It's nowhere near gamebreaking, as it's been stated before. People are still leveling, druids are still kiting, necros are still fearing. Fact is, it's not as big of a deal as you're making it out to be. If it were, it would be a bigger topic for discussion with the developers when in truth, it's pretty fucking low on the totem pole.

@Nedala88 Yeah ik I've tried installing it and re-trying many times and even trying to windows 7 fix and compatibility mode. I get a GU XML error or something along those lines. I'm happy playin SoD tho so it's all good =p
@Nedala88 a ton of things arent classic, for instance necro pets are far from classic. The sky, the weather it use to get super dark so it would be hard to find your corpse. Thats just the beginning, the spell effects aren't classic ( i know your gonna try to claim they are but look up a real classic video and you will tell its far from classic)
@6762bmx Spell effects are exactly classic. As well as pretty much anything else. The server is as classic as it can get, and way better than any poor attempt of soe to recreate classic.

@6762bmx it runs from a client thats not classic, but its HEAVILY MODIFIED to classic. so what the hell is your point, i dont get it. Running from a newer client is no argument that it isn't classic. There are very FEW minor things that are not classic, you make it sound like its just new client minus the newer zones but that's just not true. The server is as classic as it can get and you barely notice any different. So stop making it sound like it's far away from classic, cause its not.

I hate Sony so much for not releasing a classic server. They could even release several with different limits, like one only goes to vanilla, another kunark, another velious or PoP etc. People would easily pay $50/month for it, like that legends server or whatever.
Over 20 years of gaming.......I can honestly say, best game ever made. Nothing compares and I still continue to look for something to replace it all these years later.
I spent the last month leveling up in EC dervs, Oasis crocs, Upper Guk, all those amazing old classic zones..with PERFECT loot tables and everything...

@punyo4u lots of ppl. i played on Tallon zek (pvp server) and every zone there was pvping and there were spots in each zone that ppl know to find you. it was the best. but very crowded. way better than WoW. wow did indeed ruined MMORPG.
Project 1999 is pretty awesome, the part I don't like though is how long it takes to regen hit points and mana after a fight. I've been playing on other servers lately just because I know how much time it takes to get to level 50 if you have other things and games you want to do/play. :)

Registering now. Developers are all volunteers so they are taking time out of their own lives to dedicate to this project. We are all eagerly awaiting its completion.

I've played WoW, and it does not compare, but sadly EQ doesn't now. There was something about meding, the slow level progression, traveling by boat. I remember the chessboard in the dwarf lands (sorry, been about 6 years, the names are fuzzy) and just feeling like "wow, what adventures will I face. I know it's not popular now in mmorpg's, but one of the things I loved was how roleplaying was enforced, and even though it seems silly now, the "M'lords" and "M'lady's" really made the game special.
the biggest thing for me was the lack of maps, day and night (night actually being dark), KOS npcs and just generally being able to get lost and explore. Gave me the feeling of not knowing what ill find next. which really brought the game to life.
I wish they would remake EQ. Same concept & classes zones etc. update the graphics, you know modernize the game. i think it would be nice. they changed far too much on EQ2
I played both EQ and WoW for over 4 years. and I'll tell you that I didn't enjoy WoW the way I enjoyed EQ. I would go back to EQ classic in a heartbeat - actually - i quit MMORPG's all together because everything is handed to you on a silver platter, and frankly, im sick of it. I want a challenge in an MMORPG and EQ offers that. I miss all the small things like no aggro range on mobs, trains to zones, no douche bag noobs (like in WoW) corpse running, no maps, feeling emotions during gameplay.
I agree completely, DdragonforceF. You also forgot the to mention the sense of community that was felt when all the antisocial people quit the game at low level because in this game, you had to group from early on in order to level to the cap and gear out properly, unless you were a skilled players.
That's another thing this game's toughness forced. It made the bad players quit at lower level as they died and incurred hours of experience loss or they lost their corpse because they were THAT bad

The majority of people in the world are bad at games, and since the majority of people allow these games to succeed, they take over how games evolve. Which is exactly why MMORPG's in this day and age are the easiest pieces of crap to ever exist, and since the game creators only care about money, they are only going to make the game as easy as possible for noobs. April of 99, I fell through the rabbit hole and I was in "their world" for 6 years. To this day, I miss this game and the pangs of nostalgia have not eased up one bit! I met my husband in this game, and we've been together 6 and 1/2 years now. Every time I hear the theme music my mind takes me back. Happy 10 years EQ!

Could you explain to me what makes Luclin such a terrible expansion? I played EQ on Mac for a year and I can understand how PoP makes the game too easy, in a way, due to the books. However, all Luclin really added was a graphical improvement and newbie armors, right? :P
Graphical improvement? My friends and I hated the new models. I quit before Luclin even came out, but my friends followed suit soon after they bought it.
I know I had the option to turn on old models, but I wanted the option to ALSO force OTHER people to see my character as an old model. I should have that right to decide how my character model appears to others.
Let's not get started on the furries, the moon and sci-fi elements in a high fantasy MMORPG...
Dude Luclin changed the entrire game dramatically, how hard things hit after that expansion was really just ridiculous, i remember never be as invested in the game after that and quit, it didn't go with the story line at all, and the models were terrible.
the nexus provided free ports to anywhere also making the game easier, the new graphics consisted of all new shit animations and players to sit on their knees waiting to orally pleasure someone.
and newbies need to be happy with the faded blue cloth tunic their predecessors wore before them.
Wish I could speed this process up, I've been dying to play old EQ for a LONG time. It's only the best MMO because it has a great difficulty curve back in the early stages. Not for those that want a simple mindless game that provides entertainment.
I can't seem to play another MMO without comparing it to the original Everquest, but all other MMOs fall short. The seem to have the eye candy, but they lack a soul. They all seem to cater to the ADHD generation.
Anyhow, I would love to go back to the nostalgia of EQ, but I'm certain that a PVP server is out of the question for this project.

private server, if u have your original Everquest CDs you might be able to install from those, then hook up to their server for patching.

From launch of EQ to the release of Velious was the best time in EQ for me. I played an enchanter on Mithaniel Marr from the beginning till the release of Luclin and that was when I knew the game I loved so much was dead to me.
I hear that. I started an Iksar Shadow Knight and didn't leave Kunark until I hit 55... parts of luclin and PoP destroyed that game. It's a shame Sony torpedoed EQ Classing, money hungry fucks...

Yes Everquest Classic is still going. Please go to Grubb's database (EQCDB) site or install Mozilla IRC plug-in to join the channel and see the tracker list where they update recent changes made to the server.

@punyo4u lots of ppl. i played on Tallon zek (pvp server) and every zone there was pvping and there were spots in each zone that ppl know to find you. it was the best. but very crowded. way better than WoW. wow did indeed ruined MMORPG.

Project 1999 is pretty awesome, the part I don't like though is how long it takes to regen hit points and mana after a fight. I've been playing on other servers lately just because I know how much time it takes to get to level 50 if you have other things and games you want to do/play. :)

I've played WoW, and it does not compare, but sadly EQ doesn't now. There was something about meding, the slow level progression, traveling by boat. I remember the chessboard in the dwarf lands (sorry, been about 6 years, the names are fuzzy) and just feeling like "wow, what adventures will I face. I know it's not popular now in mmorpg's, but one of the things I loved was how roleplaying was enforced, and even though it seems silly now, the "M'lords" and "M'lady's" really made the game special.

the biggest thing for me was the lack of maps, day and night (night actually being dark), KOS npcs and just generally being able to get lost and explore. Gave me the feeling of not knowing what ill find next. which really brought the game to life.

I played both EQ and WoW for over 4 years. and I'll tell you that I didn't enjoy WoW the way I enjoyed EQ. I would go back to EQ classic in a heartbeat - actually - i quit MMORPG's all together because everything is handed to you on a silver platter, and frankly, im sick of it. I want a challenge in an MMORPG and EQ offers that. I miss all the small things like no aggro range on mobs, trains to zones, no douche bag noobs (like in WoW) corpse running, no maps, feeling emotions during gameplay.

I agree completely, DdragonforceF. You also forgot the to mention the sense of community that was felt when all the antisocial people quit the game at low level because in this game, you had to group from early on in order to level to the cap and gear out properly, unless you were a skilled players.
That's another thing this game's toughness forced. It made the bad players quit at lower level as they died and incurred hours of experience loss or they lost their corpse because they were THAT bad

Well said. EQ players should have seen this coming. The majority of people in the world are bad at games, and since the majority of people allow these games to succeed, they take over how games evolve. Which is exactly why MMORPG's in this day and age are the easiest pieces of crap to ever exist, and since the game creators only care about money, they are only going to make the game as easy as possible for noobs. So frustrating. I like your view on the EQ community, and how noobs got faded out.

April of 99, I fell through the rabbit hole and I was in "their world" for 6 years. To this day, I miss this game and the pangs of nostalgia have not eased up one bit! I met my husband in this game, and we've been together 6 and 1/2 years now. Every time I hear the theme music my mind takes me back. Happy 10 years EQ!

Could you explain to me what makes Luclin such a terrible expansion? I played EQ on Mac for a year and I can understand how PoP makes the game too easy, in a way, due to the books. However, all Luclin really added was a graphical improvement and newbie armors, right? :P

Graphical improvement? My friends and I hated the new models. I quit before Luclin even came out, but my friends followed suit soon after they bought it.
I know I had the option to turn on old models, but I wanted the option to ALSO force OTHER people to see my character as an old model. I should have that right to decide how my character model appears to others.
Let's not get started on the furries, the moon and sci-fi elements in a high fantasy MMORPG...

Dude Luclin changed the entrire game dramatically, how hard things hit after that expansion was really just ridiculous, i remember never be as invested in the game after that and quit, it didn't go with the story line at all, and the models were terrible.

the nexus provided free ports to anywhere also making the game easier, the new graphics consisted of all new shit animations and players to sit on their knees waiting to orally pleasure someone.
and newbies need to be happy with the faded blue cloth tunic their predecessors wore before them.

Wish I could speed this process up, I've been dying to play old EQ for a LONG time. It's only the best MMO because it has a great difficulty curve back in the early stages. Not for those that want a simple mindless game that provides entertainment.

I can't seem to play another MMO without comparing it to the original Everquest, but all other MMOs fall short. The seem to have the eye candy, but they lack a soul. They all seem to cater to the ADHD generation.
Anyhow, I would love to go back to the nostalgia of EQ, but I'm certain that a PVP server is out of the question for this project.

private server, if u have your original Everquest CDs you might be able to install from those, then hook up to their server for patching.
definately visit EQClassic dott org and the IRC channel. if u got mozilla, download Chatzilla irc plugin, and then just join #EQC and chill with everyone.

From launch of EQ to the release of Velious was the best time in EQ for me. I played an enchanter on Mithaniel Marr from the beginning till the release of Luclin and that was when I knew the game I loved so much was dead to me.

the torpedo never hit. they just took the site down because it took too much from the team to manage. the dev team since has still been working on it.

Some will, some wont. Most of the EQC community are those like myself who played WoW, Conan, and Warhammer, and are on the rapidly growing list of discontent gamers ready to go back.
If Warhammer is the future of MMOs then I will be glad that EQC will be my last big adventure. If the server launches, wonderful. If not, then at least feeling the hope was wonderful enough and it will drive others to try.

Yes Everquest Classic is still going. Please go to Grubb's database (EQCDB) site or install Mozilla IRC plug-in to join the channel and see the tracker list where they update recent changes made to the server.
The site consumed too much of their time to maintain, so I guess it is more efficient on their time to keep it down. Cya in IRC.
