The mamas and papas were a fabulous band and I believe this was their best. I will never get enough of this fantastic song. The lyrics, the tune , the arrangement are just perfect.

It is, of course, a matter of personal choice, but I'm with you on this one. I too think this was their best.. and goodness knows they've had many. I should also mention that Cass and I were good friends and even performed together. I always loved the group and truly still miss Cass to this day.

The haunting melodies of Cass and Michelle in the background are what, in my mind, set this version apart from the "mainstream" version of Ben E King (which is just flogged to death!) And the lovely little string interludes, and the tinkly bells! Just a brilliant arrangement from a brilliant arranger and a brilliant group. Thank you.

@cshargeit Don't mean to ruin it for you man but John Lennon didn't write the song "Mister Moonlight" it was a cover. The song was written by Roy Lee Johnson. I couldn't help but noticed that since I am a big Beatle fan so I just thought to let you know :)

John was the writer and arranger, but Denny was the voice. Just wonderful.

John Phillips didn't write this.Ben E. King had the original hit in '61. Both versions are good.
