Soto was great for Journey. Nothing like that amateur they currently have. I wish there were more videos of Soto's performance's with Journy because youtube is overloaded with video's with Journey's current Karaoke singer.

You think Jeff Soto is the best singer? I don't understand Tagalog. Jeff sounds so different than Perry or Augeri. He is kind of hard and smooth at the same time. He isn't bad. He is smoother than Arnel Pineda, but he doesn't attempt to go to very high notes like AP does. Of course, Soto knows hitting such high notes isn't appropriate for his voice. It is somewhat appropriate for AP's voice, but it is straining his vocal cords. Jeff is cool.
It's true guys Noone can sing Journey better than Steve Perry. I take voice lessons from a Julliard Grad who learned from the best teacher in the world. Steve perry rolls through the High notes like butter because he is Highly trained and very gifted.

Arnel is not the man ! he is far from Perry in his day . Journey's new album is not on the same level as Infinity , Escape , or Frontiers . And has not matched those albums and tours. And Arnel isnt superior to Perry .

jss is a good singer except he doesnt sound a tenor. he is probably a baritone. unfortunately, neal schon & co are so adamant in keeping the songs in their original songs.
its not only a matter of hitting the hight notes, its also what key the singer uses. you can listen to the same music using diff keys through transposition. im not sure how many people are aware of this.
its very difficult for a tenor to sing bass same thing with bass to sing tenor
well, i dont think they would fire arnel.. they were so impressed at his performance in chile and thereafter.. he is consistent... lively and fresh.. uptodate looking... and for sure can reach-out to the youth to love journey more on the current days...even for the next 15 years..
The band basically fired Steve Perry, then Jeff Soto, and then sort of fired Augeri when his voice was weak. When Perry stepped away with his injury, Schon used that to gain more power, and has been firing musicians ever since. Don't think Pineda will be around for a very long time. He might be there for 3 years tops.
However, his vocal cords are under pressure with Schon.
JSS Has one of the most amazing voices ever. Prior to do Boogie Knights (which obviously blew his incredulous top-range out) He was arguably one of the best hard Rock voices in the world if not thee best. Now he is still VERY very good. Yes, better than Arnel. In fact JSS is more popular (and has been for over two decades) in Japan than Arnel, or any other mentioned here. JSS's only flaw is his crazy huge ego. That's what lost him the Journey gig. Too bad :( I LOVE his voice!

Steve Perry(a legend) set the vocal standards for Journey's songs. But he's not reuniting with the band(so far), Steve A. is good, JSS is also good but different style, Hugo V. looks like Steve P. but lacks voice power. Arnel Pineda has a very high powered vocals with uncanning pitch similarity to Steve P. It doesnt matter what race you are. You cant deny a "pure talent", band singer or even karaoke singer, a talent is a talent.

Only the Young is one of Jeff's best vocal performances. I was at this concert. In most of the songs, andthis one especially, he was really hitting those notes well.
I will reserve judgement on Soto until I hear more from him, but I will give him some advice....Do not become too popular, some people do not like that. Watch your back!!!

Earth to people. Steve Augeri is sick in the hospital with a very bad throat infection. That's way Jeff Scott Soto is singing. I went to the Journey concert in Auburn, Washington. I was very impressed I think Jeff's voice is wicked and he is very energetic. When I get around to it I'll load the videos I recorded.
Saw them a few weeks ago. I definitely can get used to this. JSS surprised me compared to what I remember on the Yngwie stuff. That's right, no more stupid dungeons and dragons lyrics that he'd have to sing from 20 years ago.

Neal Schon of Journey and JSS came together and formed the band Soul SirkUS with bassist Marco Mendoza and drummer Deen Castrovono (Journey's current drummer, later replaced by Virgil D.).
Man, Journey had such a fresh feel with JSS. I was excited again about their music. Now, anything past Perry is meaningless to me.

Jeff can sing everything, after Perry left, he was the best for journey, just because he was the only singer who didn't copy the original, besides Jeff's a great singer as well as a frontman.
They were a band again with Jeff.

jss is a good singer except he doesnt sound a tenor. he is probably a baritone. unfortunately, neal schon & co are so adamant in keeping the songs in their original songs.
its not only a matter of hitting the hight notes, its also what key the singer uses. you can listen to the same music using diff keys through transposition. im not sure how many people are aware of this.
its very difficult for a tenor to sing bass same thing with bass to sing tenor

well, i dont think they would fire arnel.. they were so impressed at his performance in chile and thereafter.. he is consistent... lively and fresh.. uptodate looking... and for sure can reach-out to the youth to love journey more on the current days...even for the next 15 years..

The band basically fired Steve Perry, then Jeff Soto, and then sort of fired Augeri when his voice was weak. When Perry stepped away with his injury, Schon used that to gain more power, and has been firing musicians ever since. Don't think Pineda will be around for a very long time. He might be there for 3 years tops.
However, his vocal cords are under pressure with Schon.

JSS Has one of the most amazing voices ever. Prior to do Boogie Knights (which obviously blew his incredulous top-range out) He was arguably one of the best hard Rock voices in the world if not thee best. Now he is still VERY very good. Yes, better than Arnel. In fact JSS is more popular (and has been for over two decades) in Japan than Arnel, or any other mentioned here. JSS's only flaw is his crazy huge ego. That's what lost him the Journey gig. Too bad :( I LOVE his voice!

Steve Perry(a legend) set the vocal standards for Journey's songs. But he's not reuniting with the band(so far), Steve A. is good, JSS is also good but different style, Hugo V. looks like Steve P. but lacks voice power. Arnel Pineda has a very high powered vocals with uncanning pitch similarity to Steve P. It doesnt matter what race you are. You cant deny a "pure talent", band singer or even karaoke singer, a talent is a talent.

Steve Augueri was a girl with the Perrylike voice but without the power and personality to be the front man,the band sounded like a great Tribute band.Now Jeff, has the charisma, power and and the voice.. Only the Young is one of Jeff's best vocal performances. I was at this concert. In most of the songs, andthis one especially, he was really hitting those notes well.

At least now, they have a singer of more caliber than Steve Augeri, Jeff Scott Soto is a Great Singer in his own right, who has done alot of great music with Yngwie, and in the movie Rockstar! Steve Perry is a GOD, and I was very dissapointed with the choice of Steve Augeri, but at least now they actually have a singer who is capable enough to do the material for Journey! They should have gotten a singer like Soto years ago! Still miss Steve Perry though, he will never be duplicated!

And as far as the Majority of the songs being written by Ross, Jon and Neal-you need to get your head out of your own ass and know the facts. Most of the songs were written by Steve Perry and Neil Schon along with Jon Cain. Any true Journey fan knows that.And Ross, you are right on the money! The lead singer change is another of Neil's shallow attempts to continue beating a dead horse. Thank God Perry had the sense to leave.

Wonder what the fans who were desperately waiting for Augeri's return think now, after the 'shock' announcement that Soto is now official and the new lead vocalist? I guaranteed to those that would listen that Soto would be announced as the new singer before the end of '06, yet the statement will still be met with 'shocked' stunned' & 'saddened' comments from the hardcore 'Generations', whereas a select few knew it was coming - and the truth behind why.

Bands are made up of people. Things evolve. If permanence was guaranteed nobody would be divorced, either. I think JSS is great--and I had the original Journey album with Gregg Rolie on vocals and keys. Steve Perry moved on, and wisely, so has Journey--they are current and performing. Bravo.

Earth to people. Steve Augeri is sick in the hospital with a very bad throat infection. That's way Jeff Scott Soto is singing. I went to the Journey concert in Auburn, Washington. I was very impressed I think Jeff's voice is wicked and he is very energetic. When I get around to it I'll load the videos I recorded.
