I see black magic as something just for my interest or the interest of the black magician. Something "selfish". I see white magic as something to serve others. For example healing. I see grey magic as a bit of both but I consider grey magic black.

Of course, I've heard of Aleister Crowley and I did google his definition of magick which was somewhat enlightening. I'm very interested in the nature of conscientiousness and I believe it is not limited to our physical bodies but can be projected outward. If you don't mind, I would really like to know from a person who practices magick... How do you preform it and for what purpose and how do you explain it.

It is also, a balancing act. Emotions can be associated with different energies. This, for example, is why revenge magick seems to work so well.

Black or white magick, well I would say it is according to the system you practice I.E Not all systems are the same what is salt to 1 may or could be pepper to the other - let it not be said we raise our power cast our spells and pay homage because we all want to heal.

Black or white magick, well I would haft to say each system has its own mind set and way of thinking and performing I.E. what is good for some is evil for others and according to that system of magick...now being in the arts I would haft to say that in general it would consist of what system you reside in. How can you know love w/o knowing fear? Light w/o darkness? Good w/o bad? In order for one to be defined, the other compliment must also exist. Thus darkness and light are absolutes, meaning they both need each other and one can never banish the other out of existence permanently. Yet darkness is not the opposite of light, but the absence of light. What is the properties of light then? of darkness? after u define that. then just add who is behind the curtain? the sorcerer or the magician.

I agree with your statement about magick being varying shades of gray, whole heartedly. Whenever someone asks me about good and evil (particularly my Christian mother), I tell them to look outside, to look at nature. Is it good or evil? To me, nature and magick are interchangable. Magick is perfectly natural, and nature and perfectly magickal.

I agree completely about the idea the magick in and of itself can not be called black or white. I feel that all good and evil lie in the intention of the caster. Calling magick white or black without knowing the intention of the caster is like saying this gun is good and that gun is evil. It is all in the intention of the caster.  I also agree with the idea that magick free from constraint of religion could be called black.

Black Magic just means doing magic without your victim's consent. White Magic is just letting your victim beforehand know what you are about to do to them. Both Black and White magic can both be either for beneficial or destructive purposes. The 'gray line' between the consent forms is that the sorcerer or magician has the choice of free will tell or warn the victim in whatever way he chooses to.

I agree to your point about black/white being compliments, not opposites. But the properties of both needs to be understood. Once you access your shadow self hidden in the dark, by definition you bring it out to light to be revealed. However, light has many properties. What can take your soul spiritually up (ie light), has the same ability to bring you down. The individual has both the potential for darkness and light in the esoteric or exoteric realm. I would classify black magic as magic invoking nocturnal or cthonic deities or powers, though there's considerable overlap. Really, the distinction is meaningless- no matter what definition YOU use, there's no point using the term unless you're willing to explain your definition to everyone you talk to (because they'll have their own definition that likely contradicts it).

I believe that the Wiccan Rede is a form of subtle control. I think that people should practice their TRUE WILL. Humans understand repurcussions. They don't need to be threaten by somebody else's fears of practicing true will (if that makes sense). PLUS, I don't like the racial connotations attached to Black and White magick.

Personally, I think that a person using magic stupidly has far worse effect than smartly using the "varying shades of gray" in an intelligent fashion. I don't use colors to describe magic. But I understand the points of view of the people who use the terms white and black magic in different ways. I have seen a lot of harm come from the supposed "good intentions" of "white witches".
