Watching Mardi Gras highlights on TV every year, the first thing I notice is the Spanish Architecture with balconies of Bourbon Street. The facades of Bourbon Street remind me heavily of the old villages of Castille in central Spain.
The so called Spanish architecture is actually Muslim influenced. And most of the cast iron work was done by west Africans who knew how to do it. The Spanish had very little real influence on Louisiana's architecture.
so, now because the blacks were the labor, and the architecture was muslim influenced then the spanish have no influence????...lol...c'mon....you could say the same about almost every biulding in ths spanish or portuguese america......too broad your comment i think...or you could also say the same about romans..salves were labor, influence by etrusca, hence,.little roman influence......that logic doesnt work
@monk1588 Er no, the Africans who did the iron work on these building weren't slaves, they were people who knew how to cast iron well. Louisiana's racial history is very very different from the rest of the country, not all Africans here were slaves. That being said, at the time of colonization, Spain was still heavily influenced by the Muslim world as they were previously a Muslim society. So the architecture has more Muslim influence than traditional Spanish.
ok, FIRST, THE SPANISH that came TO new orleans were never a muslim society. They were occupied, and conquered by muslims, but the society was always christian. The architecture was influenced by the muslims, that might be, but that doesnt mean that the spanish had no influence in the reconstruction of the buildings.THEY BUILT IT. About the slaves i never said ALL were slaves. Nowhere in the colonies ALL balcks were slaves. There were free blacks too but the slaves built and work in the colonies
i agree that maybe it has more muslim influence, but that was not my point, My issue was with you saying that spain had little influence because blacks did the work and the buildings architecture was influence by the muslim architecture in spain.,,,greetings.!!
@BarcelonaSpain100 Hey the reason that the old town of New Orleans is called the French Quarter and not the Spanish Quarter, is because the French did build it, but there was a great fire at the time when the Spanish owned Louisiana, and the Spanish rebuilt it with Spanish buildings. Hope that helps. I am a Spanish descendant of Louisiana.
States of Florida, Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Louisiana, California, Nevada or Texas were the territories of new spain from XVI to XVIII centuries.
