  • Sorry, I can't buy this as a legit submission. No doubt it causes pain but I can't see this causing any real damage, you end up with your hips far away from the shoulder or elbow and are using your arm strength for torque. Am I right?

  • @lsloewen2 Nope. It is a LEGIT submission in every sense of the word and has been done in competition lots as well as on the mats everywhere.I strongly suggest you read Eddie Bravo's books and get his DVD to fully understand this style of jiu jitsu.

  • @lsloewen2

I can vouch that this is legit. I use it and it's stunningly high percentage because it's so out of left field for a lot of guys.

  • @2:00 he can just bite his toe for a toe sumbission

  • hey ari can you give me tips on the carni... everytime i do the rubber guard my opponent pass into half guard before i could even isolate his arm(zombie-new york).how would i resolve this?

would love to hear from you bro.

    youre the man

  • @thetruth042930 Put your foot in the hip.

  • @thetruth042930 Have (for example) your right leg on your opponents hip and mission control locked with your palm facing you (though fist closed) with your wrist around your leg. Do not grab onto your leg like it's a baseball bat. Throughout all this you need to constantly maintain squeezing pressure with your thighs. Everything needs to be tight. Eddie Bravo emphasizes this endless on his videos, I suggest you look for more of those.

  • hey dude what if your partner passed to half guard before you could even do the zombie to new york? would it still work? any suggestions?

    thanks a lot

  • it basically looks like an omoplata mixed with a kimura...

  • Isn't this like the omoplata?

  • whats rubber guard

  • this is a great video it'll definitely improve my omoplata which my brother seems to roll out of everytime

  • sometimes i attempt this and the guy will gable grip his hands together and then i cant finish...any tips?

  • there's a scary shadow on the left :P

  • i like it more than the omoplata

  • Nice! I like the transfer.

  • this is kinda similar to omoplata isnt it?

  • One guy that trains in one of the 10th Planet Schools said it in the comments of an Ediie Bravo "s video from a seminar.

I can"t say it"s not possible because there are not 10 Planeth Schools outside USA and Canadá.

  • This is a great move!... I've watched these videos so much over the last year or so that I've pulled off some of this stuff in class.. i can't wait till 10th planet opens up the new gym in North Dallas!! I'm gonna be there one DAY ONE!

  • really just a variation of the ju-claw

  • I heard once that Carni was the most high percent technique in 10th Planet System.

  • when he steps up to try and get around the rubber guard could you sweep his leg from there?

  • Yeah, you could do a whole multitude of things xD

If you let your rubber guard down and put your feet against their hips, you can easily flip them into mount, and I believe that there's a video from submissions101 that demonstrates it. You could also do a quick scissors sweep, or anything to roll on top of your opponent.

  • its a good move....works perfect, kung fu move sets it up right

  • cool

  • With rubber guard you don't rely on them doing anything. When done correctly, you have any one of the subs available to you. With this one, you can replce the foot on hip with a butterfly and it's the same as if they were trying to pass your guard.

  • NOT kung fu,

It's Kung Fu MOVE, it's a move that was named "kung fu move"

  • I've been using this, except when they step over there leg straighens out, it ends up going straight out infront of them. Still works.. Keep them that little bit lower to the ground, I end up not havint to use my hands to put it on, just turn my legs.

  • why is that generalized as kung fu?

  • I think its called the Kung Fu by the way your hand moves when you pull your foot across his face

  • The move is called "kung fu move." It's not kung fu style, it's just a name. :P

  • isn't this just a modified omoplata?

  • for an omoplata you have to have a kimura to start it while this is just pure rubber guard.

  • How do you figure that you have to have a kimura? He just showed you how to go into it from the rubber guard, dude. This is a shifted omoplata.

  • Yes. It is. People come up with slight variations to moves and think that they've come up with a whole new move. This is just an omoplata with the body shifted.

  • you dont trap your leg in doing a omoplata. why do haters hate? tg for them tho!

  • I know you don't trap your leg doing an omoplata. That's why I said it was a modified omoplata. The actual shoulder crank is the same move, just slightly modified. An example of this is the "reverse keylock" aka a kimura armlock. And as an addition, 10th planet JJ has different names for their moves (coaching tactics and mnemonics for memory of proper technique) and this is just another one of them.

  • cool

  • i like this move, but i really only ever use it when someone makes a sloppy pass attempt in my rubber guard. it doesn't really present itself too often with the higher level guys, so when i roll with someone better than me i tend to just look for a sweep.

  • That's not true, you can change from having your foot on their hip to a butterfly instead. Reguardless if your oppenant is trying to pass your guard or if you replace it with a butterfly, you have to make your move quickly!

Once the leg has been stuffed or it is replaced with a butterfly it won't be long before they start passing your guard.

Keep in mind all of Ari's videos are done slow and the movements are over-exagerated for demonstartion purposes.

Keep up the great work Ari!!

  • i tried this today in training... it didnt work to plan... need to practice this alot before i can use it effectively

  • is 10th planet in victoria BC Canada? I'm assumin so cause i can't think of another victoria. It's pretty cool if it is cause BC is getting some great MMA schools. I just joined up with Toshido in Kelowna which has some amazing guys

  • yep...Victoria BC...Been to Toshido in K town ;-)

  • rather than relying on them to make the move of stepping up, is it possible to force the submission?

  • he kinda does force it a 1:51 when he straightens his leg

  • what does the "cari" stand for? sorry if this was already answered

  • a carni is a person who works at a carnival

  • thx

  • The Carni is named after Carny Wilson and was named by Eddie "Carni" because its not over until the fat lady sings (hence the reference to Carny Wilson and this was the only fat singer he could come up with at the the time.) See his book Mastering the Rubber Guard for a full story.

  • thanks for the reply! the names and the story behind them help me recognize the moves.

  • @Submissions101

10th planet moves have the most ridiculously awesome names..

  • I like the manuever disgnations! LoL! You need to adopt the "Oklahoma" where it focuses on the center (waist). When your opponent takes your back for a rear naked choke, you put your arms around and under his legs and squeeze until he taps (unless he likes having his hips dislocated).... And welcome to Oklahoma ;~D Nice demo, Eddie. 5 star all the way.

  • does the 10th planet system have techniques for passing the rubber guard aswell? it seems like the rubber guard is what its all about.

  • I found a good one the other week: put a fist under your opponent's back, just to the left or right of the 7th vertebrae and drive downward hard. About 80% of the guys I've tried that on release instantly. There are plenty of counters to the fist in the back, but it is an option.

  • whats this "kung fu move"

  • i like the 10th planet system. it seems really effective. but i wouldnt be able to handle all these crazy names that eddie gave the positions.

  • I think it makes it easier to remember, don't you?

  • agreed

  • I think the names are cool. It helps to be able to discuss JJ quickly and refer to positions without having to get on the floor and demonstrate. Whether they are from 10th PJJ or other, if it makes talking about it easier, I see no harm.

  • I've had problems with opponents keeping their leg posted so that I cannot trap the leg to keep them from rolling over. Any suggestions?

  • The reason this isn't the oma plata is because his left leg is trapped there. It is a plan b in the case that your leg gets caught in there. So thats why he isn't doing the oma plata. As for the question about the Go Go from there, it would be somewhat difficult because that leg is trapped, making it difficult to pull off on a bjj educated opponent.

  • i prefer to do the gogoplata....but anyway...carni is cool..

  • that kinda looks like omo plata

  • are running out of ideas? this is a less effective omaplata

  • The point is that the standard omoplata isn't available. As you can see, the other leg is trapped. This is a set up from a different option and position.

  • oh, i didnt think of that, thnx, btw, i didnt mean to offend you ;)

  • @jiujitsufighter32 That's exaclty what it is. But if you want to drill someone defending Kung Fu move in a class, are you going to do "less effective omoplata drills"? When you're rolling with your partner, and you fail the gogo, is "less effective omoplata" going to run through your mind. Moves are named as such to make remembering what they are LESS important, and remembering HOW to do them even more important. Keep it simple, stupid. =D

  • like a kimura on your back with a leg

  • crazy sneaky!

  • I find that I learn a lot more if I just mute the videos.

the techniques are wonderful but I get confused by all the silly names for every single movement.

  • if your bringing your leg up that far in the first place why not just triangle it and make it simpler?

  • b/c neither leg has cleared the shoulder. there's no arm in from this pos.

  • well at first the top leg clears it, but i see what your saying about the arm. thanks :]

  • Looks very similar to an Omoplata.... cool.

  • Is this the same move Royce Gracie did to Akebono?

  • Close, but no it's not the same move. This is more technical, when it comes to stopping the escape. If I remeber right Akebono had the chance to roll out, but he would've rolled into an armbar if he did. Do to the way Royce had a hold if his wrist, and he was laying on his back.

  • Ah ok, they looked alot alike. ty

  • AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHhhhhhhhhhhhhhh man i have s simliar move from the guard but id doesnt work because they always roll out... so i used it as a way of gaining mount!!!! but now.... ILL TRAP THE LEG hahhaa wow guys thanks again!!!!!

  • What if he doesn't try to pass and stays in full guard, how do you stop him from rolling over?

  • just push his hip a little and plant your ankle under his knee, then pull his leg up

  • or you could just go for the omoplata, the carni is just a counter to the pass

  • then just go for the omoplata, the carni is just a counter for the pass

  • thank you! Me & my twin brother was working to escape to the rubber guard 2 hours ago. I was using a half butter fly guard escape with my under hook hand trapping the foot & passing. But now i can straight my leg & kick to the side "the carni" damn back to the drawing board ari you are a pimp!

  • Wow! Its like a super flexy omoplata from rubberguard

  • This Move is sick i love it Saw the vid of eddies Thanks for the explanation

  • man i really want to join a 10th planet JJ gym...but the closest one to me is in Rochester, which is 1hr and a half away...for now i guess i'll just spar with my friends who do BJJ :)...great video, the Carni gets a lot of people

  • Love this move. Need to get it to muscle memory and I'll hit it a lot. Ari, you're a pimp.

  • yes he is

  • sure is

  • Nice
