to clear the snow off the dish, WHAT!!! its on my roof it started getting worse and would go out when it was overcast so I dont know what xsubax is tallking about even their tech support tells you to clear snow off. Got cable back its alittle more money but way more reliable guess you get what you pay for, good luck to you though,
@ParanormalRob I'm a DirecTV tech and rain does not effect the dish like you're implying. That's definitely a myth. Rain, snow, wind etc. is all just fine.
@ParanormalRob The HD is great, and MRV (multi-rrom viewing) is awesome. Only one DVR on the SWM system and you can record from any box in the home. Rain does not effect the signal AT ALL. What you have to be concerned for is high winds and tons of snow. If you have a substantial amount of either, it can obviously disrupt your signal, but it's very rare. I speak with customers all the time that have had DirecTv for literally years with no problems.
@xSuBax Here's the thing we got 3 HD tvs and they wanted to charge $100 for the third receiver, is that still going on? Also, what about the local forecast? I'm still living with someone who'd rather get their local on the 8s then pulling it up on a webpage. I think HD should be standard but, who knows. It's my dream to get a 55 inch TV and the multiroom DVR, I'm with Cox Cable and currently, my bill is $135.00 for one DVR, 2 boxes, no premiums and that's not including internet!
well they done a good, clean job outside the house.those connectors a long side the house,,,it would never last long in my northern climate here in East Canada. But the rest seems ok for me.
SwPiotrek life is too short to spend commenting on people videos on youtube also so what is your excuse. I am not being a hypocrite because I don't agree with your comment, just pointing out the irony.
I answer DirecTv calls (customer service) from customers who have techs come out and don't take the time or day to answer even one question to these people who know nothing about what they're getting. If the world were better, we would know more technical stuff and you guys would be more customer oriented!
Thats not Ka/KU - that is a phase3 dish (101,110,119 only). Ka/KU is the same as a slimline but the lnbs are interchangeable (sl3,sl3s,sl5,sl5s). On a SD only install you only use swm if you have 5-8 tuners, that is, if you want to get paid properly as a dealer/installer. if you are doing mrv you use only green label swm lnbs. Of course all this will change in a month....
@dgafs13 i usex to install here in florida, our quality control would fail us if you couldnt fit a basketball through service loop, personally i think they should go sofball size. and why is it. line dish? sh
trust me all that job and neither Direct tv or even Time Warner they don't pay them well , it's pretty much 10% of the install cost that the customer get charged with
I used to install Directv. The one thing I didn't like is when you had a KaKu. The basic recievers, when connected to analog tv and coax on channel 3, look very bad and if the customer had an old school tv only coax connection the picture was horrible . It looked almost like a bad reception channel. With Dish it didn't matter tv looked very sharp and clear even on coax.
I'm sure they just loved being videotaped...99% of these guys do shitty installs. I install all m y own shit.....would never let anyone install anything in my house
@dhide14 Yup, sounds about right. We just got done ordering. For anyone ordering Directv, make sure you go through your local dealer. They have much better offers and much better installers. If anyone switching knows any neighbors or friends with Directv, just get their account number and give it to your sales rep and you and them save $100. If you don't know anyone, just message me and I'll give you mine.
just noticed it may not seem like it to you but i can tell that it was an sloppy install. those guys could have done better. to bad you didn't get ya an hd dvr you could have gotten movies on demand for free. over 6,000 of them. lol. also you wouldn't have had to have four different cables. its only one line from the dish to the house. if you get hd tvs in the future look into it bud.
@gotrdid09 it was pretty sloppy....and they can't even use RCA cables to hook up the receivers??? They were hooking up everything with coax and setting it up on channel 3??....that's pretty lame. Without HD TV's, the connection options are limited, but still.....the least you could do is get a little better video and audio with RCA's into a video input.
@pisser20001 WoW dude, it's 2011, you really need to upgrade to a FLAT SCREEN TV and a HIGH DEFINITION DVR. I feel bad for you just looking at that old school tube TV.
hey pisser my brother and i are contractors with direct tv. we ride in our own truck. no vans and no overhead. love it. i believe your going to be happy with direct. we have the best hd channels and the best sports packages. if you have any problems or anything just send me a message and more than likely i can help you out.
I know time warners rates have went up several times. But I also know my sister had both Dish Network and Direct TV and now she has the all in one time warner package. She told me all about the cut outs and glitches as well as the fun and charges to get anything fixed.I look at the problems with cost and malfuntions with both cable as well as sat and I almost consider the rabbit ears the cheapest solution.Though now that costs ya since you have to buy a stinken digital converter now.
@pisser20001 I guess lol. I can't remember what I paid. One of the main reasons besides the bad weather issue was at the time I got my phone, internet, and cable for under a $100 bucks.
Good luck with your new satellite hookup. I devised up a quick fix for the times that you lose your signal in a snow storm. I affixed a ninety degree brush to a telescopic swimming pool skimmer pole to brush off the snow that accumulates on the dish during snow squalls. Brush the snow off and resume watching your television. Nice Rochester hardwood floors in your residence too.
@Uticagreens good idea on the dish fix...a lot of work went into these floors..lots of sanding and finishing...still have to stairs and living room..but they still decent yet
new to the game but learnig fast im a dish network contractor
