  • should i clean the gravels regularly? cos goldfish has a lot of shit. it will be a big trouble when there's plant.

  • The guidelines for Fancy Goldfish:

30 gallons (36 US gallons, 140 litres) for the first fish with an extra 10 gallons (12 US gallons, 45 litres) for each extra fish. The tank needs to have a minimum length of 3 feet to allow swimming room.

  • @ltb08uk I approve of this message! Space should always be considered, BUT! buying a filter the supersedes the requirements of your tank (20gal filter/10gal tank) will definitely keep you from buying an aquarium the size of Newport!

  • wow super

  • How often do you do water changes?

  • can i keep 1 goldfish and 1 bluegill 2gether in a 20 gallon? and can i keep a goldfish with a beta (not agressive) dwarf gramie cory guppie and bloodeyetetra?

  • @passionforpaintball no you cannot! first off goldfish are coldwater and will sometimes get health problems and heart gailur in warm tropical water a betta needs a temp around 75-82 degrees and a dwarf gourami to and dwarf gouramis and a family couzin of the betta and they WILL fight i tried that years ago and it did not work i ended up going away for an hour and coming back to see a dead gourami dont make that mistake you should do a little more research idk about the bloodeyetetra though

  • beautiful

  • wow it seems 2 people missed the like button.. btw beautiful fish

  • where did you get you awesome ryukins?

  • those are beast ryukins!!!!!!!! check out my 10 gallon goldfish tank!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The 10g per fish rule is so over-used. Is that 10g per baby fish, or 10g per 12 year old, 3 pound goldfish. I would bet there is a huge difference. Water care is of far greater importance. More gallons per fish just means fewer changes and less attention to conditions.

  • I loveeee ryukins I have two right now in a huge ass tank (55 G)...the one's name is Mr. Bubbles and the other one's name is Gobbles....

Fish are my loves...but I dont know how you video taped them so well, my camera sucks for videotaping...

  • @ltb08uk

It's not just messiness, i don't like to see fish jammed together. They get pretty big.

  • do undergravel filters work?

  • Yes they work very well after they get established. The best way to set one up is first put down a layer of filter pads. "Blue Bonded" Filter Pads come in a large sheet and can be cut to size. Put a good amount of gravel over this and don't disturb it. After the nitrogen cycle runs its course you will have a very efficient bio filter that needs no maintenance. Just make regular water changes of about 50% every 2 weeks.

  • @irelandiscool123 Yes they work very well as a bio filter especially when a large piece of filter pad material is put down before adding the gravel. I wouldn't use gravel without one.

  • The problem is your tank will eventually become crowded as the goldfish continue to grow. So the bigger the tank, the better.

  • how much was that 20 gallon?

  • They will grow into up to 5 pounds each. at age 10 they will have to be netted out with a normal net. not a little one!

and youll need a 55 gallon for those 2 once they get older!

  • @DARKWITCHCHERYLE

Well DARKWITCHCHERYLE is right; they will need bigger tanks when they're older.

DARKWITCHCHERYLE wasn't flaming so I see no need for that thumb down someone gave them. =/

  • Your fish are lovely! I have one Ryukin, Pete, and he's in a 10 gallon tank for the moment... I will get him a bigger home soon.

  • @pezliz how do you pronounce ryukin?

  • @slishslash100

    like this: ReeYouKin =]

    Think of latin vowels when pronouncing Japanese words. =] a=ah e=eh i=e o=o u=u

Or at least that's what I've picked up after years of watching anime and watching(and listening to of course) Japanese music videos with romanji subtitles. =]

  • ahh thank you!! :]

helps alot, so reeyoukin, lush name for a fish :P

    their so pretty :]

    thank again!

    xx

  • very good vid

  • this tank is barely sliding by if you have good filtration i have two of these guys in my 29 see for the first goldfish you need 20 gal. but for every extra goldfish you need only 10 gallon but i usally go with 15 gal per goldfish they need so much room because of all the poopoos they make

  • Well if your saying 10 gallons per goldfish why does this Book in this 9 gallon Biosphere i just bought say i can fit 3 Fancy Goldfish in it or 12 cold water minnow or 12 Small Tropical Fish.. it says to introduce 1 Goldfish Per montth for 3 months... This biosphere does seem way bigger then like a regualar 10 gallon tank that i have my musk Turtle in. but this biosphere is like Super advanced shit and its telling me 3 can fit in it.. Maybe you guys are wrong?

  • I wonder of the biosphere takes into account that the fish will grow. I've had gold fish for years and what everyone here is saying is very sound. I'd look up some books on keeping fresh water aquariums at the library to make sure dude.

  • They will tell you that so you buy their products, just like they say you can keep a goldfish in a fishbowl. Do your research and ask people who know about fish for advice, not a manual for a fancy looking fishtank. Do you even know how huge goldfish can get? Please do some research before you cram fish into a small tank.

  • 30 gallon at least...

  • Nice tank. You followed the rule of thumb of keeping 1 fancy goldfish per 10 gallons of water. I'm sure your fishes will be happier and live longer. :)

  • I have a 10 gallon tank

so if i get two fishes like this...thats too small?

:( what should i get for a 10 gallon tank

  • Get a black moor and a simple goldfish, and a 10 gallon tank will be ok

  • 10gal is much too small for 2 gold fish, once they start to grow (they grow HUGE, and fast). And you should never keep black moors, other impaired vision goldfish, or round bodied goldfish with regular ones, as the faster comets, commons etc will eat all the food before the fancies get a chance, and tend to bite slower fish's fins.

If you're giving advice on pet welfare, you should at least have a CLUE what you're talking about ;)

  • uhh yehh umm i have a ryukin and a blue oranda and 2 black moores and 1 comet my comet is bigger than the rest buht my comet dosent eat as much bkuz hez already fat a bit but i have them all in a 20 gallon is that good enough???

  • i got a couple of "regurler" gold fish, not feedres but not fancy and they live in a 10,i also of a couple of tropical and one cleaner. But i don't think thats big enough for those fish but i have 5'' gold fish plus 3 3 1/2 inch gold fish also XD but there aliive and healthy so maybe...

  • you could get the same fish but alot smaller because if they are in a small tank it can cause them to stress out more

  • What kind of plants are those? The simplistic look is really nice.

  • Is a 20 gallon tank big enough for 3 goldfish 2 of them are about 5 inches long and the other is around 4 inches?

  • Goldfish require about 10 gallons per fish. Looks like you'll be buying a bigger tank my friend! GGG

  • @virginiastorey

    There's only two fish. It's a 20 gallon. It's fine!

  • No - 20 gallons is only big enough for 1 goldfish - each needs about 15 gallons. 2 would really be pushing it, but if you ran two larger filters on it you might be able to slide by. Just make sure you cycle the tank first

  • I keep two goldfish in a 20 gallon aquarium. I have a power head that's listed for 30 gallon aquariums and a HOB filter with two sets of cartridges that's listed for 40 gallons. Changing my water once a week, I never get nitrogen spikes. my fish are always healthy and active.

  • The rule of thumb is just that, a rule of thumb. It's not an exact science. But generally it's what works best if you have standard filtration and change the water once or twice a week. If you keep more than 2 in a 20 gallon aquarium, you probably want to have at least 2 x 40 gal filter systems. That means that you should have 2 filters specified for a 40 gallon aquarium, equaling 80 gal of filtration.

you may also want to test your water quality every other day. but i'd go with 30 gal; easier.

  • dude u can sell them for 200$

  • wow. theyre big :D

  • They are so fat and cute. My goldfish are thin :(

  • Are they the same variety? Ryukins?

  • feed them more often.

  • omg how big do those fish get?

  • about 8 inches

  • Very pretty fish! I've got a black moor and a lionhead, I love em!

  • veryyy gooooodd¡¡¡

  • I bought them a new pump and it seems to be working fine. As far as the tank level being uneven. Its only about 1/4 of an inch difference between both sides (water leverl). Is that enough to cause any strain in the tank or the stand?

  • Good news on the new pump! 1/4 inch off in level isn't too bad, but if you can find something to wedge under the legs of your stand to raise up the one side, you'd be 100% safe. :)

  • i don't know if you would know this but i have a 24 gallon aquapod would i be able to keep 1 RYUKIN without having to upgrade

  • I'm sorry, but I'm not familiar with what an aquapod is. Is it like a 24 gallon tank? Can you provide a link to a description of an aquapod?

  • K - I found out what an aquapod is, and 1 ryukin should be ok. The general rule is 10 gallons of water per one ryukin. So you'll need to calculate a loss of water volume from tank decorations as tthey consume space within the tank, plus any other fish you plan to keep in the tank.

  • thank you

  • Always good to hear that they were moved =D

  • i have a 20 gallon tank with 7 black skirts, 1 beta, and a bottom feeder... however i don't think my pump is working. i just moved back into my mother's house and the tank is on a slight slant. i don't think thats the problem though. it looks like there is no air coming from one hose on the pump and hardly any air on the other hose. when we first set it up at my old address it was bubbling like crazy so i know there has to be something wrong.

  • You should buy a new pump ASAP because fish need the oxygen in the water or else they'll suffocate. Also, find a level surface for your aquarium. Water weighs over 8lbs per gallon, a 20 G tank's worth is 160 lbs, and if not evenly distributed could make your tank unstable.

  • very purdy

  • Thanky!

  • wow nice tank and beautiful fish!:)

do u have names for them??:)

  • Lucy and Ricky

  • I recently got a ryukin, he is by himself in a 20gl tank. He started off very white with small paches of red, but by moring he was almost all range. Did this ever happen to you?

  • Not THAT fast! LOL Lucy slowly lost her white and is now a beautiful solid red. But it took over a year.

  • are fish tanks ment to have uv lighting?

  • Ummmm....don't know. This tank is your basic 20G with standard flourescent tube lighting.

  • A little to small to house 2 gold fish for life...

  • I've moved them to a 50G planted bowfront aquarium in Oct '08. They were just getting too darn big for the 20G. I must make a new video soon!

  • iam getting one on thursday(:

  • we have 2 ryukin in a 10g and a small pleco too! they are happy, water quality is perfect and the male is starting to show the pimples for breeding.... exciting!

  • You've got such lovely goldfish there mate.

Is the white ryukin comes from the Sakura

    ryukin species?

  • hey pal when u clean ur gravel, does it kick up alot of dirt ect.. im thinking about getting one of these filters

  • Never tried the under gravel filter. How often do you change them out/clean them? Is it a pain in the ass? I have a fluval filter but the damn thing was faulty and sometimes leaked, so I tossed it out. It worked really good though! just a 40gal one alone with 4 goldfish in a 40gal tank easily kept the water clear alone.

Now with one gone (my demekin sucked out my ranchu's eyes and had to give the ranchu away) I have 3 in 30gal with 50 gallon filter that barely keeps water almost clear.

  • I vaccuum my tank gravel once a week with a syphon, removing and replacing between 25 to 30 % water. I don't find it a pain at all. I test the ph, nitrate, nitrite and ammonia levels also. In over 6 months my only fluctuation has been in ph, everything else at 0%. I'm using an Eheim 150 (for aquariums up to 35G) on my 20G aquarium. The water is always clear and free of debris.

  • Wow. I have a 30gal tank with 1 demekin and 2 ryukin, for some reason cannot keep water crystal clear. I have a top fin filter for a 30 gal tank and a top fin filter for a 20 gal tank in there. For some reason they just don't get the job done on max speed.

Had a fluval for up to 40gal and worked fine in the tank, but sometimes it leaked and made a huge mess (I bought it used) and ended up tossing it out. Now I need to find a good filter. I cannot believe these two cannot get it done

  • Oh yeah and good job on picking them out. Nice humps they got. I actually found a calico at a store like Petsmart with a nice large hump. But he lost his black on his body, so he just looks red/white now. Only has little black on his tail now.

  • how do under gravel filters work any thing i need too no ? i just bought a fish tank with one for some guppies

  • ill feed those fish to my turtle lol

    muahahahahaha!!!!!!!!1

  • My fish would make soup of your turtle! Muahahaha back atcha! LOL

  • beautiful fish! I have a couple questions for you, if it's not too much of a bother ^^;

I'm planning on buying a couple ryukin myself, and am saving up the money for a 20 gallon tank, but I would like to know what kind of filter you're using and how often you feed the fish?

  • Cool! I have a 20 gallon with a ryukin and an oranda. They are Frito and Lay! LOL!

  • Lol nice names for fish :P are they really compatible with oranda?

  • great fish and good names im gonna up the size on my 2 comet goldfish from a 2 1/2 gallon tank to a 36 gallon i hope they will be quite happy like yours

  • Lovely fish! They are obviously very well cared for.

  • I LOVE your fish!!! (I just keep watching your vid, ha) I am going to get a 20 gallon for my baby Ryukin soon... Do you think 20 is large enough for just one fish?

  • I would think so. If you read the comments here some think that 20 is too small for my 2 fish. However I do care for it very well, and will up the size once my fish get a little bigger. :) Ricky (white) and Lucy (Orange) are both doing great btw!

  • Thanks! Yeah, I keep the tank really clean and would get larger than 20, but alas, I have limited space (hence one goldfish).

  • I'm so excited for my 20 gallon tank! :)

  • Don't over stock it! Wink, Wink!

  • definitely not! I have 2 growing fantails, an algae eater, and 6 smaller feeder goldfish that I rescued from a biology project from a friend (both of my fantails were rescued too, from a wedding at work- the wedding planner was going to flush them and I said absolutely NOT!). Fish can be such awesome pets! yours are absolutely gorgeous!

  • luv the oclors what do u feed them??

  • Excellent tank, fish size goes well with the tank size ... good proportion.

  • These fish are actually japanese fantails, after it was exported from japan to other countries they are being called Ryukin. I have 8 inches ryukin goldies in my back yard pond. These goldfish are very hardy fish and suitable for outdoor pond. They need big space. 20 g for 2 ryukin will minimized their growth level.

  • Thank you!

  • What do you feed them and how often a day?? My smallest Ryukin is starting to float belly up once in a while.... I started feeding him algae flakes only and it helped a little.

  • Unfortunately, swim bladder issues seem to common for Ryukins. Try giving your upside-down fish a frozen pea that's been thawed out and smashed. I've heard that this helps in some cases.

  • i got a 20 gallon how many should i get

  • I did a fair amount of research and as Ryukins grow rather large my two will eventually outgrow my 20 gallon tank. I would stick with two if I were you. :)

  • omg how beautiful! I especially love the one with more white on it, such nice colorings. How big is your tank? I have 3 in my 30 gallon.

  • Gorgeous! How old are they?

  • I believe they were less than 6 months old at the time. You should see them now! WOW!

  • WOW! beautiful fish but there huge compared to mine i think mine is a female im not sure tho!

  • Oh, they're gorgeous! And I love your simple and neat tank display. Your fishies seem quite happy and healthy in their tank. I have three Ryukins myself, and have fallen in love with the breed. They have such funny personalities! I love them. =]
