  • "Spanish Harlem" was a Hit Single By David Donaldson In 1961.

  • Phil Spector wrote the song. A much misunderstood man.

  • Love this version and Aretha Franklin's

  • John Phillips had so many great arrangements

  • The mamas and papas were a fabulous band and I believe this was their best. I will never get enough of this fantastic song. The lyrics, the tune , the arrangement are just perfect.

  • It is, of course, a matter of personal choice, but I'm with you on this one. I too think this was their best.. and goodness knows they've had many. I should also mention that Cass and I were good friends and even performed together. I always loved the group and truly still miss Cass to this day.

  • The haunting melodies of Cass and Michelle in the background are what, in my mind, set this version apart from the "mainstream" version of Ben E King (which is just flogged to death!) And the lovely little string interludes, and the tinkly bells! Just a brilliant arrangement from a brilliant arranger and a brilliant group. Thank you.

  • from this- or somthing like it-- john jennon wrote" mister moonlight".. i mean it man.

  • @cshargeit sounds a bit like it!

  • @cshargeit Don't mean to ruin it for you man but John Lennon didn't write the song "Mister Moonlight" it was a cover. The song was written by Roy Lee Johnson. I couldn't help but noticed that since I am a big Beatle fan so I just thought to let you know :)

  • phil spector the criminal co-wrote this with jerry leiber

  • this is one of my favorites by them, love it.

  • they where all !!! the voice as you put it ... Cass Elliot 4 me ,, just luv them all ,, class a whole lot a magic ??

  • John was the writer and arranger, but Denny was the voice. Just wonderful.

  • John Phillips didn't write this.Ben E. King had the original hit in '61. Both versions are good.

  • @garyalee You are right of course; it's a cover. I meant to say that John in general was brilliant in writing and arranging, and that Denny had a magnificant voice.

  • what more can a see ,Thanks for this song

  • @peeting1 was one of my favorites in vietnam in 1968-69
