  • Despite some clarifications, there's still a bit of mystery surrounding this video. This is clearly Caballe performing. She is lip synching to her own voice, as used to be the tradition in opera movies. This is from the pre-recorded Leinsdorf RCA album from 1968 according to one source. Some are saying this is not a full movie but just a lavish segment in a documentary film of Spanish opera singers. Whatever this is, the set design and costumes and actors are great! This is the perfect Salome

  • I can't believe this is Caballe . She is a great Wagnerian /Straussian. I had no idea she was so strong in this way.Geese is there anything she can't do? Mozart? Not the Countess .Has she recorded dove sono? This Salome is beyond belief!!!

  • @lovesGenet You wrote this 3 months ago. Surely you know by now that Caballe did in fact sing the Countess in Le Nozze Di Figaro! She sang it on stage in her career. There is a recording available on Amazon.com. Caballe wassimilar to Maria Callas in greatness. She sang Norma, Turandot, Isolde, Tosca, Aida, and much more. No one thought she would do all that when she debuted humbly as Marguerite in Faust!

  • No one wrote better for the female human voice than Richard Strauss.

  • it's just an "offenbarung" for me

Infiniment merci ! MERCI MERCI MERCIII AV

  • Is this a movie or a live performance? Do you know when it was made and who are the conductor, the other singers and which orchestra played?

  • This is a moovie, the sondtrack from recording RCA Salome 1968

  • Where can I find a copy of this movie ? Or the soundtrack of thi movie ?

  • @MastersoftheOpera The sondtrack is come from the complete recording RCA 1968 under Leinsdorf

  • I really enjoy her Salome and to me, she's as good as the best of them - Ljuba Welitsch, Birgit Nilsson, Leonie Rysanek, etc...I also like Jessye Norman's interpretation..but Caballe is very into the role...and she can sing the living daylights out of this role...it was her best role and the one she liked doing the most...here she is especially brilliant...they have to capture this on recording or DVD...

  • Though Madame Caballe was not known to have superb acting skills, I must say that this is the most chilling interpretation of Salome that I have seen; her portrayal of the Princess lust for the dead Jokanaan was just so depraved and terrifying. Also I am amazed at how she was able to tackle such a taxing role and as always her singing is flawless. I just wish that Callas sang this role though.

  • Sorprendentemente buena.

  • My God,this is simply sensational!

Will someone please release this on DVD immediately.

  • I agree; meanwhile you can download it via the internet tool named "e-mule".

  • I know it seems like a paradox, but Caballe' was a great Salome, and she said many times that it was her favorite role. She also did a beautiful Strauss Ariadne Auf Naxos.

  • This looks like part of the Series Spaniard Operatic Stars. So don't get your juices going. The whole thing does not exist in this production. This is just this segment.

Onegin, what else was recorded on this?

  • Also was recorded Forza, Devereux, Norma and a interview, all posted

  • Oh, my God!!!

    Is this possible?

    She's AMAZING! Brava!

  • She is simply unbelievable! Her voice is just as at home in the Germanic operas as it is in the Italian! Just incredible, incredible, incredible!!!!!! She is every bit as good as Nilsson, and in some aspects, better. (Birgit forgive me, you're still a goddess!)

  • "...a heavy singer roll on the floor, looking like she can't get up": Oh! How brilliant, polite and intelligent appreciation from you!

  • Blah, blah, blah! "Who's brilliant now?": Can I get your books at 'Amazon'?

Caballé supera a Nilsson en 'Turandot', 'Tristan und Isolde', 'Salome' and whatever the role...

  • Thank you, I love some of the latest tunes from that shitty B.S. And all the transvestite stuff is based upon and dedicated to the greatest of them all: Birgit Nilsson!

  • I can't stop laughing at your comments; the difference between Nilsson and RuPaul? The later looks like a real woman.

  • A "horrid" profile 20 thousand times more interesting and visitted than yours and more than 2 hundred suscribing-worthy; what can you offer, apart from your dismissing, unpolite and whinning talk? Pest!

  • You know it's ironic...because I work as a psiquiatrist and I can offer you an internship at Hospital Universitario La Paz

de Madrid, not as a dancer but as a 'rhtf' (really hard to find) case of mentally illed person.

  • A real and succesful artist-rep works 24h/day for her/his clients and wouldn't spend time replaying in some board with such luck of ellegance and style.

  • Look it up in the DSM-IV. Hopefully at this point in the "discussion", you've proven yourself a fake and liar - get the help you need, or at least discontinue involving yourself in areas that you have no knowledge of. Of course you have the option to continue, but I've got work to do

  • I have nothing to say to you because I pity you, but part of my work is to analyze the behaviour of the mentally illed like you and I wonder what your client might think if he knew what's going on with his rep's brain; maybe if you became a two-dollar hooker transvestite you'll find peace at last!

  • "but I've got work to do " that's your problem, so go ahead and work! That's better than saying mean things about heavy people 1 million more talented than you who can perform rollin on floor or however thay want!

  • That's the stupidest lines I've ever read

  • My gosh! You telling me you're looking for drugs on the net? How disgusting! It doesn't take a psiquiatrist to know that you're a sucking-dick starving mental illed who has vissions(what did I delete!!?) and more things that I won't describe because it's not worhty and I'm really tired because I DO work. And you?

  • If you think drugs can cure your illness then your fucked! Tell me the breaking points in your life and that would be the beggining of a real therapy...I can't help it, I love to analyze and trying to help deranged people (like you! hahaha!)(Although working "pro-bono" is not very exciting)

  • Here comes that Nijinsky wannabe sissy-dancer again who pretends to be a William Morris agent and ended up promoting 3º division beauty contests. First "stupid" and then "symphaty (towards me)" is such an incoherence...I would never get used to stupidity, so sure you meant you feel stupid feeling sympathy towards me; riddle got solved.

  • "I am and remain a psychologically sound person" If that were your case, you wouldn't need to tell; that proves your insecurity, immaturity and the harm that my words did to you.

  • I NEVER said I was a model... Here comes the brilliant unemployed sissy-dancer (who dreams to rep Brad Pitt to get suck him)again, hahaha!!

  • "there are 20,000 people who are equally as vulgar as you" In fact I've found the most vulgar in you yourself (you checked my profile, so you became one of my "vulgar" visitors...hahaha!)

  • I beg your pardon?

  • I meant as Salome. After 15 years of season's tickets to the SF Opera, I'm very use to arrogant opera queens like you; you're just as tiresome in print as you are in person.

  • hahaha!!

  • Remember, at the time of Salome, the standard for femaly beauty was quite different from the anorexic/bulimic stick figures that are so popular today. Caballe could quite well have been considered extremely desireable and, well, just very sexy in her (Salome's) time. Anyone ever see a fertility goddes from antiquity? None ever resembles the walking cadavers that seem to be the standard today. And MY GOD the ways she sings it! And the acting is also superb. Brava! Brava! Brava!

  • The best Salome ever - all the Nilsson fans forgive me, but the two Salomes are incomparable, Nilsson has no emotions in her voice, everything is sung in the same way, maybe perefect technique, secure highs, but I have no feeling listening her. Whereas this Caballe recording and her acting too is unsurpassable!!! Brava Montserrat!!!!! True DIVA!!!

  • This production is the best! That ending is so perfectly captured! Caballe was a sensational Salome...

  • As much as I like Birgit Nilsson's 1960's studio recording and Lyeontyne Price's 1981 concert performance, this Caballe rendition gives me goose bumps every time I listen to it. The sheer beauty of her voice blows you away.

  • was that good ohh yess!!!! Thank you, Tank you, Thank you, totally wounderfoul Montserrat Caballe!!!!!!!

Gracias

  • the sound is from the studi recording, which i think is the best interpretation of this opera

  • this is without a doubt my favorite opera. Does that make me a little crazy? Beautifully sung and acted. I love how she gets right down and dirty with the floor. Virtuosic in all elements.

  • Absolutely!

  • I want this video! Where on earth did you get it? I have the sound only on CD. This is from around '72 in Vienna?

  • This is filmed at Parque Well by Antonio Gaudi from Barcelona, 1978

  • Who is the rest of the cast?

  • O.K. I'll be interested to read other comments about this. For me, it was a pleasant surprise; she acted well and sounded good.
