GM and Ford bought up all the light rails (same in europe but different car companies) but now they are being returned in Europe and in our New York Area! So exciting... Jersey City and Newark have light rails that are legitimately awesome....
Maryland used to have trolly lines running everywhere but over time they were replaced by buses, but now with gas as it is...well, they regret that decision. Anyway, there are some ideas floating around to build an east-west lightrail in the years ahead.
Uh, yeah, it's pretty bad when voters reject a light rail plan by a 2 to 1 margin, the Amtrak only comes at 3 in the morning, and almost the only people who take public transportation are the people who can't afford to drive.
I saw where Albuquerque has a light rail in place, as does Phoenix, Minneapolis, Charlotte, Seattle, Portland, too.
This terrible, backwards town I live in (birmingham, alabama) they don't want anything of a progressive nature in this area that all can benefit from, there are definitely forces at work within the so-called leadership culture to keep this town docile and co-dependent on people who don't even live here, but that's how sorry the mayor and city council in birmingham are.
What you have to do is get the young people out there to vote on stuff like this because thats the problem the good ole boys are running the show. Raleigh is going through the same mess.

Replace Maryland with other states and you have the same story and they are all regretting doing that. Blame GM for that though.

the light rail, needs to run from west to east as well, not just north and south, this state needs decent transportation, not piss poor, which it has
TonyTheMuscles 3 years ago
Oh, believe me, Maryland does not have "piss poor" transportation. If you want to see that, take a road trip to Ohio (notice I said a ROAD trip).
mjsax2390 3 years ago
lol, is it that bad out there

I am in the exact same situation living where I do now in Cincinnati, Ohio! Voters rejected a light rail proposal 2:1 back in 2002.
