  • I have a copy, on audio and not visually, of "Candles" :30R, :60R and :90R on DAT. I have to transfer on hard copy. I have archive copies of some of the commercials on TV video on storage in another place. If it is their in storage, I have to arrange the transfer because, in my memory, it's on 1 inch tape. And the machine tape is not standard now.

  • I was the production coordinator on this commercial and proud to have been apart of it ... :o)

  • I'm glad I found the commercial, but you really need to take that crap off of the end of this clip. Not withstanding this clip, in which it's totally out of place, but it's horrible and stupid. I was going to link to this on Twitter and a message board, but I'll pass now. I'll see if I can find another one.

  • I love this commercial....we need to come together

  • I don't know what that crap is at the end... but this is the best commercial ever- to pay tribute to Dr. King.

  • Thank you!

  • I am Paul David Wilson and I wrote the music. With the commercial, "Candles," Emma L. Young wrote a very touching lyrics. Inspired, I composed a melody, underneath accompanying chords progression, and then I arranged and produced the music. We did record at Universal Studios, studio A, in Chicago. My music and contribution was, and is, still meaningful to me and hopefully you too. Dr. Martin Luther King, his dreams still lives.

  • @padavon Thank you so much for all the absolutely fanatic information. I have added it to the keywords for easy searching. I did the same for your cowriter.

  • @padavon you and ms young are truly amazing ppl and i want to think you for giving me some warm to hold and cherish from childhood those wrd might be the most touching of any song and i would love to have a more clear version of this on youtube

  • One other thing. The vocalist was Kitty Haywood. For the 60 second radio version, Paul Wilson assembled about 20 voices with Kitty at the lead. Her son, Jason, was about 6 or 7 years old and he was one of the singers. He said he wanted to be a singer like his mother when he grew up. He is a professional vocalist today.

  • My name is Emma Young and I wrote this commercial. The music was produced by Paul David Wilson of Herschel Commercial. Anna Morris directed the commercial. The art director's name was Ray Steller. Ray passed on in 1989. The commercial was written in 1985 or 1986. The agency was Burrell Communications in Chicago, Illinois. My email is emmayoung001@comcast.net

  • I ALWAYS LOVED THIS COMMERICIAL

  • @millionarebizzyb I agree with you. Honeslty, I'm not crazy about McDonald's food (I've been McDonald's sober since August 2009 and I haven't had McDonald's food ever since) but McDonald's has to have more commercials like this. These were the days.

Have a great day, a great night, a great weekend, a great Advent and a Merry Christmas! Puerto Rican Love from New York City!

  • Wow!! It is amazing how so many people loved this commercial. i loved this commercial becaused it was so touching. The candles represent the message Dr. King was trying to get across. We never lose anything when we can come together and help one another. Just like the candles are lit from another candle, we gain much from our sisters and brothers, when we come together.

  • I remember this commercial and looked forward to it every year. It's been a while since they played it.

  • love this commercial soo much

  • i love that commercial!!!

  • I use to love this commericial....I was in elementary school back then, I use to sing it like I was in church! My mom made us light candles because of it! LOL Thanks for posting this!

  • I believe Mickey D's still airs these Dr. King spots around the time of the holiday. Nowadays, though, its more of a "hymn" spiritual kind of thing. The lyrics are gone. But the voiceover still comes on at the end--which still gives me goosebumps, amazingly (just like it did back in the 90's-0:22). I know that's a good thing. And I don't think they light that many candles anymore. Maybe a handful, but not that many! Lol... They also show a lot more photos of Dr. King. It's still very moving....

  • @BrooklynEagle nah they dont air this commercial anymore they been stopped

  • Oh, yeah! Definitely remember this one! Very moving at the time. Made me feel good to be an African-American. And I finally felt like I understood the real meaning of the holiday. I finally understood that it just wasn't a day off from school...that man actually stood for a LOT. And a LOT of people--it just wasn't about Dr. King. I finally understood he represented many others who fought hard for freedom and equality. McDonald's actually taught me a lesson back in '93. Nice work, Mickey D's! :)

  • Thank you for this commercial! I will always remember the song because it is so nice for Martin Luther King Jr. Day

  • WOW THIS IS CLASSIC
