I can play this over and over and never get tired of it. It is like hearing it for the first time each time I listen. Daryl Singletary also does a great version of Johnny's song. I wish we still had Johnny and singers like him today. No comparison in today's silly songs and songs like this.
Paycheck was so underrated, and still is today. This man is a true legend, and he stands tall right next to George Jones, Waylon, Willie, Cash and all of the rest of the legends. They need to put him in the Hall of Fame, and shame on them for not having done it yet. This just beats the HELL out of anything they are playing on the radio today!
If this ain't what true country is, then i might as well forget it. Because nothing else can't qualify.
I would more than anything like to have seen him when he was still alive. To sad i was born in the wrong country and to young to have been able to see him live and change a couple of words.
Super song ! Its a shame that he along with so many of the original greats have been so forgotten by the new Nashville stars. They wouldn't be there if it wasn't for these guys playing all the dumps and dives along the way that put country musuc on the map......... R.I.P.
The first time I heard this I was at the bar drinking, and we got to wondering who was singing it.Somebody went to the jukebox and said it was Johnny Paycheck, and from then on we played it al the time..
At His Funeral There Were Bikers, To Bankers, To Everyday Average People. All Came To Pay Their Respects To A Hell Of A Man, And A Great Country Singer. Rip Paycheck.
He already is in the 'Hall of Fame' of the Chillicothe, Ohio prison where he spent time in the joint. Merle and Johnny entertained his fellow con's there too!
You know it is sad that the people that made music like this is forgotten Johnny was one of the greatest. Maybe one day they wil put him in the Hall of Fame but those stupid people in Nashville it may take some Time a Long Time.
I can't beleve paycheck is not in the country hall of fame! If this song does not touch your heart , I don't know what would .His voice is unbelieveable thank you
l would like to see one DAM "country" singer today do this live no less!
God i miss Johnny Paycheck

One of the greatest country songs of all time. It's sad to watch, really analogous to Johnny's actual life..."put away to be never played again".
