Y'know, this song sounds like a traditional Jewish dance, and the Count IS wearing a yamaka (my appologies for the most likely incorrect spelling)... Or maybe it's just a little beanie cap and I'm looking way too far into this.
I remember a clip when a boy is having a bad day and when he gets home his cat has some new kittens, and a blues song "You can't always get what you want" is sung in the background. Does anyone have it or know where I can find it? That might have been Canadian, since I saw it on Canada's Sesame Park. For those of you who live in Canada, maybe you know about it?
I'll count Gregory and sue that makes number 1 & 2 I'll count Boris & Igor that makes number 3 & 4 Morris Jane & Eloise 5 6 7 if you please Theodore and Adaline make number 8 & number 9, and then, I will count Ben, Ben is number 10..

It took me many years to realize it, but I now see it to be true. He's a walking stereotype: the nose, the yiddish accent... At least they had the restraint not to make him obsessed with counting pennies, although I'm sure that they just barely kept the writers from doing that.
Romanian and specifically those from Transylvania - are they typically Jewish? Again - I believe this is a take on Count Dracula who was Eastern European, but I do not believe it's ever been suggested by anyone that Count Dracula was Jewish. I could see how one could think that this was a Jewish stereotype, but I truly believe it was never their intention.
There *was* an early 70s episode which had the Count counting money in his bank account (literally millions of singles) as the teller looked on; the scene cut back and forth to this running gag. I never associated that with anti-Semitism myself--the accent and the money could have applied to any count as a wealthy foreigner--but as an adult, I can see why some Jewish parents might've objected to that portrayal. (I never recalled seeing it more than once, so it must've been dropped...)
It depends on which denomination you are. The count's yarmulke looks like he would be Modern Orthodox, since it's multi-colored and seemingly knitted. Peace.
Sue, Jane, and Ben seem out of place among all the Count's less simply named classmates. Still, this is one of his best musical numbers (no pun intended): 1-2-3-4-5, 5 stars! Ah-ah-ah!

Did you notice that all the other kids he counts after ten don't have names that rhyme with numbers?
Why couldn't they have a kid named "Kevin" as number seven? Also, doesn't it seem interesting that a vampire would count a kid named "Igor".
MichaelBrookham 7 months ago
@MichaelBrookham I just assumed that there was a large eastern european population where he went to school. Which would make sense, given his accent.

It's amazing that the Count has done so well for himself considering his severe OCD. He was easily my favorite character when I was a kid.

@BaggyJeansBoy
No, they aren´t. Most of them are Romanian orthodox. So they are Christians.
The original Dracula - Vlad Tepes - was born Romanian Orthodox and converted to Catholizism later.
After all, he is feared of crucifixes, that would be a bit strange, if he was Jewish...

The Count is way more likely to be Orthodox than Jewish. I'm surprised anyone even made that accusation in the first place. Weird.

Its because he looks like he's wearing a yamaca when he's younger.
