Yoga is incredibly good for high blood pressure. You know if a person merely reduces their blood pressure by 10 points, it lowers their chance of having a heart attack by 50%.
I sell an online guide to help people cure their high blood pressure at highbloodpressurecures.info. I should write a section on yoga and link some of your videos for my customers who can't make it to a class.
Any forward bending yoga posture (2nd and 3rd) must not attempt by any high blood pressure patient . As far I know the Snake Posture is the best yoga posture for high BP. It helps to control the activity of adrenal gland which interns controls BP
not sure if this works for everyone. i love yoga, and was doing yoga dvd's.
i got diagnosed with high blood pressure, and started doing this routine figuring it would help. well it helped!! helped me have a stroke!! of course i can't blame it on
these exercises, but be careful if you have high blood pressure. experiment
with postures, especially any that give you a head rush.
Good post. I must say I was quite supprised to see a number of inverse pose in this video. Any pose where the head is lower than the legs/hips is probably best not attempted whilst you have hgh blood pressure. The resting pose where you lie on your back with your limbs spread lke a star, and a good standing pose coupled with concentration of deep breathing would seem to me to be a lot safer and a lot better.
Look for videos that explain stillness and breathing.
I'm wondering what it is about the specific exercises that helps high blood pressure. Also, Esther, I detect a Dutch accent, were these yoga exercises developed in the Netherlands?
Thank you for this helpful lesson. I'm wondering if this sequence can be done more than once a day. If do it a couple times a day or before bed is there any harm?
yoga is not exercise, it is one kind of peace and body control, but u people calling it as exercise. i am from india but i didnt yoga as exercise. u should realize from heart and brain
I really am so grateful to Esther for this video. Thanks, Esther. It's a wonderful gift for us hypertensive folks. I notice some people have said it's not a good idea to put the head below the heart. Does anybody know more about this? How important is that? Should I ask my doctor, or just try it and see how it goes?
It is a known fact that if you have high blood pressure you DO NOT lower your head below your heart! So Esther I don't know where you got your training but I suggest you research this before you tell people with high blood pressure to lower their heads below their heart!
@crimn , Hi the reason you should not lower your head below you heart is because this puts more pressure on your heart and that's the last thing you need when you have high BP. Inversons are therefore not a good idea. There are plenty of asanas you can do the have the same benefits. Best to be safe.
I am suffering with High Blod Pressure and every morning I get on the computer and do the exercises - It is very helpful - Thank you for putting such videos out
I hate to be a nay sayer but when does drugs become medication? A PBS show stated that 90% of the cost goes to advertising and promotion! Did you ever read the side effects? They can kill you! Most Drs. have investment in drug companies. Hear that KACHING? That you/me/Uncle Sam paying the Drs. so they can have a house in NY, Hawaii, FL and et al. A hospital is a insane assilum and you are held captive. You cannot leave without the psychiatrist permission and they take everything. Stress?
I would really suggest finding a pregnancy yoga class, and tell your teacher about the high blood pressure. This particular sequence is not made for when your pregnant!
But it would be great for you to meditate and do relaxation techniques, gentle stretches, really do yourself a favor and find a class!! And all the best of course..
@yogatic I tried your exercises for just 2 days and it seem to reduce my systolic pressure (higher number) by almost 20 points, however the diastolic (lower) number remains high and my doctor had said before that he was more concerned about that number. Any information on if there is another exercise I could do to help the lower number or over longer period of time, that number will improve as well. Thanks, great video!
@autiepattyann Hi autiepattyann, Yes I have continued but not on a regular schedule that I wished I could train myself to do but I do them when I remember and I feel way better than before. I have also lost 13 lbs since then so I don't know which is doing the trick. I haven't checked my bp since then because the machines at the super market seemed to be unreliable. I know for sure next time I visit the doctor. Let you know then. Thanks,
I really love this video, but I have an injury to my left knee. Some of the things might be too difficult because of the pain, like especially the "Child's Pose" part.
I love this video, though, and it's very nice of you to put these instructions on You Tube. It's difficult for me to get out of the house.
I did moderate exercise 3-4 times a week and I ate healthy but was not overly watching my diet...by the way I had my blood pressure checked a few weeks ago it was 100/60 ....that was after a 4 day hike on the West Coast Trail and eating high fiber instant food.
Why would these postures help blood pressure?
