As a kid I always felt sad for the witch when they melted her. Even as a kid it resonated that her "evil" had to come from somewhere painful. So, needless to say, I grew up to become a psychologist. Now I understand that evil people have to be held responsible for their actions, but I understand where it often comes from. (Yea, I know...it's "just" a movie! LOL).
i started to read to book and i am soon finished. and her story is soooo amazign o.o i mean dorothy is acctually bad XD if you know what i mean. i just dont understand while her sister died she was actually still in her castle. and she gets later to her sister but in the movie she appeared at the same time oO and in the movie glinda and her are fighting o.O but why ?! i tought they where friends (reading the book) just strange oO but i like the book way better then the movie XD !! go Elphaba XD
@PUPIukeLOVEseme: Actually, Dorothy was innocent. It's not like she meant to melt Elphaba in the movie or the novel. She was, in the movie's case, protecting the Scarecrow (oh the irony, given the Wicked musical) & in the novel, Elphie's black gown caught fire as well, so Dorothy was actually trying to save her! Furthermore, Glinda and Elphaba initially loathed each other as Shiz students, so perhaps, as years passed, they drifted apart.
Elphaba is beautiful in wicked and in the musical but in the wizard of oz she is ugly (sorry) so i like the wicked Elphaba more than the witch from the wizard of oz ;)
@Snowdiamond87: There's a precedent for that, though. Not only did Baum based both witches on his sufferagist mother-in-law, Matilda Gage, but the MGM film was initially going to have a glamorous witch played by Gale Sanderguard, but when execs complained that "bad witches are ugly", we got Margaret Hamilton in the role. Furthermore, Maggie herself also noted her own lack of beauty in comparison to Judy as Dorothy and Billie as Glinda (even though Maggie was only 30 when doing the part)!
@TherealRNO Oh really??I think it would be better to take a nice girl as the wicked witch, because everytime (in fairytales or stories) is the bad one ugly and the good one a beauty..and - of course- I know that the actress doesn't really look like this but when I was a little girl I was so afraid of her^^I think it's sad that the Elphaba in Wicked is so more different than this witch..
@Snowdiamond87: There's the thing...people still adhered to stereotypes back then, although the execs complaining about a glamorously wicked witch used the hag from Snow White as their example, despite the fact that the old crone was actually the beautiful Wicked Queen in a magical disguise! So really, whether she be physically "ugly" or just considered as such due to her anarchist stance against the established order, Elphaba is still the same witch people either love or hate.
it's too bad the government of Oz wasn't more politically correct or possessed of an army of social workers advocating her right to vent her anger. I would guess their chief industries were pharmaceuticals, (vast fields of opium poppies), precious stone mines (emeralds, perhaps), and agriculture (corn). Was the yellow brick road painted yellow or were the bricks that natural color? Their skin tint (and evidence of stunted growth) suggests the Munchkins may have worked with hazardous chemicals.
Psssst. When they make you remove your audio, just take the damn thing down all together. You're wasting alot of people's time.

Overall, it is nice that you use a song done by Jim Henson's alter ego, since Jim was himself an avid Oz fan!
