We cannot win in Afghanistan, because there is nothing to be won. Our fight is with Al Qaeda, not the Taliban. If we defeat every Talib and AQ in Afghanistan, and there are still AQ in Syria, Yemen, Somalia, etc... how much safer is the US? Still just an airplane ride away from them. Sure, we need to fight the enemy, but we can't spend 10 years and a $1T+ on each country where AQ is hiding. However, every time Obama announces a withdrawal from Afghanistan, McCain ridicules him for it. Pointless.

All this is getting way too expensive for the taxpayer. We should stop paying the soldiers over there and not bring them back to the country they have let down. After battlefield experience it will be impossible to reintegrate them into normal, civilian society. It's best for all if they stay where they are.

This vid shows the problem with our tactics in fighting the war. Those hillsides should be pounded by artillery and airstrikes 24/7. Then, the ground troops move through and kill every single insurgent. What does our tactic call for? They sit in the base and take fire all freakin' day long.

What Marine Corps unit is this, are they some type of recon? Just asking due to the fact that they have no camo cover on their kevlars. I usually associate (perhapd wrongly) that with some sort of Special Operations (Rangers, Force Recon, Green Berets, etc.).

@1IIIIIIIIII1 Bradley Manning deserves the death penalty. Much of what he released aided the enemy. He released specific movement orders, and much more information. My wife's and my son's personal information was released on a set of personnel orders that he released. He was indiscriminate in what he released. He was negligent in his duty and put Soldier needlessly at risk. It would be one thing if he released something mind-blowing...but he didn't. He just loaded a ton of stuff up and sent it.

It is unbelievable that after 50 years since Vietnam the US has not find a way to efficiently counter guerrillas. In my opinion the problem is that the armed forces are trying to make everyone happy. These guys have the best military training, the best equipment, the best support in the world. They need to be more brutal, less conventional... Deny them cover set every tree on that hill on fire with napalm, and then we can see if the Talibans will still have balls to fire on their base.

What i meant was that they should place their bases on higher ground where they are the ones in advantage over the Taliban & not the other way around So that not only they secure their bases but also provide security to villages nearby.

The Taliban will shoot from the Villages in the Valleys at your Outpost on the High ground. The Taliban are causing very little collateral damage. But you, shooting from the high positions into the Village, you cause massive collateral damage. You can not win the Hearts and minds your way...
@TheSensismoker Well... its a matter of tactical advantage. If US/Nato forces place their bases on low grounds...they have a hard time securing their own bases & they get attacked all the time. That way they cant even secure their own bases, let alone the villages. But if they were placed on higher grounds over looking nearby villages...then in that way the will better provide security not only for their bases but also to the villages & Taliban will also have a hard time attacking them.

@0515524847 It is the most effective tactic. Especially considering the terrain and supply routes. Not to mention that you limit avenues of approach in this manner and can find easier manners to support your post should resupply not happen. It's very, very sound strategy. It may seem counter-intuitive, but you can build the appropriate defenses. You can't build the other factors.

@mahlyenkidyavol223 An AK-47 is accurate at about 300 at full auto and 400 to 450 burst so its a great weapon. Its not the capability of the gun its the fact that they cannot aim...and if they were using M16s then they'd be fucked because they don't properly maintain their weapons so they would jam alot more (the AK almost never jams)...so it would actuallly be better. Cuz like i said doesn't matter if they have a more accurate weapon if they don't know how to shoot accurately....
@whiskylimped The AK47 is NOT a 300m accurate weapon. You would know that if you actually shot guns. 200m is a stretch for an accurate shot. The M4A1 is a 300m weapon.
@THEKINGOFMETROPOLIS M4A1 is 500m accurate for a point target and 600m accurate for an area target. You can look it up if you would like.....but you obviously have no idea what you're talking about so just google it or something...realize how wrong you are and don't even bother replying.
@whiskylimped Um yeah the M16 with a 20 inch barrel is a 500m accurate weapon. The M4 has a 14.5 inch barrel, hence a 300m effective range. Point targeting is not accurate shots its spraying an area. We cannot win in Afghanistan, because there is nothing to be won. Our fight is with Al Qaeda, not the Taliban. If we defeat every Talib and AQ in Afghanistan, and there are still AQ in Syria, Yemen, Somalia, etc... how much safer is the US? Still just an airplane ride away from them. Sure, we need to fight the enemy, but we can't spend 10 years and a $1T+ on each country where AQ is hiding. However, every time Obama announces a withdrawal from Afghanistan, McCain ridicules him for it. Pointless.

After battlefield experience it will be impossible to reintegrate them into normal, civilian society. It's best for all if they stay where they are.

My wife's and my son's personal information was released on a set of personnel orders that he released. He was indiscriminate in what he released. He was negligent in his duty and put Soldier needlessly at risk. It would be one thing if he released something mind-blowing...but he didn't. He just loaded a ton of stuff up and sent it.

It is unbelievable that after 50 years since Vietnam the US has not find a way to efficiently counter guerrillas. In my opinion the problem is that the armed forces are trying to make everyone happy. These guys have the best military training, the best equipment, the best support in the world. They need to be more brutal, less conventional... Deny them cover set every tree on that hill on fire with napalm, and then we can see if the Talibans will still have balls to fire on their base.

What i meant was that they should place their bases on higher ground where they are the ones in advantage over the Taliban & not the other way around So that not only they secure their bases but also provide security to villages nearby.

The Taliban will shoot from the Villages in the Valleys at your Outpost on the High ground. The Taliban are causing very little collateral damage. But you, shooting from the high positions into the Village, you cause massive collateral damage. You can not win the Hearts and minds your way...

@TheSensismoker Well... its a matter of tactical advantage. If US/Nato forces place their bases on low grounds...they have a hard time securing their own bases & they get attacked all the time. That way they cant even secure their own bases, let alone the villages. But if they were placed on higher grounds over looking nearby villages...then in that way the will better provide security not only for their bases but also to the villages & Taliban will also have a hard time attacking them.

@0515524847 It is the most effective tactic. Especially considering the terrain and supply routes. Not to mention that you limit avenues of approach in this manner and can find easier manners to support your post should resupply not happen. It's very, very sound strategy. It may seem counter-intuitive, but you can build the appropriate defenses. You can't build the other factors.

@mahlyenkidyavol223 An AK-47 is accurate at about 300 at full auto and 400 to 450 burst so its a great weapon. Its not the capability of the gun its the fact that they cannot aim...and if they were using M16s then they'd be fucked because they don't properly maintain their weapons so they would jam alot more (the AK almost never jams)...so it would actuallly be better. Cuz like i said doesn't matter if they have a more accurate weapon if they don't know how to shoot accurately....

@whiskylimped The AK47 is NOT a 300m accurate weapon. You would know that if you actually shot guns. 200m is a stretch for an accurate shot. The M4A1 is a 300m weapon.

@whiskylimped Um yeah the M16 with a 20 inch barrel is a 500m accurate weapon. The M4 has a 14.5 inch barrel, hence a 300m effective range. Point targeting is not accurate shots its spraying an area. I know exactly what I'm talking about because I own an AR-15. You play video games and watch youtube videos and you think you have some sort of gun knowledge. Seriously go shoot and then write stupid shit on youtube.
