It is very hard to care for a chick as little as this one. They to be in a warm place around 30 degrees celsius and they need to be fed around the clock at least once every hour. I feel bad for this chick because it's very week and doesn't open it's mouth to ask for food... I hate to break it to you all, but it's most likely dead at this time. SAD

It is VERY hard to keep them alive. The attention and time required is insane, the care is very demanding. I've tried several times as well, and it rarely works out the way I'd like, though it does sometimes. You did the best thing, and tried. That's all you can ever do. um dia eu estava voltando do trabalho e encontrei um filhote de passarinho que não conseguia voar, e um cachorro do lado rosnando. entrie em panico!! peguei o passarinho, fui correndo pra casa pra tentar fazer alguma coisa, mas quando cheguei no portão de casa o passarinho já tava morrendo... ele morreu nas minhas mãos, é uma sensação horrível!

same thing has happened to me with a baby bird i was sitting out side and the poor lil baby birds nest just fell down and there where three eggs one busted and i picked up the other two eggs and the baby bird took them in put them under a heat lamp and the next day the baby finally ate and i actually had some luck I got to let him go about two months later along with the other one that made it but one was not so lucky and i really love animals and I respect you for helping the lil guy

Bless you for trying so hard to save this baby bird. My daughters and I have done the same thing on many occasions. Sometimes the baby survives and we are able to release it once it can fly and other times it doesn't make it. We're always sad when one dies, but at least we know we did the best we could. You're right...veterinarians will refuse to help you. They'll say just put it in a box and let it die. I guess it's a good thing they're not human doctors, with that lack of compassion!

This bird could be a little swallow. I know, because i've already incubated barn swallow eggs in my incubator machine, and after i brought up the chicks succesfully. I think you didn't heat the chick, and it was the fatal mistake you've made. I usually use a little standard lamp with 25 W light bulb for it. The food is little insects or pieces of insects dip into water, cottage cheese-hard boiled eggs-carrot mixture, and you have to give them to the bird in little portions with a fine tweezers

Where did you get a premature bird? I see birds like that around where I used to work. The mother birds build a nest in the telephone poles or light post, or other man made places. I believe what happens is, that the mother bird had 2 chicks, and I saw this on one of those nature programs, the stronger chick pushes the weaker smaller chick out of the nest so that he doesn't have to share food.

did you find it? i found 4 chicks on the ground about that size with a cat sitting at them playing with them, i chased the cat away, (it ate one) and reaerd the surviving 3. i tore open a pillow to make a fluffy nest for them along with some cotton for the outside, they lived till they were ready to fly. :), they look so fragile at that age

Thats because you touched it and moved it around. It doesn't have the ability to fight infection at that stage. If you had any idea how to care for a premature bird you would feed it and leave it in a warm and dry spot. Plus try to limit the bacteria in the area. (Disinfecting the living area and handling the bird with powderless latex gloves.)
