listening to melvin sing.. smh... yall dont understand.. send chills up and thru me!!! old man river, and ESPECIALLY silent night..lawd... cant help it.. this cut right HERE tho..does something to me.. blue you are missed.
That Melvin was a true asset.... i alwasy say the Tempts was a God plan, leaving a mark on the world... Motown... Thank God for you, you eased the pain and gave us hope.
You are so right, Melvin sanged lead on several songs,in my opinion they should of allowed him to sang lead on more songs because of his unique bass voice. Melvin had one of a kind bass voice. Berry wasn't a very smart businessman in my opinion, yes by all means he started Motown, but I feel he got blind sided with Diana Ross, and didn't develop all of the talent he had at Motown.
In my humble opinion this was the best album ever by the Temptations, I don't think there was a bad song on the whole album. Hand dance down on this song back in the day.
@anntheia59 yup... Franklin sang a handful of featured leads with the group as well, including the songs "I Truly, Truly Believe" (The Temptations Wish It Would Rain, 1968), "Silent Night" (Give Love At Christmas, 1980), "The Prophet" (A Song for You, 1975), and his signature live performance number, Paul Robeson's "Ol' Man River".
The only song that Melvin Franklin actually did full lead on. My favorite with the bass man. Who say the backgroun can't get down? Melvin showed us all, that you don't have to be the lead singer to get it right. Rock on Bass Man! "Cause I Truly, believe you, yes I do."
HOT DAMN....I USE TO LISTEN TO THIS IN MY BED ROOM SINGING IN FRONT OF THE MIRROR...I STILL HAVE THE ALBUM.....DAMN...WHAT A GREAT SONG!!! AND GREAT MEMORIES...SO GLAD I CAN SAY I WAS AROUND AT THIS WONDERFUL TIME.....
@RXmusic4YO LOL I used to dance my behind off to this jam back in the day. COULD NOT REMEMBER the name of it, just that it was the "B" side of more popular song! We was serious when we danced to this song!!!
OMG cant believe I found it. Thank you Thank you Thank you for posting. I've been looking for this song forever. Used to love it when the guitar part came in. Got a kick out of this song as a kid. Melvins voice was so low. This is truly a "Detroit Thang" lol!!!
It's not widely know, but Eddie did vocals for this using the exact same backing track and featuring him using his natural voice. Melvin's version was chosen over it. Check out The Complete Motown Singles, Vol. 7: 1967.
Thank you so much for posting this song. It brought back so many memories of my teenage 'love' years. Melvin was great, one of the best baritones that ever lived. I wish he had done more leads. Nevertheless, The Temptations live on forever in our hearts and in the music they left for posterity. There will never be another group like The Tempting Temptations! Rest in Peace, Eddie, David, Melvin and Paul. Keep the music alive Otis!
Thank you. Thank you. A friend of mine who was lost both of his legs in Viet Nam used to play this song all the time and I was trying to find it to so he could hear it. Melvin was blowing on this one. He's gone, but not forgotten. MOST GREATFUL.
Temps Fan, you are truly the gem in this crown... I love you much!!! Nothing fake about you being a true a Temptations' fan..we like the " B" sides...
One of the Best Albums by the Tempts., bought the orginal album that i have to this day and I still listen to the orginal Temptations before all the stand ins
@The022450 Otis deserves more credit than he gets. He was the glue that kept the Temps together. Paul was the soul of the group. And Dennis filled in great after David left. The Temps - they were all great. Give them all credit.
