@guidobela It's on the ground... but I'll admit — it's easier (and less stressful) if you put the Wah Probe on the floor, rather than on your pedalboard.
@xyanide1986 It's a little strange at first... but not that hard once you get used to it. Hell on your calf though — especially when mounted on the board.
@MrFenderbender97 The control sensor thing is a bit gimmicky, but tonally speaking... the Wah Probe delivers. More of a filter than a typical "wah" sound. I dig it.
Awesome, sounds so clean. I never liked crybaby wahs 'cos of the wishy washy noise they make because of the pots, and it gets even worse over time. You wouldn't have to worry about that with this pedal. Although it could get tiring using it for a while and may be a little difficult to balance while standing up and playing after a few drinks
totally agree, and about getting tired, I considered that too, but, I can lean my foot in the border o my pedalboard; problem solved. I like this sound too.
@troykeenanguitar sure man - if you're good at soldering you can, if you're good enough at soldering and electrical stuff im sure you could take it apart and turn it into an overdrive if you really wanted, so i dont see how reversing one control is impossible. lot of money to risk trying it though
The boost circuit in the Box of Rock is a SHO w/ a lower input impedance (which results in a diminished "sparkle" on the top end, like you get with a real SHO). Same goes for the Wah Probe IIRC.
And the BoR is NOT a pair of SHO circuits. The Super Duper 2-in-1 is, but the BoR has a unique distortron OD/Distortion circuit. Same one is in Vex's new Distortron pedal, but that one has an extended gain range and controls for bass filtering. Really nice pedal.
I own a Z Vex Wah Probe along side a Box of Rock and Fuzz Factory. I can tell you from my experience that the Wah probe works great with the Fuzz Factory, wayyyy better than standard wah's without much squealing. Also through my Soldano Slo 100 it sounds amazing with Gain and Leads. Especially with the BOR. The Video doesnt do it justice (no offense) because of the sound compression. But I recommend it over other Wah pedals for soloing with Gain.
YouTube is best for getting a general idea of how stuff sounds and is seldom a faithful representation of how stuff like this truly sounds. IMO ... the only way to really know is to try it yourself.
Oh haha, no i didnt mean that your playing is bad. Just the compression of the sound, also seen in some websites. I agree that the best way to get the full representation is by trying it out, sometimes its hard to do that too when you want to try out a boutique pedal not offered at your nearby store. Furthermore, if you do find it at the store, sometimes you cant crank it up...I hate buying it, trying it and then returning it, such a hassle. Anyway, I love my Wah Probe would be my main comment.
Right. I completely agree... I've A/B'd the YouTube quality of certain vidz that I've put up with the actual audio files -- no comparison. And again, I totally agree: TRY BEFORE YOU BUY. Like I said, YouTube is good for getting a general idea of what pedals sounds like, the only way to really know how something sounds is to try it yourself.
And again, yes... Wah Probe is awesome. One of two wahs I actually like. :D
Ahh my good friend I am so stoked you have this pedal, I've been looking to ask someone about this pedal. How is it working out for you? Compared to a traditional wah what are the pros and cons? I'm on the hunt for something new in a wah but still want it to have classic tones. It seems cool and easy to use, voiced nicely and small.
Sadly, I don't have it any longer -- had to sell it to fund a guitar purchase about 6 months ago. If you're looking "classic" wah tones though, this isn't for you. This has more of a synthy tone than a traditional wah pedal IMO, a lot like the wah I replaced it with, the DOD FX-17. I'm not a big fan of standard wah tones, so I liked this one quite a bit.
Might I suggest you check out the Teese offerings, or perhaps the Budda Bud Wah -- probably more along the lines of what you're looking for.
I'd almost recommend NOT putting it on your board. The angle can be rather cramp inducing (at least it was for me) ..... besides -- wah's were meant to be on the floor, right? :p
Think of it this way: when you move your foot away from the Wah Probe (when engaged) it acts like a treadle-style wah w/ the treadle all the way down. Real low-frequency, not a lot of the "Q" sound, a little dull; volume is the same, but the tone is altered and opposite the high-ended harshness of a wah being all the way up.
oh, ok, so its like a crybaby in the toe-up position. i guess theres no way to set it to turn off if ur foots away from it is there. hmmm, i guess i could always get it modded somehow :(
Sort of, but don't confuse the actual sound w/ a Crybaby, because I don't think it sounds anything like one of those. It's more -- synth-like really. Less wah, more modulation; but still wah. Hope that makes sense.
Hey is your heel on the ground or are you hovering your foot. That would kill my lower back.

That proximity thing seems a bitch to control precisely or is that just me.

why the fuck would anybody want to float there foot over a pad instead of just using a wah rofl i dont get it lol
ganjaking187 11 months ago
@ganjaking187
`cause it's something different, besides, it uses less space than a conventional wah.

Can you modify it to work in reverse (more bass when you're closer to it and treble as you wove away)?
troykeenanguitar 2 years ago
It's somewhat tweakable, but I'm fairly sure that isn't possible.

funny since the BOR and the boost in the wha are, for the most part, both just SHO circuits (there's just a couple SHOs together in the BOR)

hey there, nice demo. I;m about to buy one, but I'm still not sure if it can handle the fuzz factory and really scream at solos..

I'm pretty sure it'll be fine. Most of Vex's stuff seems to get along nicely.
