A pet kitten that Jim Chappell and his girlfriend adopted from a kennel had a rare form of leukemia. Jim took the kitten back to the vet after medication proved fruitless for a cure. Mr. Chappell held the kitten while the vet cured its pain by putting it down. Jim wrote "Gone" a few days later while thinking of this cute little kitten that had blessed his girlfriend and him.

thank you so much. now as i listen to the song i cry for the loos of my dog Layla who also got very sick and i had to hold her also while she took her last breaths. but i had Layla for 12 years and i still can not bring myself to think about another dog. well, maybe someday.

Has to be one of my favorites of yours. I really enjoy closing my eyes and allowing the music to permeate my fatigued outer shell, allowing me to relax to this calm piece. You really have a gift! Definitely stirs some touching memories of the seasons.
