the guy playing mark looks like a total loser, and not in the good way, and the guy playing roger looks like a total junkie and, once again, not in the good way
@hogrireda That's called casting dumbass. Do you not know Rent at all? A guy that makes a comment about something he doesn't even know about looks like a loser to me.
i don't really like this roger. there's a part where it seems like he only just remembers his lines. and aside from that the only emotion i get from him is anger. roger is so much more than that.
as wonderful as "Perhaps that's because I'm the one of to survive" is, I really find it only makes sense when refering to the immediate Roger/Mark/Mimi situation, because Maureen and Joanne aren't dying of aids
@AbbyReidMcGee i actually dont think this is in reference to mimi either. he hasnt been struggling with mimi dying really... i think this line is more about roger, collins and maybe angel, the people who's imminent deaths have been the subject of his fear for years.
@AbbyReidMcGee mimi is struggling with her addfiction, relationship with roger and aids. Rodger is struggling with Mimi and his impending death, Collins has aids and his lover has died of it, Maureen and Joanne have been struggling with each other and keep hurting each other. They're all feeling the death of Angel.
mark is amazing! maureen and joanne are great too. But I think Roger is a too aggressive, i mean it is ok that he acts with rage for expressing his feelings, but for my opinion it is a little too much pushing.
The only ones that seem good in this to me are Mark, Maureen, and Collins... The others aren't very good at playing the role. In my opinion. Everyones voice is great, though!
It's so sad, all of the problems these people are going through and how each issue is unique to one person. RENT is really a journey of discovery and strife for each individual, yet....at the same time, they all need each other. Mark in particular - he feels so alone, like a mere observer, as if he's trapped behind a pane of glass, only allowed to watch. Adam Kantor makes the character of Mark seem truly real, and I love him for that.
I've watching this particular version of Rent dozens of times. I love it, but sometimes... the constant sniffling gets annoying. I'm all for emotion, but when I just want to listen to them sing with passion, it gets smothered by phlegm and awkward sounds.
Might just be because i have been listening to sad songs all day but this version, this particular singer.. Brilliant, can almost hear the sadness and dread in mark's voice. I love Rent.
Great to see Traci again! This is a very, very impressive cast, the best I've seen in a long time. I even like that Roger looks more like an 80's glam rocker. This is the first make-up job that's captured the era.
@superskuj I agree with qwertygirl789. Roger is dealing with an incurable disease and the difficult decision of weather to leave and abandon Mimi or to watch her slowly die. He is also dealing with angels death and the fact that all of his friends are leaving each other. Most people would either get violent or breakdown and cry.

I HATE THIS. Has anyone here seen the original movie? If you have you wouldn't like this. Roger is not violent. What the hell, he practically beat Mimi at 2:57 and she had to be held back, yes they can sing, but this isn't Rent, this is some lame as remake. I know its good when a movie stays on Broadway, but this is just wrong. Roger is calm, and Benny sounds way to female. THIS IS BAD!!!
I would have to disagree. For one, Roger is a confused, torn person with a lot of baggage. In the movie, i just couldn't feel that roger was believable. Here, i feel like he actually acts like a person like him would act. Also, I feel like the characters didn't do enough movement in certain singing scenes, like in the grave yard. They for the most part stand around and sing. Here, they achully do something other than sing.
@QwertyGirl789 But roger in the movie is played by the original person who played roger.. Its all about personal feeling, of course, but obviously Larsen felt something from him enough to cast him originally. The great thing about RENT though is that people pull from various different things and the roger here pulled from anger while the original roger pulled from an almost numb place. He still holds anger but at the same time, he isnt properly dealing.
@superskuj The original movie? ;) Have you seen the thousands of performances before the "original movie"? Besides, the movie glossed it over. As much as I love the OBC, they didn't perform the story in that movie. They sang it. This isn't a remake, this is as it should be. Not to mention, if you think there is no violence you should check some of the OBC's performances on YT. Roger DOES throw fits. At one point he goes for Mark.
@superskuj They made the movie AFTER the thousands of award winning Broadway performances, this is the original. The movie changed bits and left out some of the best songs, so technically, the movie is "bad."
@superskuj 1. Mimi was going to beat Roger, not Roger beat Mimi...
2. This is the original format of the play cause, guess what, the person who wrote Rent wrote it as a play. And the movie has a number of the original cast of the play in it.
3. This version has a lot more emotion in it than the movie. Sure, some of the songs are not as snazzy in the Broadway version, but that is just how it is. There are things they can do in films that they can not do on the stage...
@superskuj Lastly, this longer version of Goodbye Love adds way more to the story than the movie's version did. If you had seen the original version before the movie AND if you truly understood what the songs and acting in the stage version were trying to get across, you would not hate this version.
@elfboy676 Ah, so that's why I can't find this version from the film. I think the second part of the song (Mark and Roger) is the best part and was beginning to wonder why every uploader on Youtube decided to cut the song short just before it began. Thanks for clearing this up.
Never got to see this live. One of my greatest regrets.

2:55 DAMN! The power in Roger's outbursts is off the hook!
Say what you will about him not portraying this right (which to me is not true), but the power in his voice is UNREAL!

I understand by Roger is mad, but I hate how immature he is acting... I rather have Adam Pascal then Will Chase.

Also, Roger's last girlfriend committed suicide when she found out she had AIDS, of course he's unprepared to commit to a new relationship fully.
