Birmingham Odeon winter 1981 (and again March 1982 by massive demmand) the giant red Renegade flag ripples under strobe lighting . . . the tension is unbearable. Darren, in the shadows, electrifies the air with opening chords from Angel of Death. Philo's theme tune Renegade follows with Snowy and Scott chord perfect. Don't let him slip away . . .
I was at the front at Brighton when this was being played. Snowy White dropped his plectrum and was panicking - I handed one to him which I had in my pocket and he managed the solo. He then gave it me back as well as one of his own. Memories!
Phil is now and will always be one of the most missed gifted story tellers with hart of gold ! Thank you Phil for you have giving so much to us all if there is a GOD IN HEAVEN PLEASE TAKE CARE OF PHIL .
Well Ill take this over hip hop, thug rap. That crap isnt even music it has no melody, has a monotone drum beat, its sampled from other peoples music....its not even about music. Its about thugs and their gold and how many ho's they have and everywhere they roll their theme music goes with them. hahaha.
This is a great song that deserves to up there with the greatest songs of all time....I could see this song being played at my funeral....I can't believe that I said that....
This album is very underated. It is loaded with great music , much like Black Rose and Jailbreak. This song sounds exactly like the recording-Considering the intricate parts and double guitars it is great performance.
@soccerdogg007 you are right that it has many great songs on it but it's also true that it contains more filler than usual...stuff like Fats, Mexican Blood and Leave This Town have no place on any Lizzy album, imho...i do love this song though! a classic
I like Mexican Blood and Leave this Town. Most bands would be happy to write songs of that caliber. Lizzy was just so good, songs like that pale in comparison to some monsters they wrote.
Fats wasn't bad either, but it was just out of place on the album. Would of fit better with some of Lynott's solo stuff.
@blacksabfan which bands, just out of interest? not knocking your opinion at all, just interested with where you are going with that statement. i believe you are also a Lizzy die-hard and many do not share that belief about the aforementioned songs...i do agree with you that they should have been used for Phil's 2nd solo album, which came out around the same time
@blacksabfan ultimately, you are right...Lizzy were that damn good, their supporters expected classic after classic...anything less, could be disappointing. my Uncle was a member of their official fanclub/supporters club from around 1974 to 79, so he saw them in their prime right up to when they peaked...the only 2 albums he disliked are the Snowy ones. it seems to be a common theme among the old-school fans
It's easy to believe how most reviews of gigs of Lizzy were never ever negative. They always did a different take on their songs and they will always be my favourite band of all time. Underrated (check) Amazing (check) Look (check) Originality (check) Legends? Always!!!!
amen man! I just can't believe that they flew under the USA radar like they did,and us lizzy fans that live in america...well,lets just say we are "more refined" than the rest.
Hey dogstar. Well I watched a documentary on it the other day and they had a massive American tour set up with most venues sold out. What happened was Phil got hepatitis and nearly died. The tour was cancelled. Hence they flew under your radar :(
sbyrne1 I think they were suppporting Alice Cooper or some other band then Philo got sick not sure what it was your prob right but it was while he was sick that he wrote most of the Jailbreak and Johnny the Fox songs so perhaps a blessing in disguise. At least thats what I've heard.
Epic and genius! this is sheer undeniable proof that the fabricated music produced today is utter bull shit, there is no 'real' talent or bands we'd regard as accomplished musicians. Thank the lord for thin lizzy
Agreed, there aren't any talented rock bands these days. That's why I've become a Jazz drummer. I won't work with a guy who can do little more than slide a power chord around, yet he has the nerve to call himself a guitar player. I won't work with a singer who wants to scream about his dysfunctional life either....Through poor marketing strategies, rock became a talentless sub-genre with no mainstream appeal. It's a freak and geek scene....Emo anyone ? How about Korn,Slipknot ?
It seems like there's a certain recipe you can follow to be a success...and if you turn on the radio it sounds like the recipe is riffs that consist of 4 simple chords and vocals, and that's it.. seems like it took 5 min. to write - Thin Lizzy feels so personal, and is musically brilliant on top of that
i think this live recording is better than the studio...and that is why music today totally sucks..now we have Ashley Simpson's runnin' the show and use that auto-tune bullshit in the studio, and then they can't hack it live..so they resort to other methods of performing, and i think you all know what i'm talking about..(snl)
Saw them three or four times in the late 70's and 80's when they were at their peak, including when they recorded the 'Live AND Dangerous' album.
Awesome band live, their ballads made you want to cry, and their rock anthems moved every sinue in your body, always an electric atmosphere at their gigs! still got all the gig prog's and ticket stubbs to remind me of the good times past!
Every Lizzy fan will miss Phil'for the rest of their lives, RIP Mate !!

true true, the greatest heavy metal was in the 1970/80 and when Mötley Crüe and other crapbands like them popped up everything started to go down..
Today we will never see a band as good as Lizzy, Maiden or Priest ect rise again
