Rory was in I think in 1966 chored as the worlds best rhythem and blues guitarist by NME or was it MM. Anyway who cares, I followed him from his time in skid row. til his ascending into guitar heaven. I love living but I woulnt be too sad about dying, knowing I will meet him again and so many other musicians I loved.

I dont think he ever married, and Gary Moore said he saw him shortly before his death and he was living in a hotel alone,I wonder if someone broke his heart. We still have the fantastic music , all Hail the great Gallagher ,but you really had to see him playing live, he really connected with the audience, we all loved him.

@barblessable Rory kept his private life private, so i cant help you there. He was not an alcoholic, even though he died on an operation table having a liver transplant. He had liver trouble and was on medication for it. I only saw him once but still was and am a fan. I saw him on tv in one of his last concerts. His face was bloated and he sure didnt look too healthy. His home town was Ballyshannon and there is a festival there every year in his honour. Im hope to attend it next year.

@MrMiseeire The last time i saw Rory was circa 1980/1 at Preston Guild Hall my wife had never seen him and didnt really listen when i played his records, the band came out and went straight into Back in your Town,a long version ,but Rory was so charismatic ,she was transfixed .. like the rest of us,he played his heart out as always.He looks ill on his later gigs but he could still play great up to the end. No gig i ever went to had such a genuine feeling of affection and amazemet .
