hey man, I'm doing a project at the moment that requires me to use a kinect as a basic midi controller. I have a pretty decent knowledge of ableton but just for production, so using max for live (or anything you advise), how easy is it to get kinect to communicate with live? if you have any advice it would be much appreciated.
@mfcstevenson Hey dude, I've recently bought Max for Live but haven't had a chance to play with it yet. If you do a google for +kinect +"max for live" you'll see other people that have successfully gotten the 2 to talk together. Alternatively you can still use the Kinect as a MIDI controller withour Max for Live by using something like KMIDIC. Send me an email at benxtan [at] gmail.com and I'll help you out. Let me know what OS you are running.
@diggler308 Hmm...I reckon yes if you have something like the MAudio MidAir - Wireless MIDI Transmitter and Receiver System. Do you have something like that?
Are those flexible transparent AMOLED glasses with built-in augmented reality filters that alters your vision of reality so that you walk around in the world playing video games in real life? lol
I think most programmers just ignore latency just now in their coding since it will be elminated fairly soon. It was the same issue with midi latency which will be overcome just the same for video. Then you will see a lot of very cool webcam bands popping up!
Hi. From the video, it seems like the latency is much smaller than with the Kinect game demos. Do you find it acceptable for your music performance? Also, do you think the exhibited latency with games is due to more complex analysis occurring before the image is displayed, or is the open driver somehow superior to the X-Box one?
@dnjlmlsvc I cheated a bit, but there are much better ways to get better performance. I knocked this up very quickly to get it out there fast. I would suggest you check out the good work that has been done with the libfreenect library, and the many options you have with that. More so, using it with the Open Frameworks library.
I've also heard that the software for Dance Central is very good compared to the other game demos. I haven't tried Dance Central myself.
@sidgeaberration This was hacked together in less than 2 hours. The latest version does the C major scale. Final version will be fully configurable. Hey, I'm doing this for free, don't complain! :)
I don't think the Kinect is awesome enough to track each finger. But we shall see what advancements occur in the future!

@MatsKaarbo I wish! Also, I pretty much see the world I live in as a video game. Art imitates life imitates art.
Gamification applied to reality. +1 Nerdiness.

@MatsKaarbo Thanks :)
No brand glasses bought from Harajuku, Japan aka The City of the Fashion of the Future, heheh.
I have many good memories from my holidays in Japan. I hope things get better for them soon.

@svenisnumb Epic! I would love to spend a holiday in Japan myself.
Yes, I too hope for a quick recovery from the tragedy that has been brought upon them.
