I plan to visit japan somtime in my life, and try all the EXOTIC foods! :) And yes, see the HORNETS of ALL HORNETS! I would not piss THOES guys off like I try to do to our very own here! I may not live to see it. ;)
Were those "Asian Giant Hornets"? People are usually afraid of snakes and spiders, I HATE wasps. And Japan has the biggest of them all.. and I plan to go there. Uh oh.
wats up kev, have you ever gotten lost or how do you plan your hikes or walks or anyhting reall ythat would require you to know some sort of direction ?
I haven't gotten lost yet. In Kobe, behind Shin Kobe station, there are some very clearly marked trails. I'm not a "hardcore" hiker so I haven't wandered off the beaten path too much. there are a lot of amazing trails around where i live!
Yeah!! People have been sending me some pictures! I do miss Ottawa, but I don't miss the weather. AND...i really miss Tim Horton's breakfast sandwiches!! hehe
You seem like all ready for marathon. I know I'm gonna have a great time on my marathon, too. I'm very excited about it now. Are you gonna take any power bar or gel something while running? I think I should take some of those on the way. I've already bought some power gel. Dehydration react? Hyponatremia? I did it once about 3 weeks ago. That was BAAAAAAAAD!! I don't want it happens to me any more.
Hey there. I've been trying different things on my long runs and I will DEFINITELY bring some gel. I personally like Carbo Shotz. They work well for me and taste pretty good. I'm brining 3 of them. I'm also brining a pack of Sports Beans. They are carbohydrate jelly beans made by Jelly Bellies. They are filled with carbs and sugar. I'm not worried about hyponatremia, but dehydration is sometimes a problem. I have an Asics water bottle with a special hand grip....I may take it.
Yeah...it really seems that way. Most people have basically flocked from the country to the cities. It's actually a huge problem with the agricultural sector since most younger Japanese want little to do with the "boring" life of the country. Many choose the more "exciting" opportunities that cities have to offer.
Gyozo absolutely rocks! Actually, last night on NHK there wa a special about guys exterminating those hornets. A cameraman was stung in the chest....looked like he was stabbed with a knife!! scary things....I think only 3 or 5 of them can wipe out an entire bee colony!
Some gyoza and coffee?! Never in a million years will I be able to come up with that pairing. How "Canadian" of you! But then, this morning I had a bagel w/ cream cheese and some miso-shiru for breakfast. So, there!
It was a cool spot. Might be a little hard to get to in the Winter though....I suppose you'd need to own a truck! Would be peaceful, that's for sure:)
No time goal set. It is my first marathon so I just want to finish running. I'm scared of hitting "the wall." I've trained a lot though and have been eating well...I think I'll be ok. After this first one, then I'll start setting some time goals :)
I'm running in Osaka next week. the Osaka Yodogawa marathon. A small one by marathon standards....about 6, 000 runners in both the full and half marathons. I'm excited:)
That looked like a really good time. In Japanese forests... are there still these little plants the fold up when you touch them? I remember playing with them anytime we went into any wooded areas as a kid.
So, how may beers did you have after you went over and introduced yourself to the campers? And why didn't you tape any of it? : )
Nice Video, the music, content, length and everything were spot on. Good luck next week, hope you finish well. I work with a marathoner/triathelete. CRAZY!!
It was nice. Japanese forests are really great. I honestly need to get out more and explore some other spots too!
I would have loved to have introduced myself to the campers and had a beer with them, but for the final month of my training, I have stayed away from all beer/alcohol :( hehe....better my chances of finishing the marathon! I'll have a cold one or two right after the marathon though :)
Eating a pack of gyozas in the beautiful nature is cool! I'll try it. Thank you for your nice video!

I'm pretty scared of them too. Normally, you only find them in the forest...I like hiking though!!! They are big and mean!

Very nice tour, thanks! It's a beautiful place. It looks like the cities are crowded and the countryside abandoned!

Dang, I need to get out more. Western Tokyo has some seriously good mountains and hiking trails, but I haven't been for what, five or six years.

For sure. Hiking is a nice way to wind down and forget about the "rat race" for a few hours. Mind you....Kobe really isn't much of a rat race!

It was a bizarre combination, but a delicious one....almost as "Canadian" as tofu and maple syrup!!! hehe

I wouldn't mind living somewhere secluded like that. But good luck with the marathon.

I grew up in a place secluded like that in hawaii. Lived in pretty big cities since and i can't stand it.

I grew up in a small town too...sometimes big city life can be a little stressful for me too!

I was actually thinking that at one point! I suppose there's a chance I could do that at any time....so, yes, I will be careful! Thanks
