  • This video went viral on Ulaanbaatar

  • Sorry, posted the video in video comments

  • Hi, interesting job !

I've made a new software called MappInect that sends OSC & MIDI via custom mappings, check it out there :

  • Dude you got a theremin there!

  • hey man, I'm doing a project at the moment that requires me to use a kinect as a basic midi controller. I have a pretty decent knowledge of ableton but just for production, so using max for live (or anything you advise), how easy is it to get kinect to communicate with live? if you have any advice it would be much appreciated.

  • @mfcstevenson Hey dude, I've recently bought Max for Live but haven't had a chance to play with it yet. If you do a google for +kinect +"max for live" you'll see other people that have successfully gotten the 2 to talk together. Alternatively you can still use the Kinect as a MIDI controller withour Max for Live by using something like KMIDIC. Send me an email at benxtan [at] gmail.com and I'll help you out. Let me know what OS you are running.

  • nice is it possible to transmit midi signals CC messages through 2.4 Ghz wireless controllers.

  • @diggler308 Hmm...I reckon yes if you have something like the MAudio MidAir - Wireless MIDI Transmitter and Receiver System. Do you have something like that?

  • Are those flexible transparent AMOLED glasses with built-in augmented reality filters that alters your vision of reality so that you walk around in the world playing video games in real life? lol

  • @MatsKaarbo I wish! Also, I pretty much see the world I live in as a video game. Art imitates life imitates art.

Gamification applied to reality. +1 Nerdiness.

  • @svenisnumb That's a great philosophy! Cool video by the way...and what glasses are those?

    WINNING!

  • @MatsKaarbo Thanks :)

No brand glasses bought from Harajuku, Japan aka The City of the Fashion of the Future, heheh.

I have many good memories from my holidays in Japan. I hope things get better for them soon.

  • @svenisnumb Epic! I would love to spend a holiday in Japan myself.

Yes, I too hope for a quick recovery from the tragedy that has been brought upon them.

  • Awesome stuff dude. Keep on grinning while you pick'em...;-)

  • I think most programmers just ignore latency just now in their coding since it will be elminated fairly soon. It was the same issue with midi latency which will be overcome just the same for video. Then you will see a lot of very cool webcam bands popping up!

  • Hi. From the video, it seems like the latency is much smaller than with the Kinect game demos. Do you find it acceptable for your music performance? Also, do you think the exhibited latency with games is due to more complex analysis occurring before the image is displayed, or is the open driver somehow superior to the X-Box one?

  • @dnjlmlsvc I cheated a bit, but there are much better ways to get better performance. I knocked this up very quickly to get it out there fast. I would suggest you check out the good work that has been done with the libfreenect library, and the many options you have with that. More so, using it with the Open Frameworks library.

I've also heard that the software for Dance Central is very good compared to the other game demos. I haven't tried Dance Central myself.

  • @svenisnumb thanks, I'll check those out ;)

  • rad intro and outro too

  • @MEKON17 Glad you like it =)

  • are you filipino?

  • @steamh4x0r Nope! But I know a handful of them :)

  • it's a shame it just sounds chromatically. great idea though. can you get it to track each finger? that would be cool like a virtual piano...........

  • @sidgeaberration This was hacked together in less than 2 hours. The latest version does the C major scale. Final version will be fully configurable. Hey, I'm doing this for free, don't complain! :)

I don't think the Kinect is awesome enough to track each finger. But we shall see what advancements occur in the future!

  • I want your glasses !!!! Where you find it ????

  • @danceman16 Secret...but I'm trying to find a sauce :)

  • Love Glasses!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!<3<3

  • Nice glasses. Makes you look like you're from sci-fi movie or something.

  • @h4ku89 I *am* from a sci-fi movie or something :)

  • where did you get those future glasses? ;)

    cool idea btw..

  • @tomfalkon The future :)

  • Comment removed

  • get laid much?

  • can you put a filter on it so it only plays notes on a selected scale?

  • @yoboss1049 Already did that today!

but want to do more before I release it :)

  • @yoboss1049 Here it is youtube.com/watch?v=fCQwNLKJlCU

  • Theramin next. haha

  • Your arm sounds weird..

  • @dangerswap You should hear my other arm...

  • You should totally make a theremin simulator with this

  • @NickShortsAlt its on my todo list :)

  • super cool glasses hahaha

  • @CyPhErJuS yeah, what kind of glasses are those? brand / model?

  • @CyPhErJuS yeah, what kind of glasses are those? brand / model?

  • @svenisnumb hey i love the glasses, where did you get them from? what brand / model? thx!

  • @CyPhErJuS I came here just to post the same thing xD

  • @CyPhErJuS yeah where did u get them? great vid

  • Awesome job on the interface. Thanks for doing that. Can't wait to try it. :)

    Keep up the great works!

  • @ThomasGrillo New code coming soon. Improved efficiency a little but last night :)

  • @svenisnumb Cool! I'll certainly check it out as soon as I have a kinect. :)

  • Sweet! Congratulations on being the first to do this. Looking forward to seeing how this develops. Thanks for sharing out your source code too.

  • @ThereminWorld Thanks guys!

  • You should do the Bill and Ted finger guitar solo.

  • this is the new theremin

  • app crashed because CLNUIDevice.dll was missing, but now it's working fine !

that's a nice toy to play with with, thank you :)

  • @alx5962 Oh cool. How did you fix it?

  • @svenisnumb I just put CLNUIDevice.dll with the debug exe :)

  • great work, could you share the compiled binaries for this project please ?

  • @alx5962 h ttp://benxtan.com/temp/pmidickinect.zip

Theres an exe in there that you should be able to run.

    Only tested on Windows 7.

Let me know if theres any issues.

  • It's Yoji Biomehanika!
