I happen to like this song. All I can do is close my eyes and think of all that I have done. The sensation of a daunting shift with outcomes of heart aches..... All worth it in the end because we are nurses (Regardless of specialty).
These ads have encouraged more and more people to go to nursing school and graduate only to find ... NOTHING! No jobs. I graduated in May and still cannot find any kind of a nursing job anywhere. Do not even get responses to my resumes. I did a small study and found out that facilities are only hiring 1-3 new grads but no more than that. Nursing programs are pumping out new grads to the max.
@Tankweti - I'm sorry to hear that, Tankweti. Please don't give up searching for a nursing position though! I remember what nursing school was like - so much sweat and tears to earn that RN title after your name. Try looking for nursing positions outside of your current location, maybe in other states. Apply even if the job description says more experience "preferred" and don't limit yourself to your favorite specialty - as long as you get your foot in the door.
@Tankweti I graduated two years ago no job still BSN went on scholarship to the University of Cincinnati in a MSN program. My university's hospital will not hire me till I work a year somewhere else.
As a nurse for over 20 years, I am highly offended that people will sit and criticize a desk nurse! You have to work your way up to those jobs. Also, they know just as much as any other RN. People need to start criticizing the nurses that steel narcotics, mistreat patients, and put patients lives in danger. Those are the nurses that need criticized, not desk nurses. After, a nurse is a nurse, and they all make a difference!
@bishop2726 You mean you have to rat your way to those jobs. Nobody gets a desk job unless they are a fat assed rat. A nurse is not always a nurse. Never compare fat assed desk RNs to the ass kicking life savers that work the bedside day after day.
This commercial and song are so cheesy and horrible. The whole "You're a nurse, you make a difference" makes me cringe. I know nursing is important (though I'm tired of hearing how nurses make so little, especially when they can make a lot and definitely make more than my degree, which requires more education and is also a helping profession), but they could really promote it better.
@Djpupsta69 You think? From what my mom tells me, Dean of a local college back home, the nursing program has the highest dropout/failure rate of all programs at her college.
@Djpupsta69: Really.......maybe you should go to nursing school before deciding its a joke, cause we have to know what the doctors know plus some. Nurses aren't the highest paid healthcare professionals out there, yet we get the blame for mistakes and no credit when we fix it. And we go to school for a minimum of four years for a BSN. Oh, but I forgot paramedics think they know everything and are better than nurses.
I am currently in nursing school and whenever we have a seminar and all of us are milling around waiting for everyone to arrive and get started our instructors play this song on continuous loop. We all joke that we want it for our Ring Tones. It's almost our anthem. :)
This is a hideous ad. This gooey gospel music is putrid. Couple that with an African-American nurse being hero and zapping a patient gives a racially patronizing message. By the way where in heck is the doctor when the code is being worked? Can nurses zap anyone with other than the AED?
If people want more nurses I say destroy government inefficiency that breeds office politics, give them more money to do their jobs, and discontiue the caste system in medicine.
Why don't they show the fat nurses sitting in the nurses station eating donuts while the patients are dying? That is the reality of nursing these days. Fat and lazy.
there isnt a nursing shortage just because some want out, it's mostly because there aren't enough faculty in the schools to get enough students through to fill all positions. I think any promotion of nursing is important considering the current and future dangers of a shortage, but this commercial kinda sucked
the shortage is because so many want out. NSG schools closed because no one was going into NSG school. now lots of people are out of work and they want to become nurses.....in part due to BS ads like this that hide what the job is like.
I've been an OR nurse for 23 years. A BEDSIDE nurse, just like you claim to be, and I'm someone who neither bows to administration nor takes crap from someone like you. As far as the pay, I support myself very nicely on my paycheck, thank you very much. You must be horribly insecure to strike out at colleagues the way you do. And DON'T tell anyone to shut up on a public forum. If you can't take the debate, don't post.
Who's lost? The reason for the nursing shortage is the lack of nursing instructors. After spending 25K or more on a MSN, most refuse to take the substandard pay that universities offer. Because of that, most Master's prepared nurses work as administrators, consultants, and yes, hospital educators.
Being a nurse is no garden walk, I can assure you. However, if you care about people and the profession, and not just a paycheck, nursing may be the place for you.
This seems like a much better alternative to my experience at UW. It seems like the teachers want to really help the students. Compare this to my experience in the video "Fatal Lab Accident Caught on Tape! (Buckystein #5)" then enroll here.
