  • The one on the remastered movie is eons better than this one. It has reverb mixed in and the vocals and everything sound so good. It's a shame no on YouTube has that exact version.

  • So intensely awesome....

  • beautiful

  • led zeppelin is everywhere!!!!!!!!!

  • out of this universe!!!!!!

  • 2:19 to 2:34 man i feel like I'm being hypnotized its so badass! Jimmy is the fuckin man!

  • i kinda wish plant wouldn't have sung on this. his voice is an instrument that doesn't belong in this piece. this imo is better than any other led zeppelin song, i've heard bootlegs of other "san francisco" parts but I think this version is the best

  • I dont understand how anyone could ever dislike this.

  • classic 70's poster shot at 1:30

  • @bubhub64 Indeed. It even has the lead singer covering the bass player!

  • for some reason this clip of 2 minutes and fifty seconds just summarises the whole led zeppelin experience for me ....... still cant put my finger to it isit the drums the guitar the voice the bass or all of it coming together or is it just sheer ingenuityor improv skills or the ability to transport me to the time even my parents were kids or ability to get high without actaully taking ane hallucinogen ..... or all of the above i AM DAZED AND CONFUSED FOR SO LONG ITS NOT EVEN FUNNY ANEMORE haha

  • so great piece of guitar ...

  • so good ...

  • I would have ended the video when the musical flow actually comes to a stop which is during the beginning of the violin solo. I wish I could tell you what part exactly but not easy to describe. But I'm not complaining when anyone uploads a Led Zeppelin video.

  • This is the most emotive music motif, that i heard. "San Francisco", flowers in hair, but very different, very sad.

  • aw everywhere

    everywhere

    everywhere

  • or we do understand the difference .

it should be no religions but two , just Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath

  • I don't wanna have to make some cliche, hyperbolic statement about the awesomeness of this band, as it's been done, and we all (I think) get how great they were.

But there is something about this music Zeppelin creates that is almost... innate. Same with their performance of No Quarter in TSRTS.

A feeling is created, as if, should you have felt those feelings first, and could amplify them into audio, this is what is would sound like.

So yeah, somewhat hyperbolic, but there's something in it.

  • Is anybody else in love with the little strut Robert does at 1:24? I can't be the only one.

  • @SqueezeMyLemon68 Count me in. Plant in MSG in 1973 somehow left you feeling like you had watched a stripper...even though somehow he never actually took off any clothes. I limit how often I watch TSRTS footage because I don't want to ever burn myself out on it and/or dilute the effect.

  • NR 1 forever !!!!!

  • If you can, get this on blue ray it is outstanding, especially in this bit when Bonzo and John Paul exchange glances

  • they should have made this a fucking song,it would be more epic than stairway to heaven!

  • @Ashraff1971 they did. achilles last stand has the same riff

  • Bonhams fill from 1:51-54 is just perfect, evertime he hits a drum its just so powerful, almost overwhelming R.I.P

    Led Zeppelin > All

  • I honestly think this is one of there best performances of all time I literally get the chills when plant goes off at 1:53

  • seriously, U2?!?! Never. And same with Floyd. Although Floyd comes much closer.

  • I heard lots of ppl saying Jimmy had no feeling..... Fucktards!

  • the sound of this puts me into a state nothing else can compare to. its indescribable. its like some dark, ancient, archaic melody that just grabs you, like your witnessing time change, a grand battle emerging before you in the halls of time. and when jimmy starts that entrancing, phasing riff it explodes into pure ecstasy and you know then, you are witnessing gods, the mighty zeppelin...

  • @xx18999 I have never known how to express my emotions when I listen to this, but this hits it on the nail. You sir, have read my thoughts and put em into words.

  • HAMMER OF THE GODS

  • robert plant was realllly feminine...

  • @MummyFish1012 nah he was just pure sex

  • @MummyFish1012 untill he got all the hot chicks up into his room ; )

  • they are all amazing.

i just cant stand the fact that no one really appreciates John Paul Jones!

he only gets like 2 seconds on the camers and hes awesome too. :P

  • i love how at 0:12 when Jonesy plays a note and Bonzo's just like "Nah man what's wrong with you?" and then Jonesy's like "What? I thought that was okay" but Bonzo is already in his own little world

  • @DangVegan well its not really that jones plays a bad note. page always goes off on these improvisational talents. they're just looking at each other because they dont know what the hell page is doing. hence bonham putting fills in on the start of a bar lol

  • This is so awesome btw on ultimate guitar .com they have these tabs look for san francisco led zeppelin

  • Probably - not, FOR SURE - the best 3 minutes by the Zeps. It's wonderful the way JPJ and Bonzo were chatting at the beginning, or the readiness of their time-changes or dynamics.

THEY WERE, THEY ARE, THEY'LL BE THE HAMMER OF THE GODS.

  • Jimmy Page is the greatest guitarist ever.

  • best 3 minutes of music ever. period

  • my favorite

  • somebody can give me a tab from this???? please

  • somebody can giveme a tab from this? please

  • wow this part it so fucking crazy:):):):)

  • all that i can say, well sing is

"If your going to San Francisco, be sure to wear some flowers in your hair, If your going to San Francisco, You're gonna meet a lotta gentle people there, everywhere, everywhere, everywhere, everywhere, I KNOW I KNOW I KNOW I KNOW I KNOW"

incredible, best performance of it, i am obsessed with that part

  • altought i like led, in this concert he looks drunk, SERIOUSLY, and scott mckenzie version pwns this one

  • @overlookNW237 haha yeah in lala land led zeppelin 911'd scotts version

  • The guitar is obviously what inspired Achilles Last Stand, I'm not a Zep expert, but I'm willing to bet that they never played San Fransisco again in concert after ALS came out on Presence, and among many other possible reasons, it seems that playing the same chord progression in ALS would be the most plausible. And the bashing of my opinion no doubt commences.....

  • @TelefonicaRR Jimmy broke a finger somewhere around 74-75. He could not play some songs, Dazed and Confussed was one that was dropped from their set list. Achillies Last Stand came out in 76.

  • @TelefonicaRR Well yeah they stopped playing it after 1975 but because they stopped playing Dazed which is the song that contains it. But you're right it does sound like a slower version of ALS.

  • my favorite part of the whole concert

  • godly

  • Comment removed

  • 0.26-0.30 there is just something about the way bonzo could hit a drum. ZEP FOREVER!!!

  • ZEPPELIN= GODS AMONGST MEN

  • JIMMY PAGE FN RULES

  • sex.

  • Smoke a bowl and listen to this... ahhhhhhhhh :]

  • @SnIkLeeT smoking a bowl and listening to this is exactly what i'm doing :) i fucking love jimmy page

  • Happy days.

  • I wish they had written more stuff in this style, especially the guitar part at the beginning is amazing.

  • Yeah this has a name...it's called Achilles Last Stand. It's a shame more people don't listen carefully to the actual music of Zeppelin. Just cus the lyrics and key change you can't even recognize one of Zeppelin's greatest hits!

  • @LeadBlimp this concert was in '73... Achilles was recorded in '76. Achilles has some parts that borrow from this... but this is definitely not Achilles Last Stand.

  • @LeadBlimp

Lets break it down. First, thats a good thought. the only thing is that the album presence came out in 1976, after this performance. san francisco could have been an inspiration for achilles last stand though, they are similar

  • hahah dumbass

they didnt write achilles until prescence, which was much later in their career...i think it came out around '77 or '78

this is san franciso by the Mama's and the Papa's

  • Interesting point, I must say, I love Achilles Last Stand, but would never pick out that this is Achilles, though it does sound similar.

  • 0:58

    i love that

  • jimmy page didnt just randomly decide to play it they have played it in dazed and confused both legs of the 1973 tour, but this was around the time when it was close to completely matured.. jus listen to their performance at offenburg germany in march '73 and you can hear a big difference. i personaly like the version at offenburg bettr..

  • you should listen to the whole dazed and confused part it's well over 20 minutes of magic, i think jimmy used black magic and put us on a spell

  • @arkantoxic most likely lol

  • haunting stuff

  • Led Zeppelin is the best band ever created. Better than the Beatles. Better than anyone. They are the hammer of the Gods.

  • @Conaan70 Led Zeppelin is probably my favorite band but they are not better than the Beatles. The Beatles arent better than them either. They are both atop the mountian. Saying one is better than the other is like saying blue is better than red

  • @Conaan70 Better than the Beatles I agree. But not better than Pink Floyd or U2. Equal but not better. In other words I agree there is no band better than them nor will there ever be, but IMO two bands are equal with them.

  • @imageniusdonchaknow I can see pink Floyd but not U2

  • @imageniusdonchaknow Haha U2 would be ecstatic if they got close to being Led Zeppelin servants.

  • This is the 70's.

  • This is brilliant........

  • There is something very strange about this clip.

Its not the most technical, best played, or interesting clip i've ever heard.

BUT, there is some serious magic flowing through the band, which makes it come across with this amazing feel and its just plain epic!

  • Epic. Just Epic.

  • no one will ever rival them, the first time i heard this i was blown away

  • I have a Les Paul Cherry Sunburst in honor of my true guitar god, Jimmy Page. The very first time I ever heard this, I too was totally blown away...and I still am each and every time I hear it. It brings me to my knees. The transformation of the Scott McKenzie's happy, hippie song full of love and joy to this - total darkness, Plant's howling vocals and Jimmy's unreal guitar playing - use of the wah and fuzz through his Marshalls. Truly fucking Epic. The best guitar tone I have ever heard.

  • LOVE IT!

  • That is mind boggling!!!!! Bonzo RIP

  • The light above Robert at 2:00 looks like HAL 9000, lol

  • WOW....what a performance!! Thats exactly how they wrote history......Magic!!

  • The improvistion here never fails to raise the hair on my arms! Almost haunting! As if these musicians are vampires who have spent all of eternity studying and playing there instruments. Also, It 's great to see so many other people who understand the genius behind Led Zeppelin.

  • @zeppyfan1977 : Agreed. Every time I get the hairs rising on my arms. When Plant looks straight at the camera it's almost scary! LOVE IT TO BITS! Fuck the haters!

  • @zeppyfan1977 what you said there is weird but it somehow makes sense.

  • @zeppyfan1977 this is a great clip and i also thought they were improvising, but i heard a bootleg of this track and they played it pretty much the same as this performance...

  • omg!!! are they from this planet . they are god guys really god

  • Wooooooooooow =) ---

  • i listen to this part everytime before i go to sleep :)

  • 3 godlike minutes have just passed :)

  • nothing beats this man, best fuckin music ever, check out my page, i goi stairway to heaven acoustic solso, and achiles last stand solo

  • The video is faster then normal

  • i think john paul jones and bonzo were talking about jimmy page improvise

  • I'd say they're talking about when Bonham is supposed to start to play, cause when he start, John-Paul Jones is doing a head sign to say it's alright:P, but I'm not 100% sure.. and sorry for my english, I'm from Quebec!

  • i agree

  • also look at bonham hes so into it

  • "you're gonna meet a lot of devil people there"

  • If I ever take LSD or XTC or anything like it, I hope I have the sense to listen to this. So trippy.

  • If you do, make sure you are in a good frame of mind. Bad trips suck.

  • no quarter also my friend is a great song for the above activity.

  • Zepp should have made an actual song out of this. But of course changing it a bit so it's not in fringe of copyright law xD

  • they did, its called achilles last stand ;).

look here /watch?v=McHkvOOXtNI at 6:22 is one of the parts they do it, hard to hear the guitar tho, you can hear it better on live versions.

and no copyright, this is completely theres minus the lyrics, search san fransisco by scott mckenzie its the real song

  • the intro riff went into Achilles Last Stand in 1976

  • But Presence only came out in 1979 right?

  • 1976. In Throught the Out Door was 79

  • 1976

  • In Through the Out Door came out in '79. :)

  • Interesting theory, ill take a lisen.

    Thanks for the insight

  • What the hell, my guitarist ear is telling me this aint in E like all the other times I've heard them do it, that's fucking weird

  • your guitarists ear ios breoken, its E

  • Nice spelling cuntface

Were you born with bad manners or did you aquire them?

  • tell me what manners have to do with knowing what key its in and i mght be able to answer that you fuckin marter.

btw, its called a typo, some of us have lives to get on with, dont have all day to spend on this.

so do us all a favor and go live your life you spotty faced douchebag.

  • everywhere everywhere...

I love that part. This song has parts from Achilles (the intro) and (1:25) so I guess some of their songs come from stage improvisations.

  • quite a few came from improv most likely

  • Nah, doesnt capture the essence of the song.

  • i read a comment that said this was a great cover. what was it a cover of and who was the original by if it is a cover?

  • Search San Francisco of Scott McKenzie.

  • Mamas and Papas - San Fransisco, if I'm not mistaken. The lyrics are the only part used, though.

  • scott mckenzie preformed it. its on youtube

  • total fan girl in me....that percy strut from 1:25 :O wow

  • They deffinately gots the groooove

  • extremely underrated. this is just incredible.

  • i love the first seconds of this, when jonesy gives bonham a look like 'know fills john?' and john shakes his head

  • this is most likely where the main jist of "achilles last stand" came from

  • Could be part of it. I LOVE this cover.

  • this is so awesome

  • that's something special right there especially 2:00

  • Was thinking more along the lines of 2:39 on. So beautiful...

  • seems sped up. way to go dillhole

  • It's not sped up.

  • Its San Fransisco by Scott Mackensie

  • At .59 seconds, I want to be jimmy page's guitar ....

  • wow..... very passionate eh.....

  • This proves once again why JP and Zepp are unmatched.

  • You guys are really young.

    Wiki:

San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Flowers in Your Hair)" is a song, written by John Phillips of The Mamas & the Papas, and sung by Scott McKenzie. It was written and released in June 1967 to promote the Monterey Pop Festival.

  • Ha, I knew that.

  • so now i know how gods cumm

  • This is the godliest 3 minutes in rock and roll.

  • MrHaram- I believe the name of this piece is called: "True Jazz"- spontaneous and original---

  • mrharam the song is from scot mackenzie called san francisco an old hippie legend

  • the lyrics are but not the tune----

  • yea it improvised but by no means would you call it true jazz!!!!

  • great quality.

  • the whole version of dazed and confused is just a trip..

  • fuckin brillant

  • You can see Jones and Bonham talking to each other.

  • the whole dazed performance

  • some amazing shit, maybe the greatest rock performence i have ever seen

  • fuck yeaH!!!!!!!!!!!

  • eargasm

  • What you thik? does jimmy here use a split humbucker? on a start of this super song

  • 2:18 to 2:30 is the sexy part of the San Francisco part.

  • 1:00 !!!!!! crazy how this is part of dazed and confused...

  • i dont know guys,

is led zeppelin not the greatest?

  • i think its..its just jpj n bonzo..discussing wen 2 come in..this is prolly all improvised..well to a certain extent..lol

  • lol aw whats bonzo shaking his head about at the beguining wonder what jimmy said to him lol

  • oh pardon thats jonsey !! lol

  • If you're goin' to San Francisco

Be sure to wear some flowers in your hair

If you're goin' to San Francisco

You're gonna meet a lotta gentle people there

  • Thx budy

  • Can someone post the lyrics of this? English is not my main language.

  • the girls in california have flowers in their hair

  • i love this part.this is the beginning stages of achilles last stand!!!listen to the intro and then listen to achilles.

  • Nope. Got the wrong part. The intros nothing like the intro to this, the part in Achilles thats virtually the same is in the middle of the song, and you can just faintly hear it.

  • so thats wat this plart is called this part is like my favorite part

  • i am addicted to this song

  • one of my favorite parts of the movie

    a brilliant move by page

  • is that finger tapping or brushing at the start ?

  • is it called brushing? someone said it's some sort of spanish technique....

if you watch a performance of "babe i'm gonna leave you" with jimmy page and robert plant in the 1990's, he does it in that version as well.

i don't know what it is, but it sounds amazing.

i think i watch this video at least twice a day. i have to stop.

  • it's playing with the fingers, just as simple as that ;)

    My fav version!

this is the unedited version, sounds with a higher pitch and it's way faster than the original, I have both <3

  • Actually they did this part at several concerts, if you lurk a little more you will find some bootlegs
