  • Ok I found it! Roland KD-7 Compact Kick Trigger.

  • Does anybody know what kick triggers he is using in this video? those devices attached to pedals instead of classic kick pads. where to buy the same or simmilar?

  • how in the hell does he get his pedals to go into that direction?

  • @dangerrat456 ok, take a normal pedal. now take the beater and the shaft its attached to off. flip it upside down. Now put it back in the same hole you took it out of.

  • @CryHavocband could i do this with a sonor 400 series pedal or a DW 2000?

  • @dangerrat456 the only pedals i'm famaliar with are tama's but if they are fully adjustable it should work.

  • Thomas Lang's interdependence between all four limbs blows...my...mind... every single time

  • This guy is on par with Terry Bozzio & Stewart Copeland- truly fantastic

  • This guy is on par with Terry Bozzio & Stewart Copeland

  • I think this guy was an octopus in his previous life.

  • hes the only drummer in the world who can move 5 pedals with two feet

  • Hello

I have read through all the comments here and with all due respect, I think many of you are missing the point. We could debate his musicallity, or the sound quality, but the point you may be missing is that in the more melodic parts of this solo (at least), Thomas approaches the kit as an ELECTRONIC INSTRUMENT, not just a simulation of a "real" kit. It's a slightly (or hugely) different mindset. Think about a piano versus a synthesizer for a good analogy. Open your mind and listen please!

  • is that marco on the tv back there?

  • its AMAZING how he does this,...i couldnt,...but does it sound good? i personally think no but that is just me im not a fan of the clave etc he sounds awesome when he tom rolls tho!! :P such flawless technique

  • Unreal drummer with a useful very, very overpriced toy which still falls a long way short of a real kit.... at a total price of 9 grand!!!!

  • sounds like a latin percussive band lol

  • :D

    fuck

  • Wow!!! two TD20 modules plus triggers!!! I wonder how much it will cost.

  • Should just call it the "Thomas Lang electric drum set."

  • that is fuckin insane, how many brains does this guy have, one for each limb apparently.

  • the pedals look so cool when he does those ostinatos

  • Shure he's a teqnical monster...

but musically he's not that good...

and btw elestric drums DO sound fake.

    Bad.

  • @EILIVdrummer probably because hes not playin to music dumbass

  • @brendentaylor12345

No I know, but a solo should have a sense og context and groove...

this is just layers of layers with polorythms and rudiments!

  • IMO, electric kits are awesome for practice, especially if you live in an apartment, but I will always prefer acoustic kits for recording or live gigs.

  • This is just plain AMAZING. Straight up win. So dynamic and creative.

  • oh, still watching it, he has 10 pedals; I stand corrected.

Can you say "HOLY S, , , yea I thats right.

  • I can't believe the rhythm between 6 foot pedals that he keeps with the off beats with the sticks. Bet you he can't sing to that. ha ha.

    Amazing drummer, Amazing

  • @wolves180 He probably can.

  • If only he connect it to Metal Foundry.

  • I like how he mostly plays on electronic drums, it's NIFTY. Haha

  • yeah, that was pretty cool, but can u do that while launching a satellite into orbit, and performing open heat surgery, in the dark? seriously though. without sarcasm id b speechless. ur awesome monsieur.

  • wonderful and whimsical performing

  • Amazing comments! Lang's playing (typically) is some of the most incredible independence ever seen in drumming and most comments concern pejorative views on the sound (subjective envy-based prejudice!). It's like the girly selection of a car based on its colour and the pattern of it's fur-covered seats - totally ignoring the performance etc. Great drumming pundits, huh?

  • Orgasm at 1:58

  • how on earth is this messy...? yea the sounds suck, but hes pretty damn spot on

hes doing polyrythms so some of it sounds off but its not.

  • this man is crazy!

  • snare drum emulation is cool, tom toms are shit!!! Cymbals very nice

  • Saint Nicholas I ask You for the gift

  • how are some pedals going without him hitting them...?

  • He actually plays 2 pedals with one foot ...he uses the heel and toe technique..

  • in his first dvd he explains 3 or 4 techniques on how to use multiple pedals with one foot

  • no it's just the springs that keep them moving

  • not a big fan of electronic drums. Sound range is horrible, but he's good nonetheless.

  • MORE COWBELL!!! :P aha

  • they can sound a lot better (the kits), i love Lang's co-ordination!

  • and the fun fact is that this electronic sounds extremely bad! - can see the point in using this, besides if you're living in a apartment where you can't play loud with real drums!

  • This shit is insane

  • ... Why is he playing on the preset kits...? Get an interface and play through DFH. Why doesn't Roland advertise the V-Drums capability to do this? They seriously need to update their samples; DFH puts these sounds to shame. V-Drums are ridiculously over-priced for the quality of sound that comes with the module.

  • that looks fricked.

  • the one major downfall to the TD-20's is the lack of pads you can have per one module. You obviously need 2 for that kit, and Im sure that Thomas Lang setup goes for well over 15,000 USD.

  • you can put 12 pads on it

  • Thomas may appear to be a heavy hitter, and he can hit heavy. But he can articulate his sticks so well, that he can extract speed from rebound, not sheer force. His speed is also superlative, and speed=power. In some of the roland videos, you can tell he overspeeds the triggers ability to pick up. But again, he is all about technique and does not bludgeon as much as you'd think.

  • lol the set is so huge he needs 3 modules

    best drummer in the world

  • 2 modules.. my bad

  • i tink he's not human.

  • This guy is ambidextrous! That is the key to his magic on the drums...........trust me. Very gifted dude!

  • The sad thing is, it seems like he just jumped on the raw kit. Likely they didn't tune the drums to sound like drums because they had to spend a lot of time making sure they don't cross trigger(or trigger each other).

  • Think about what you said; "he just jumped on the raw kit?" Are you serious? That is WAY beyond a "raw kit" for him to quickly switch between the specific kits he used, not to mention that one module is all cymbals and the other all drums. There was definitely time involved to set that up. Granted, they are electronic sounding, but I think that was his point in this demonstration. Cross triggering can be easily controlled by a stable rack, playing gently, and easy adjustments.

  • Do you even own a decent electric kit?

  • I have been playing a Roland TD-10 kit for about seven years at church.

  • Dude he's playing a TD20 with PD105's and PD125's.. Cross-talk is not an issue..

  • Are you kidding me, Thomas is a heavy hitter, hes playing those drums like he would an acoustic kit for the most part.

  • It shouldn't matter when it's set up right, the whole point of V-Drums is to match the feel of a real drum (although they fall a touch short IMO). He's supposed to be playing them the way he would play an acoustic kit - that's the whole point. I'm not saying I disagree with you saying the drums sound crappy, the stock kits in the TD20 are poop, especially when you consider the capabilities the module. Roland are selling their own product short with a half-assed effort on the preset kits..

  • source1zero. I get what your saying but. .

    1) Even 'real' kits cross talk, and special adjustments have to be made. LOL

    2) The thing is, Thomas is required to play on the 'raw' kit sounds is because roland doesn't want to give its customer the 'wrong idea'. If they showed what those kits could really do with custom tunning etc. . They would have to tack on a couple grand to include all the extra items(speakers/amps, expansion card, etc. . ).

  • To have such a technical variation on each one of your limbs like that is amazing

  • I have the old TD20 (TD10), and i think that if i practiced every day of my life for 8 hours straight i may get close to having the ability of a bead of thomas langs sweat!!!!!!!

  • So much energy.. He´s absolutly fantastic! Legend!!

  • That was.... messy.

  • he is absolutely fucking disgusting!!!

  • he´s a monster!!

  • what is the song from 3:38 on i like it, have heard it in other clips as well

  • Incredible, incredible, incredible drummers :O

Now, anybody said that electronic kit sucks, they should watch this. Even Thomas Lang, greatest drummer in history, likes e drums.

  • yeah but if you want to get a good kit for like 3-4000 dollars you're not going to as much as you can from the acoustic.

  • true, that's too bad.Electric still too expensive. Probably we have to wait for 10 years later.lol.And from what I know, only Roland and Yamaha are the top line brand.

Every drummer will prefer acoustic, including me. But I won't underestimate electric kit.

  • the kit is only as good as the player friend ;)

  • That's right. Amazing drummer like him chooses td20. It must be such a great kit.

  • @ransisua. My thoughts excatly. I agree with everything you have said. Thomas Lang is one outstanding player and his foot work leaves most drummers chokeing in his dust. Good call myd friend.
