That's the one part of this ep I've forgotten in many years since seeing it last time, the rifle inspection joke of the violion bows. One of my most eps of them all. Sneaky feline is the Pink Panther, always getting what he's going for and getting whoever opposes him in trouble along the way or causing the opposition trouble just as much.
This was the very first Pink Panther cartoon I remember watching, when I was around four years old. It also burned the opening notes to Beethoven's 5th Symphony into my conscience (LOL). The Little Man shooting the coughing audience member is straight from Bugs Bunny's "Rhapsody Rabbit", another Friz Freleng cartoon. I always thought Pink looked cool with that cigarette holder in his mouth, but it never made me take up smoking. He probably dropped it when cig ads were banned from TV in the 60s.
I like this short as it shows Henry Mancini applauding the Pink Panther, at successfully conducting the musical theme he had written, in 1962 or 1963. The Pink Panther was a substitute or "guest- conductor".
@frank2356130 The late Henry Mancini was a famous TV and film composer of the 1960's. Besides "The Pink Panther Theme", he also wrote the theme songs for the TV shows "Peter Gunn", "Route 66", "Mr. Lucky", "What's Happening", "NBC Nightly News", "Tic Tac Dough" and the "Letters, we get your letters" jingle for David Letterman. As a film composer, he wrote the music for "Breakfast at Tiffany's", "Days of Wine and Roses", "Victor/Victoria" and all the "Pink Panther" films.
Beethoven has nothing on Henry Mancini and this cartoon proves it. I love the look on the conductor's face every time the Panther interrupts Beethoven's 5th Symphony with The Pink Panther Theme. Hilarious!
@curt349 I know man, that would NEVER, EVER fly in a kid's cartoon in 2011, parents would shit themselves nowadays if Spongebob pulled a gun and capped someone
This is actually very funny - I love the Pink Panther, I just did not know if the cartoon was good or not. What commentary - I didn't hear any commentary?
Bout time I found this on the internet. It's been in my memory for years, down to the cough, the shot, and the blowing of the smoking gun. I tried googling something like this and all I got was that bloody rhapsody rabbit skit.
The scene with the conductor shooting a guy for coughing was most likely inspired by Bugs Bunny doing the same thing in "Rhapsody Rabbit", another cartoon done by Friz Freleng. He must of liked that gag. Great cameo by the great Henry Mancini at the end. His music is wonderful!
That conductor is mean! Shooting a guy for coughing. That rendition of the Pink Panther theme song was so bad that I see why Henry Mancini was the only one clapping.
He killed a guy

I think the Pink Panther cartoons were originally released in 4:3 fullscreen and MGM just zoomed them in to make them look like widescreen.
