ive been reading the responses to this track. here's the deal. Phil Lynott was born in great Bridge, west brom. his mom took him to ireland to grow up. the fact is he's a black country boy not an irish lad. yes he got the lingo right. but its like the acdc boys being mostly scotish..as far as the kol goes. if they're inspired by lizzy, thats great. one feather in their cap for them. do they or have they captulated a lizzy crowd with their own style of music ? then i'm afraid the answer is no!!!!
@Jemimaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa no it's not! Philo & Lizzy hold their own.. Phil was ORIGINAL and making moves better than anyone. with his dance and rock n roll fusion
Knew this before Kings of Leon song. The two are equally brilliant musically, just separated by time. Stop bitching and accept that you can only compare bands when both are playing at the same time. We don't know how great KOL are going to be. All we know is that Thin Lizzy became great, and thats the sort of comparison people go on, but its wrong
hey good music is good music.just because you dont understand kol doesnt erase the fact that they understood thin lizzy.dont be a music snob.it makes you look desperate.
Thank you Phil, so so much, saved my life....so what if other bands have brought other people here, its how different generations discover music now, calm down... can we please not all just appreciate the majesty of Lizzy, i'm 21 and ive been a Lizzy fan all my life, you dont have to be 50 or Irish to love the music, its not what they would have wanted, just rock out together, revel in the sheer poetic beauty of Mr Lynott...I'm a Irishman wishing peace love and fucking anarchy to all!!!!!!!!!!!
Fair enough, I agree. But I also agree in finding your own music because of your own tastes. Listening to somethign because you think its a work of art and because its sculpted YOUR life, not someone elses. All I'm saying is if you found this place because someone told you to, good for you. If you found this out of the love and passion of searching for years and endless hours just because, then yea, maybe you dont wanna hear about kins of leon..
@TheWackyAntics At least they found it? This is perhaps my favourite Lizzy song, but I only found it after about a 3 year obsession which began with the songs The Boys Are Back In Town, Waiting for an Alibi and Dancing in the Moonlight. (I'm not devaluing these songs at all, I just know some fans don't think this is the right way to discover the band either) It's not where you're coming from, it's where you're going to.
Please don't make potential fellow fans think we're all wankers.

well if your talking about KOL sending you here etc.. Mollys chambers was also inspired by Thin Lizzys version of whiskey in the jar..and that was when Kol were cool haha
This song was written about me,or others like me,we just didn't know it then?I have since found my way,but never lost sight of where I have been.Love this, and all Thin Lizzy songs!!
the reason this song is so good is simple Phil can relate to the margins as he was not from a normal background. It is in fact a testament to him what he actually managed to achieve.
@o0RubberSoul0owhy does it matter if I know anything about their line up situations? You aren't getting the point of what I was trying to say which was any way you slice it be it musicality or the lyrical aspect of the song, all in all black sabbath are a much more intricate band when it comes to the stuff that matters to me as a listener. I wasnt ever trying to insult them or you, merely offering another persons reasons for not thinking they are a brilliant band as you say
@o0RubberSoul0o black sabbath aren't really that simple. Not to mention musicianship. Iommi, geezer butler, and bill ward slay anyone whos ever been in kings of leon
You cant have Thin Lizzie to yourselt. Music is for everyone.
You are not special because you knew what thin lizzie was before. Just like hundreds of babies are born every minute - you cant do anything to keep people from discovering music through someones influences.
@o0RubberSoul0o well from the metalhead side of things I cant say KOL are terrible or anything but they are just too poppy sonding and as much as I try to be open to different styles pop music is just way too simple and boring for me
You all see the downfall of this Earth after Phil died, dont you? Music will never be the same, as nobody can ever surpass the simple genious of Mr.Lynott...
this was on of the firstsongs I ever heard form thin lizzy, and I just became very identify with this song ( sorry for my english,). I don't know why Thin Lizzy was so overlooked, but in a way I think it is better this way ;cause some of the greatest things don't have to be appreciated by everyone, and that's what makes tnem special.
When I Think of Lizzy, I think about Phil, and today I cry Gary's Death. They may not have the fame they deserved, but like all the giants, they never needed fame to be great! Thanks Everynoe For your comments supporting Lizzy's music !
This is damn good album, better than Snowy White`s other album China Town, which has also good catchy songs. Lynott has also great lyrics, soulful voice.
KOL is short for Kings of Leon which is a band. They have a song which is similar to this called pick up truck... that band is great along with this band
Downey always makes my teeth rattle. I nearly just dislocated my shoulder air drummin! GDamn he's a bad ass. Thx TLFanPage for all the entertainment. Lovin Lizzy since '75.
@TheStevo37 My friend you could not be more right.............I've been spouting those exact words for 20 years now! I saw them many times here in California back in the day. Imagine TL vs. U2 both in their prime if we could. Believe me Bono's band is an hour warm up set for the BOYS!
To think that most of the comments here are talking about KOL. KOL will never come close to the legend that is Thin Lizzy! If you want to talk about KOL do it somewhere else.
@ThinLizzyFanpage your a little harsh on kol, kol is a great band, when you listen to their stuff that isnt played on the radio. this band has a big influence on kol. They're not trying to be best, they just like to make music. They just happened to get really popular and isnt that what every musician wants, to have poeple listen to their music? Julian Casablancas from the strokes always said that too. Sorry my english is not that good.
@Hellrun The reason KOL is mentioned so much is that on there new album there is a song called Pick Up Truck and KOL openly claims that when they composed it they said "This is our renegade" in the same interview they have mentioned how much the love this song. So yea, the mention of KOL stems from there and i am in agreement with you KOL can never be like Lizzy
wtf is KOL? Anyways this is a great song, and fantastic album. I saw critics giving this 2 stars, and I was shocked. Eh, fuck what they think, it's what the fans think that matters, and I saw great reviews from them. :)
@Hellrun I would never dare to compare KOL to TL. KOL is still fancy roofer while TL has a Bengal tiger reputation:) So why did they call themselves Kings of Leon?
@Hellrun I bought tickets to this tour in america when i was 15, they cancelled the tour.
Probably because of phil and scotts addiction. which we didnt know then. But , this was the last time we were ever going to see them as a band ever again.but, we didnt know it then.
Thats why this album is a little more bittersweet than any other. thanks. i think its one of their best albums.
and snowy white fit with them, more than john sykes. But, robbo was the best.
@Julietthefrenchgreek, You can be proud, Thin Lizzy is really is one of the graetest band of the rock, hard rock era and the core of the band was basically irish (Phil and Brian who know each other since childhood) except Scott who is from US.
@wilfogarty dromkeen? '79? lucky you!i knew they were there but i was only15yrs,and just down the road, in cappamore.the renegade album turned me off, cos of the keyboards, at the time, now its my fovrout lizzy album!
thin lizzy doesnt get the respect that they should lynott died too soon if lynott would have lived thin lizzy would have been recognized as one of the greastest bands EVURR
I don't get it. Any critics comentary I've read about this album said stuff like "Phill not up to usual standard" and the like. THEY HAVEN'T GOT A FUCKING CLUE. There's a few more gems on Renegade that I don't see on YT at the moment. I may make the effort to get my vinyl on to YT but I'm making no promises. And Phil, if you can hear me up there (or probobly down there) KEEP ON ROCKIN' DUDE
@Corkscrewkenny you are right I have this album it is great the problem is people only hear The Boys are back in town and don't realize all the other great stuff they put out.
saw thin lizzy quite a few times in the early 80s they were the best band around for me . fuckin great live ! its a pity they ended the way they did. say no more.
@Cytacon I agree man!! Unreal song! I'd say half the views are of the same people looking up this song! Im always throwing this on when Im on youtube!
Huge thanks for uploading this. It's a special wonder to me that Lizzy came up with such a futuristic song. I mean that in the most complimentary sense, they just kept pushing the boundaries of their music. And that this song came at such a late late stage in their career is even more breathtaking. Thankyou!
@muchna I Love It. A friend of mine played the record for me almost 30 years ago, I haven't heard it since. Today suddenly I was celebrating is strength and needed badly to hear... So defiant... Take care, God bless...
Agree 100%. When I'm in a certain mood I always put this song on. I can't define what that mood is, but that just speaks to the genius of the song, nothing else compares!
"Renegade" and "The Pressure Will Blow" are my two favorites off of the Renegade album, but the others are good, too. Overall, Renegade is way underrated in the Thin Lizzy discography.
Why would someone start this leon vs Thin Lizzy crap, what the hell, fucking no respect history anymore.

@Julietthefrenchgreek, You can be proud, Thin Lizzy is really is one of the graetest band of the rock, hard rock era and the core of the band was basically irish (Phil and Brian who know each other since childhood) except Scott who is from US.

Huge thanks for uploading this. It's a special wonder to me that Lizzy came up with such a futuristic song. I mean that in the most complimentary sense, they just kept pushing the boundaries of their music. And that this song came at such a late late stage in their career is even more breathtaking. Thankyou!

Agree 100%. When I'm in a certain mood I always put this song on. I can't define what that mood is, but that just speaks to the genius of the song, nothing else compares!
eJasminde 2 years ago
I agree with the whole "mood" idea.
"Renegade" and "The Pressure Will Blow" are my two favorites off of the Renegade album, but the others are good, too. Overall, Renegade is way underrated in the Thin Lizzy discography.
