I felt so awkward watching the over the edge pay per view after owen's death, all I could think about was him, vince got a alot of heat that night for continuing the show.
I was watching this live back in 1999 when it happened. I knew when Lawler spoke (8:05) that Owen was going to die. You could tell by the tone of his voice that something was seriously wrong.
If I remember right, shortly after this clip they interview Debra and Jeff Jarrett backstage and they come really, really close to breaking down. I think they cut the interview short and just say "Owen, we love you."
This was a tragic incident, the most tragic in the history of wrestling.

i really don't want to be controversial it was a horrific tradegy and my heart goes out to his family. But maybe Vince Mcmahon knows more about the accident that what he's saying based on the fact Bret Hart knocked him out with a punch. And it's kind of ironic and humiliating that Vince is so in control of his characters and his product that he would make an error in safety over such an important thing. And the only person this kind of accident ever happened to was one of the Harts.

Another unfortunate thing in all of this is that this event spawned an idea which indirectly influenced future story lines. Since this tragedy, how many times have commentators kayfabed, "This wasn't part of the story. This wasn't supposed to happen"? Shortly after this, Shane "accidentally" hit Steph. And JR said, "This wasn't part of the story." It was treated as real.
Everyone thats saying that this is not the actual footage, it is. They didnt show his entrance on tv bcus the promo was on! The only way you would be able to find footage of it would be if a fan who was there filmed it and put it on the internet...

When the unfortunate accident happened it was not actually being televised as they were showing something else (Some sort of backstage stories or what not) and in the actual arena all the lights had been dimmed down so even if people were video taping with the awesome camera's they had back then,They wouldn't have seen anything. I just think it is awful how Vince pressured Owen into it and then had the nerve to carry on the show. RIP

Never once had JR ever said something wasn't part of the show, or mentioned the words "wrestling angle" at this stage in his career. Yeah, I missed this one, I didn't even know about this until I saw it on Today news on NBC a long time ago. I was shocked that the owen hart, a wrestler has passed away after an accident. I think it was the first I've heard of such a death. Anyway. I've already seen how people some of them tried to get video of the fall, but some of them are fakes just to raise view count. anyway such a video will indeed piss off the Bret family and it's better off not being shown.

i really don't want to be controversial it was a horrific tradegy and my heart goes out to his family. But maybe Vince Mcmahon knows more about the accident that what he's saying based on the fact Bret Hart knocked him out with a punch. And it's kind of ironic and humiliating that Vince is so in control of his characters and his product that he would make an error in safety over such an important thing. And the only person this kind of accident ever happened to was one of the Harts.

Lawler had a look on his face when he sat down like he knew Owen was dead. It's still tough to watch all these years later. Another unfortunate thing in all of this is that this event spawned an idea which indirectly influenced future story lines. Since this tragedy, how many times have commentators kayfabed, "This wasn't part of the story. This wasn't supposed to happen"? Shortly after this, Shane "accidentally" hit Steph. And JR said, "This wasn't part of the story." It was treated as real.

For people who keep going "Oh, I wanna see the fall! There will be a video somewhere of it!" All I can say is, WWE burned the tapes that they had of the recording. Because their cameras would have recorded his fall but they didn't air it. There may be a home-video of the fall out there from someone in the crowd, but apart from that. There is nothing. When the unfortunate accident happened it was not actually being televised as they were showing something else (Some sort of backstage stories or what not) and in the actual arena all the lights had been dimmed down so even if people were video taping with the awesome camera's they had back then,They wouldn't have seen anything. I just think it is awful how Vince pressured Owen into it and then had the nerve to carry on the show. RIP
