  • Baranby jones tune almost sounds like police story theme

  • Barnaby Jones a QM prodution, Staring Buddy Epson & Lee Mayweather. Also Staring William Shatner,Lendard Nimoi,Chuck Norris, Guest Staring Heather Locklar. Tonight Episode: Murder on Granite City.

  • A Quinn Martin production

  • Intense theme songs like this let you know the show was gonna be good...and you were never let down!

  • Brought to you by...

  • south park brought me here. :)

  • Replay button. Over and over and over...

  • Jerry Goldsmith also wrote a similar-sounding theme for "POLICE STORY".

  • Hold it right there.....

  • Tonight's Episode: Murder-Go-Round.

  • A QUINN MAR--oh, 50 people already said it. Never mind.

  • I named my cat Barnaby Jones, I'm gonna take videos of him and make his own opening sequence

  • A QUINN MARTIN production.

  • When I ask someone what the name of the song in the South Park episode "Chicken Lover" is, he answers:,, The Barnaby Jones Theme!" but thats something totally different?!

  • @ToddInLN52254 And that's Jerry Goldsmith with the theme.

  • Awesome opening theme song, the melody is so hottt!!!

  • I can hear this in the living room as I'm running around with wet hair, right out of the bath. It's later than most kids my age would be up, but Mom's theory was if I needed sleep, I'd go to sleep. If I was tired the next morning & didn't want to get up, sh'd just take a belt to my butt.

  • @HGbunny LOL!!! you are a nut, know that?

  • Sounds like the theme song from the Planet of the Apes but I remember this show. It was great. Who would have thought that the original tin man in the wizard of oz movie would end up with his on television show when he is an old man? Only in hollywood. RIP Buddy.

  • Barnaby Jones......Tonight's episode... THE MILK DRINKER AT THE BAR.......LOL

  • Awesome theme but just donesn't sound right without the narrator going thru the endless list of "super-extra-special-guest-co-stars" & then giving us the title of tonight's episode

  • love this song, very dark but brings back good memories somehow.

  • AWESOME ! I was actually able to write and get a signed photo from Buddy Ebsen years after this show went off the air. I sure love the old Quinn Martin Productions! 5*

  • Wow that theme song brought back memories. That drummer's hi-hat style is a technique that inspired many disco beats. Who wrote this. It's part Quincy Jones, part Big Band, part damn, the genius who wrote all those Pink Panther, Breakfast at Tifanny, Moonriver themes. What's his name. Anyway. Great music, great actor, great man....the late great Buddy Epson!

  • The BARNABY JONES theme was written by Jerry Goldsmith, who by this time was working mostly in films

  • @toddscotland Henry Mancini?

  • Oh....one more - as a young boy in the 70s I certainly remember Barnaby Jones secretary. Wow what a goddess eh?

  • @ toddscotland

I loved this theme, I always thought it was terrific, yet somehow melancholic, curiously at odds with the actual subject matter of the series, though I have to say I also loved Buddy Ebsen as well! It's said that composer Jerry Goldsmith did not like this theme himself?

  • @toddscotland hey, u also remember most shows of the day used Ford as their car of choice. Oliver Douglas of Green Arcres drove a 500, Baranaby drove an LTD, and Dan-o on Hawaii Five-0 had a black Galaxie/500?

  • I want to see some nice clips of Barnaby Jones, especially the ones in which Jones goes into action, batting criminals. I want to see how he does it.

  • It is????

Wow, Its about time I can't wait and now they need to release The F.B.I. !!!

  • this show is long overdue for dvd release

  • It is finally coming out on dvds in February 2010.

  • Uncle Jed?!!

  • boy I sure loved this show

  • the 70's cop shows all had memborable into songs. expecially at the end when the announcer always said it was a quinn martin production.

  • Powerful theme song. It brought me in to watching the show which was not to bad . A Quinn Martin production.

  • another fabulous Quinn Martin Production.

  • Best theme I ever heard. It brings back memories.

  • Great melody. I love those 70s crime drama show themes. So intense and musical.

  • Yes, I agree! The Barnaby Jones theme, especially the slower version always seemed curiously wistful and melancholic to me, but I loved it. Ironically, it's said that this theme was not liked by the composer himself, Jerry Goldsmith.

  • Oh well, there goes the theory that states "before one can move others, one must himself be moved."

  • Jerry Goldsmith didn't want to score the pilot because he hated the show, but was forced to because he was guaranteed the publishing rights.

  • @ProtoCosmos I agree. The crime drama theme songs of today, they lack the panache and worth.

  • Its long past due to release this awesome classic tv on dvd.....

  • I say the same here

  • the same here

  • Great theme song!

  • @Precipitation The theme music was composed by the late, great Jerry Goldsmith.

  • It sounds like the early seasons theme? Loved this show
