Please don't tell me that I'm the only one that has been lifting dumbbells by starting in an L shape then going into a V shape? ): I've been starting from the L shape rather than starting with a straight arm into an L/V shape.
Im just starting out hitting the gym and im not really sure where to start. im roughly 65kg and 6ft tall. I wana hit the dumbbells as i have them at home before i start paying for the gym. Any ideas what exercises i can start with and at what weights? thanks! :)
In all honesty start low, like at 10 kg and work up. If you go too high at the beginning, like what I did, you'll destroy yourself mentally and physically, you'll feel like shit. Also do 3 excercises, keep at 6 reps and do 3 sets per excercise. Keep within half an hour One more thing, do your biceps, triceps and forearms together and only do them once or twice a week. They're really slow to develop so don't give up. That's my advice but everyones different. Good luck
Actually if you feel physically destroyed immediately after, I heard that's a pretty bad thing. 2 to 3 days after is when you should feel it, otherwise you've done your tendons in
totally ive not worked out or done anything for years, and i got 2.5kg on each sideplas the bar which is about 8kg and after a full set my arms are aching and i feel pumped lol.. ofcourse i can lift alot more, but its the muscle stamina that takes time... it means nothing if you can curl one rep of 60 kg because that wouldnt build any muscle or strength.. its never about the weight you lift, but the technique and doing it properly.but at a gym u can look stupid. lol start at home
I do 500 situps per day. 100 pushups and lift the dumbbell 15 min on each arm every day. Im 176cm(5.8ft) and 69 kg. I train soccer/football 2-3 times a week. I don't see any changes in one months work. I guess some people never will be "big" Any advice?
@ManUnitedMedia you are still growing then, you are young. just keep on working out. SInce you play soccer, not sure you need extra 500 situps. Do more push ups. At least 300. I recommend hitting the gym. Doing same stuff is not good. You need to mix it up. Do different things and you will see results. Spend one hour in the gym, but don't spend 30 min of it just siting there, be active. I recommend rowing machine. I love it. I use it to warm up, then lift weights.
I'm 16, and I lift up my dumbbell (5kg) 80 times a day with each arm, and I'm exhausted after it. I also do 80 pushups a day. And stomach muscle training 2 times 60 reps a time. But still I don't see any muscles, and I do this for over 2 years now. What should I do?
@GunsNRoses570 that's nothing man. you should spend at least 1 hours 3-4 times a week, for at least 2 weeks to see changes. No matter what people say, there are no short cuts or easy way. It's discipline, patience and hard work. Of course diet too. It takes months to gain muscles. People usually have unrealistic goals, and then they give up.
please tell me how to cope with left and right arm bisep size i am a left hander and have a diff. between both hands please give me tips to make both arms same
@JoseAllTheeWay if you want to build muscle then your way, is the wrong way. you should rather do something like 6-8 reps 3-4 sets and drop weight between sets. and on your last rep you must not be able to one more rep. but again thats for muscle gaining, not for something like losing fat or whatever your goal is :P
You dont have to look like ronnie coleman, to notice signs of steroid abuse. Many so called natural bodybuilders today even use them. Look at some pictures of fifties athletes, to see the difference. They worked out as hard as people today, belive me. If you work out yourself, you know the difference right away.

@Quex01 dude try compare him to kai greene, phil health,if he a roider, his arms probably bigger than that mate...huge different between a natural and a person who uses steroids...
@JJH2663 Injectional steroids will just numb the focusing part of the body/muscles, resulting in you being able to work out for longer and harder without exhaustion within the muscle. They do not themselves, make you bigger. They just allow you to train for longer. It is still down to you to push your body to it's potential.
@BigRedChester Positive is when you're using the strength, such as if you were doing a pushup, the positive would be going up, and the negative would be when you're going down. You inhale on the negative so you don't use extra energy on the positive.
@Quex01 This weight is light for him... So according to you he should use an even lighter weight, so that his muscles will have to work even less. You take a weight that matches your strength. If you keep doing light weights your body will not adapt and thus will not grow stronger.
@bbartje01 Reason why you should moderate weights is for that you get less risk of joint injury. Rotator cuff operation is not cheap. Key is to do reps slowly, 2 seconds up and 2 seconds down. That way you can utilize these muscle groups wich you want to work on (in this case biceps) , to the maxiumum. If you use too much weight, you cant perform exercise correctly. Unless you want to impress your girlfriend, using moderate weights is more effective way and less risky way. :)
@Quex01 That all depends on what you are training for. And this exercise hardly puts any strain on your shoulder compared to advanced exercises. Personally I train for strength and explosiveness, I hardly train my biceps isolated. I was just showing this video to a friend who wants to start with weights. However, all that stuff with risk of joint injury is so overexagerated. Of course if you do it to the extreme with a really really poor form you might risk injury. In this vid its not the case.
Please help me .I have only one dumbbell at home and I have to stand to work out 'cause I don't have a work out bench like you have .If I lift the dumbbell once at a time for each arm will that make my shape to become imbalance .'Cause in the video I saw you hold both dumbbell with both hands. Thanks you
@pubate1 dude i am using only one 2 but what you want to do is do the same amount for both sides but use your strongest arm first and then let it rest while using your weakest. this will allow your weakest to get more blood then your strongest. the only thing is is you might want to switch this up sometimes to give an equal workout to both arms.
my bicep is the only good thing on my body. well that and my buttocks and partly calf muscles because of walking for miles, daily, for nearly 20 years. my shoulders suck. they are too narrow. height overall is too short for model caliber (5' 9"). abs are bleh.
This is kinda weird or actaully pretty good, the other day I just started to lift a few weights ( this is like the first time in my life lol) and I have already seen results on my biceps and fore arms, all ive done is added these things to my diet: drank 1,5 liters of water a day, and had 3 boiled eggs and toast for lunch instead of just bread and then just had normal dinner basically. @cynicalhilarity simply by holding dumbbells for a second at the top and twist your wrist inside slowly as much as possible.. u will find this difficult but practise will make it easier.. :)
@TheHaloChief117 Don't weight lift if you're too young, because the muscles haven't fully developed, so you'll develop serious muscle issues as you age. It's best to start at about age 16. It doesn't actually stop the growth of your height.
this exercise helps me to build the peak on the forearm, lol, maybe in reverse way is better for me,I mean lifting the dumbbell from the ground,Lifting the dumbbell from ground in air from up to down
i bet alot of you who say steriods dont even know what steriods are. even if he did use steroids (not saying he does) but if he did.... they dont just magically give you mucles.... you still have to work hard as shit.. so stfu nerds and go have a wank or something..
I didn't hear any one say that using steroids doesn't involve as much work? Where did you read that?
Of course he surely had to work his butt of, but in my opinion many steroid (ab)users are out of proportion. This guy seems this way as well. His arms are not natural looking in my opinion.
what does he mean ''peak'' ? does that mean this exercise makes pointy biceps? i hate pointy biceps... which exercise is better for long biceps instead of pointy ones?
@justzchill No it won't stop your growth. What stops it are supplements like steroids, so don't take them. Please don't forget not to take too much weight because you don't want to hurt yoir joints, especially in your age. By the way, I started working out with 15 and my growth didn't stop. ;)
im 13yrs old ( 162cm tall and 8stone) i cant feel any preasure using a 10kg dumbell or a 18kg if im standing, is becuz iim young or because i aint doing it right
He forgot to mention 1 fundamental rule of "biceps-ing". Pull your shoulder blades back as possible, and push your chest out! Your elbows will physically not be able to move forward. However if they do move forward as you're curling up then you're working your anterior deltoids, which means you're not lifting the weight you just grabbed with your biceps.
i am at early teen age and i do seated curl with dumbells ..i heard rumors workout can make you short so does seated curl or any other workout stunt you height growth ..and should i stop and wait a couple more years or continue?
dont accuse someone of steroids just because theyre big... maybe he got his muscles during when he was a teen cause a teenagers body is raging with natural steroids.
can you please explain the difference in actually curling the dumbbells, and rather than just having your arm already curled and going straight up and straight down? and also, what's gained when flexing the bicep while lifting? i'm new to this training haha. thanks.
@viGiLantiSniping Incase no one has responded yet: Curling the bicep at the top is called supinating. By supinating you place greater emphasis on the bicep peak. That's why EZ url bars are not always the best because the don't allow for supination. Also, flexing at the top helps to gorge the muscle with more blood. Blood carries oxygen and nutrients to the blood.
Wow, I've been doing them wrong for the last 4 months. It gotten to the point where I wasn't gaining anymore muscle on my arms it seemed. Tried this tonight and my arms burned hardcore for the first time in over a month, with the SAME weight I was using before.
Is it a good idea if I add 10lbs after every set?

@cynicalhilarity When you've curled to the top, flex your bicep hard and hold it for a second, it adds that extra burn. That's what he means
xDarkside101x 9 months ago
@cynicalhilarity simply by holding dumbbells for a second at the top and twist your wrist inside slowly as much as possible.. u will find this difficult but practise will make it easier.. :)

does lifting dumbbells really stunt your growth?
TheHaloChief117 9 months ago
@TheHaloChief117 Don't weight lift if you're too young, because the muscles haven't fully developed, so you'll develop serious muscle issues as you age. It's best to start at about age 16. It doesn't actually stop the growth of your height.

i bet alot of you who say steriods dont even know what steriods are. even if he did use steroids (not saying he does) but if he did.... they dont just magically give you mucles.... you still have to work hard as shit.. so stfu nerds and go have a wank or something..
jujuman94 10 months ago
@jujuman94
I didn't hear any one say that using steroids doesn't involve as much work? Where did you read that?
Of course he surely had to work his butt of, but in my opinion many steroid (ab)users are out of proportion. This guy seems this way as well. His arms are not natural looking in my opinion.
Behindspace90 10 months ago
what does he mean ''peak'' ? does that mean this exercise makes pointy biceps? i hate pointy biceps... which exercise is better for long biceps instead of pointy ones?

DAtNizzaYOuKnOw 10 months ago
@justzchill No it won't stop your growth. What stops it are supplements like steroids, so don't take them. Please don't forget not to take too much weight because you don't want to hurt yoir joints, especially in your age. By the way, I started working out with 15 and my growth didn't stop. ;)

im 13yrs old ( 162cm tall and 8stone) i cant feel any preasure using a 10kg dumbell or a 18kg if im standing, is becuz iim young or because i aint doing it right
aquinasbutoy 11 months ago
He forgot to mention 1 fundamental rule of "biceps-ing". Pull your shoulder blades back as possible, and push your chest out! Your elbows will physically not be able to move forward. However if they do move forward as you're curling up then you're working your anterior deltoids, which means you're not lifting the weight you just grabbed with your biceps.

can u get bigger bicep with light weights?
bigchillyj 11 months ago
@bigchillyj Here is the information I've gathered...
If the dumbell is of a light weight, do more...
RapperVen 11 months ago
@bigchillyj
"can u get bigger bicep with light weights?"
not as effectively, no:
- there are two types of muscles in your body slow-twitch (endurance muscles) and fast-twitch.
- lots of reps (as with a light weight) will be working your slow-twitch muscles.
- the problem with this is that slow-twitch are a bitch to grow; they tend not to get visibly bigger inspite of gains.
to target fast-twitch (which do get visibly bigger) you should be aiming for a weight you can do 13-15 reps (max)

dont accuse someone of steroids just because theyre big... maybe he got his muscles during when he was a teen cause a teenagers body is raging with natural steroids.

can you please explain the difference in actually curling the dumbbells, and rather than just having your arm already curled and going straight up and straight down? and also, what's gained when flexing the bicep while lifting? i'm new to this training haha. thanks.
viGiLantiSniping 1 year ago
@viGiLantiSniping Incase no one has responded yet: Curling the bicep at the top is called supinating. By supinating you place greater emphasis on the bicep peak. That's why EZ url bars are not always the best because the don't allow for supination. Also, flexing at the top helps to gorge the muscle with more blood. Blood carries oxygen and nutrients to the blood.

He looks just like Carlton when he's looking down at the dumbbells.
cotchery 1 year ago
Wow, I've been doing them wrong for the last 4 months. It gotten to the point where I wasn't gaining anymore muscle on my arms it seemed. Tried this tonight and my arms burned hardcore for the first time in over a month, with the SAME weight I was using before.
