One of the best songs of the era. Only equalled by Colour of my Love..

  • You're not kidding!

  • absolutely brilliant

  • One of my favorites! Thanks so much for uploading.

  • This song is about 43 years old and has stood the test of time. It has good vocals and good orchestration. Does anyone think that recording company marketing pawns such as Justin Bieber, Britney Spears, Katy Perry, etc. will be remembered and played in 43 years?

  • @sixpack07747 You are so right!! I have said for years that there really isn't alot of talent anymore. The 60's were full of talent!

  • ¡¡¡¡¡ RRAAAAADIO CAPITAL !!!!!

  • WIXY 1260 IN CLEVELAND!

  • I actually have this album, everysong was simply wondeful! What ever happened to Jefferson??

  • When was the last time you heard this on an oldies station? Try NEVER. Nothing evokes the late '60s/early 70s like this. Remember line dancing? I remember going to my best friend's Bar Mitzvah party. The girls lined on one side, the boys on the other and we danced to this. What great times and great pop music. Thanks for posting.

  • ty for posting this and color of my love 2 excellent songs this in particular very meaningful...well orchestrated..well sung too totally suits jeffersons voice.. a proper song...but then again they used to make good songs in those days.....

  • Check out Estonian cover version from 1970 with original funny promo clip: Ivo Linna -Julge laul.

  • @MargusKiistheCritic

That's really funny--just today I was looking for some Ivo Linna songs and came across this one. "Julge laul" means "Brave Song" and the lyrics remind one of a Walter Mitty-type character transported into the 70's (a lot different content from the original). Ivo Linna was one of the artists who helped lead the Singing Revolution that contributed to Estonian independence being reestablished in 1991--he's still a popular singer in Estonia.

  • @jeglpz

I realize that you know all this, Margus; just thought to give a little more information for other English speakers. Can you tell me if the promo clip is for a film released at the time?

  • @jeglpz

The clip is a part of TV- movie "Duett-Duell" (ETV 1970) which is funny and very eclectic collection of music clips loosely tied to duel theme. Among the artists performing there are Jaak Joala, Olav Ehala (yes, the future Estonian star composer perfrorms as a singer there), Peeter Lilje (the future classical conductor performs as jazz pianist) etc.

  • @the13er

Thank you for your help. I found it on the etv2 website. I don't yet recognize all the artists you mention; still picking up on the culture as well as the language.

  • oldie of the 70s not a well known singer but good melody and bounce

  • Terrific song. Thanks for the memories. 10+ stars!

  • @jsbach15 I agree completely......

  • Heard this on the long gone KETU FM Salem Mo. 3000 watts and qudraphonic "4 channel" Dennis Vaughn was the d.j.

He last worked for the long gone KCLU Rolla. Don't know where he is today.

His favorite handle was "disco Vaughn"

The other d.j. on AM was Craig Ruble.

He now owns a surveying company.

  • i remember wcol 1969.harry valentine dedication program, wes hopkins and keemosabi, steve bayless, etc.good, good days.i want to go back and take my torino cobra over to green gables one more time.

  • 1969,,, Columbus, Ohio. The New WCOL 1230 AM. Those were the days.......

  • Muy buena canción, me recuerda mucho a mi papá.

  • The LP title "You Know How It Is With a Woman" reminds me of that Monty Python punchline...."what's it like?" Wink wink, nudge nudge.

  • This song is so incredibly exuberant that it threatens to overwhelm the listener. Interesting take on the midtempo pop song, a form not necessarily known for its extremeness (at least not nowadays).

  • This arrangement was certainly influenced by the "Spector Wall of Sound" style of music.

  • 1970 compared with today's garbage.

No contest. It was fun just being there back then.

  • There was plenty of garbage back then, but generally you're right. For a real treat, check out some of the Asian pop (Sharon Cuneta, Regine Velasquez, The Peanuts, The Fabulous Echoes, Chelsia Chan, Teddy Robins, Jose Mari Chan, and the various links from there). You will find a lot of great music that you never knew about, even if some of them are in other languages.

  • Yes I agree and "junk" was put into the can where it belonged.

Today that sort of crap is aired on the wanna be's Who want's to sing shows.

Who ever heard of Who wants to be a recording artist?

You sang, you played, and you cut records.

    Hogwash to todays junk!

As far as the alternate language. America needs to understand this is an English Speaking country. If they want it heard then let them do like everyone else did in the day and sing it in English!

  • Nice catch! Most people can tell that it's different, but have no clue WHY it's different -- this is a "driving" song, with strong lyrics and forceful delivery, in a genre not known for them. Other examples of driving songs are Barbara Lewis' "Make Me Your Baby" and Danny Hutton's "Roses and Rainbows."

  • Philadelphia radio in the late 60's and early 70's was the best!

    WFIL 560 AM Famous 56

    WIBG 990

In our house we listened to WFIL more because as they said

    "Much more music!"

  • how about Cousin Brucie in nyc

  • You are so right!! they were the best stations!

  • how about CKLW, the motor city?

  • WOGL 98.1 and WIBG (Phila stations)-can't remember the numbers- this song came out the year I started to date my husband (1969) -we were 15 then- such a long time ago. Such good memories-good times.

  • Was played on WFIL & WIBG. FM was for dentist office music or progressive rock in those days.

  • You're right- I forgot about WFIL - thanks for the comment.

  • incredibly powerful love song by the great [and very underaprreciated] ''jefferson'' geoff thurnton from 1970. someone should post ''city girl'' and ''ive got the best of you'' by this talented lost artist.

  • Wow! here we go again with a master

piece from early 1970. Well lets go down memory lane to KAAY AM or WLS THE BIG 89. Where else?

What about the pool hall in downtown

Licking Mo. or just about any good juke box.

    Thanks for keeping the faith.

Anyone have Summer Symphony by Jack Gold Sound ? (1971)

  • KAAY--wow, that brings back the memories. At night you could pick that station up from half the country.

  • 1973 I was working at Caterpillar in Peoria Il. third shift. My buddy and I would drive to work and could pick that station up ..KAAY -Little Rock Arkansas..

  • una gran cancion del 71

  • This song brings back some great memories. Always was a favorite.

  • another lost gem! thanks for posting!

  • Another masterful composition of talented songwriter Tony Macaulay! He brought us many wonderful "happy" pop hits! Great job by Geoff Turton ("Jefferson")!!! Love this tune!

  • Tony Macaulay, John Macleod, Geoff Stephens, Roger Cook, Roger Greenaway, Albert Hammond...they penned a lot of big hits.

  • What great memories--what a great song!! Thanks for the post......

  • A fine but lost hit from the early 70's. I hear it now and then on Philly DJ Hy Lit's stream. Thanks soooo much for reposting this.

  • Is it the same as the Jefferson Airplane, cause I know this group changed their name into Jefferson also?

  • This Jefferson was from a British group named The Rockin' Berries.

  • thanks,rodineisilveira

  • Eu achei o "compacto" dessa musica, minhas irmãs compravam tudo da época... Não sabia que era um grupo inglês! Ive found the compact of this song that my sisters collected down here in Sao Paulo, Brazil, I grew up to the sound of these lovely 60 and 70s songs...
