I agree with the kepiblanc2007 it would be a good idea to incorporate a native dress into the military...but i would put as parade purposes as first nations is a deep part of our heritage that we should not forget
Give these Canadians a British passport if you are going to outfit them in the scarlet uniform. These loyalists were the only faithful subjects to the last. A right to dual nationality (excepting immigrants who naturalized as Canadians with no ties to UK) and a British passport upon service in this Canadian military should be also then considered if they are going to serve the Queen on this capacity wearing her full suit of arms.
How dare you insult me and my regiments heritage. The Governor General's Foot Guards are offically allied with the Coldstream Guards in Britan. We are so close that the GGFG are concidered to be the second batalion of the Coldstream Guards (thus why our buttons run two by two on the tunic). To deny this would be to deny the foundations and the core values that the unit is proud to portray.
Hey. Im kepi`s friend. I am first nations, and I say all of you, this is our Native land, so fuck this tradition all together. We the First Nations people should be designing our dresses. So how is that, no Chinese or British decide!
I am fairly certain that First Nations units have a form of ceremonial dress that relfects their traditions and ties to the native community. The scarlet red reflects the GGFG, CGG and many other regiments roots in britan. The Van-Doos (royal 22e régiment) wear british scarlets and they havent honored the traditions or many regulations of the CF for years ( watch Canadian Army Parade for an example of of the Shit drill they like to show off).

I like to say that as a Canadian born Chinese that I was greatly disapointed in seeing our own countrymen dressed up like wannabee Buckingham palace guards straight out of England. We are multicultural society so we should change the unform because we Canadians of Asian heritage be it Korean or Japanese couldn't give a hoot for your redcoat! Make it green or something to suit Canada as our unique multicultural heritage. Aussies and Kiwis scrapped it already.
Well as much as the uniforms were not different, the cultural heritage of the band members were. We had all sorts of people from all sorts of different backgrounds that enjoyed playing with the band and getting all dressed up. Keep in mind that this Canada's military is very closely tied to that of Great Britain. But trust me when I say I know what you mean and you make a good point.
Thanks for your response. What colour do you think would be suitable for Canada? I am sure that no one will mind if Canada changed her scarlet to green, and changed it completely to reflect solely Canada. Maybe more French Canadians and other Canadians too will join up, and would only stregthen Canada's military, not destroy it.
Kepiblanc, I'd like to point out, Candadian Forces Dress uniform is green, or blue, or black depending on which element you are apart of. The Ceremonial guard is made up of two regiments who's formal uniform has (since their inception) have been Scarlets. Many Canadian regiments maintain links to their British (or Scottish as the case may be) counter parts for example the Black Watch RHR.
As a Canadian Chinese in the Canadian army before I say you are one igorant fool. Our military heritage is a sub-culture of our multicultural heritage so to destroy it for the sake of multiculturalism is to destroy multiculturalism itself. Our full dress has been worn by commonwealth armies long before Canada became a multicultural society as we know it. Now not just the we but many Commonwealth troops (e.g. India) wear them as well.
Further to what I said before Canada's army does have a green service dress that looks different from the Brits' No.2 service dress. Ironically with that uniform we now look more like the U.S. army than ever. Are you gonna say we are Americans wanna be now?
I would like to say as a China-born Canadian that I respect and appreciate that we have been able maintain some traditions that reflect the pride we share in some of our heritages - The Changing of the Guard, Dragon Boat Races and Lion Dances, Sweet Grass Ceremonies - Unfortunately, some people take pleasure in rather distasteful tradition - mocking that which they do not understand. I have served with the Guard, and you haven't. You clearly don't understand, so shut up until you do.
@kepiblanc2007 canada is of british and french heritiage, the very foundation. a country should not change to suit the desires of immigrants. immigrants should come to the new country willing to assimilate and follow/support the traditions, not try to change them.
@kepiblanc2007 You must be kidding. I hope you are. Perhaps you'd like to redesign Parliament, scrap the Westminster system of government, abolish free speech, these are all part of OUR British heritage. Not multicultural enough, eh? Canada is what it is because of our founding peoples. I'm not of British descent. I have not one drop of Anglo-Saxon blood, but I'm damn proud to be CANADIAN & being CANADIAN means something, it is a history, and not just a collection of people
@kepiblanc2007 Canada is multicultural, sure. That includes Britain. And if you don't care about the uniform, than learn some Canadian history. Also, these regiments, the songs they play, and the uniforms they wear pre-date and are part of the formation of Canada. They are as much Canadian as they are British. Changing a single thing about it would be a shame, because it would be giving up our own heritage. This is only the full dress uniform of 2 particular regiments. They normally wear green.
@kepiblanc2007 Look at the soldiers in this video, how many Chinese-Canadians do you see? There are approx. 250 Soldiers with the Ceremonial Guard each year, this past year there were 2. How many of the other soldiers do you think are of Western European descent? Why should we destroy century old military traditions to please a small minority? The uniform does not represent Canada but the past sacrifices of the individuals that make up the forces, BTW Full dress uniforms are paid by donation...
They look just like the English don't you think. Only Canada keeps up your redcoat heritage outside of the UK. Not in Australia, not in New Zeland. Now give these chaps the right of abode, and a new British passport for their dual citizenship.
just because canada is multicultural doesn't mean that we have to forget the country's original roots. keep the red coat.
and im chinese.
