  • i think this took a very very long time to build even if it isn't from scratch

  • @MrGroundpounderz Being semi retired at the time and I managed to work on it for 10-12 hours a day at times, it took only 6-months. I continue to add or change details but the ship itself is about the same as when I built it. Thanks for taking time to write, I appreciate it--and as you know--it never rains on the Airborne but when we become infantry we become ground pounder's as well.

  • Super cool!!

  • Awesome, thanks for posting

  • Love it ! - Better than Scarborough Naval Warfare Show !

  • @TheFireworkShopUk Thank you very much. I appreciate you taking time to write.

  • sooo cool -0-

  • @1kimsland Thank you sir, I appreciate you taking time to write.

  • Oh my! That is so cool! My four year old is a ship fanatic! How and where can we get involved in something like this?

Thank you for posting this; again, this is awesome-

  • I want one!!!

  • Nice! :)

  • beyond cool...great vid

  • @deathbutt09 I guess the old wives tale that wealth will cure stupidity is true in your case.. Is everyone in your circle of acquaintences as ignorant and as ugly as you?

  • THE HMS SURPRISE FLING AND AMERICAN FLAG LOVE IT BUT SERIOUSLY GET A SMALL ENGLISH FALG TO PUT ON THE SHIP IT WILL MAKE IT LOOK SO MUCH MORE LIKE THE REAL SHIP

  • @casperelle1 Why? The POMES lost that war and we colonialists gained freedom from the crown--but we are slowly becoming more socialist just like them. Anyway if you look at some of the fleet sail videos we have up you'll see we were flying that little POME ensign.

  • @formerparatrooper Lol Britain isn't socialist, ;) Amazing model by the way! Which HMS Surprise is this one? There have been 13 in all.

  • @kdum8 I think my Surprise is hull number 021.

  • That is awesome. Any chance of uploading a broadside? :)

  • @crazedNdiffused All we will be capable of doing is a rolling broadside because of the electronic firing mechanism but we are working on some new guns--stay tuned.

  • That is brilliant!

  • What would be great if you had another model and outfit the cannons with ammunition and stage a sea fight. :D

  • @dgg094 Never load a projectile in a gun such as these. We do have some videos of gun fights with other ships--see other videos on my channel.

  • Does it have a propeller and an electric motor for "just in case"? Cool ship!

  • @crispyspa No sir, no auxillary power at all. I do have a chase boat if it is necessry to tow her back and that has happend.

  • The on deck shots were great.

  • @johnghjkl Thank you.

  • is the sound real??

  • @Whatsup1492 Dubbed in

  • That was sweeeeeeet!!...nice sound effects too...

I think you did a fine job!..............

  • @MnktoDave Thank you--you've made my day. Your You Tube channel is nicely done as well.

  • @omarcurrossimon And your video of your ship is where? Is everyone in your circle of friends as ridiculous as you?

  • @unitednudistmop No--YOU'RE the FAKE.

  • Now put some real shots made off clay or something; and sink something!

  • Well done!

  • gyro's?

  • @bbglas007 Not sure what you area asking--but no mechanical devices except for the sail winches.

  • @formerparatrooper I think he meant Gyroscope, which is usually use to keep RC bikes, helicopter, etc. balanced. Even though I don't see why a boat needs one.

  • @ronz706 No, nothing like that is needed. I do have a 40# keel that bolts on and that acts like a gyro as far as the water is concerned.

Never never try to load a gun with shot on this type of platform--you'll shoot'chr eye out!

  • @ronz706 Ah, just for the cannons so they stay level. That'd really give you an advantage over your enemy. (If you were playing with live rounds)

  • Awesome

     stuff

  • @Lelouch798 Thank you--new guns being worked on and hopefully a new fleet sail vidio later this year.

  • Thats impressive, never seen anything like this before.

Thumbs up for the one who build the boat.

  • @softie1975 Thank you sir, I appreciate you taking time to comment. The ship is a kit from SC&H in Palo Alto CA and the real work was done by Phillip Roberts who designed the kit. All I did with my multi thumbed hands was put it together and sail it.

  • @softie1975 Cheers mate--I appreciate it.

  • Can you build a reloading mechanism for those carronades?

  • @learningtotowerrush The are muzzle loaded, just as the prototype. A different approach is being considered. Stay tuned.

  • @formerparatrooper That's great! would love to see one of those reload its cannons mid-voyage and unload them.

  • that was really neat..just wondering how did that take you to build?

  • @BNSF1985 I had it sailing in about 6 months after getting the kit, and I have been doing some upgrade and detail work for about 2 years. Another generation of guns is in the works right now and hopefully they will be ready for the fleet sail later this year when we go to MN to sail with some other modelers.

  • why has the HMS Surprise got a yank flag on it?

  • To: SUNCAP60--If you read the thread you will find out two things, I delete posts that have foul language in them and the dimensions of this ship is 110 inches long and 80 inches tall.

  • Rule Brita..n....... what the?

  • @TheLordLaing Surrender now sire, or we Yanks will run you through!

  • L☺L He just sank three Jet skis with those shots.

  • Really nice job with the Surprise! She's beautiful.

  • @LuteNYC Thank you sir, I apprecaite it. We hope to have a 2nd generation set of guns later this year if our tests of the new systems work out. Stay tuned.

  • wondering why a british ship is flying the american flag

  • @woozypeak Read the previously posted comments please. Thank you.

  • @woozypeak It was captured by american's pirates. Yarrgh.

  • @woozypeak Yankee built :)

  • @woozypeak Hey when ya capture a ship ya always run up your own nations flag. It stimulates the female prisoners. Women love being captured. :) (I was a pirate in a past life, i think i got hung)

  • @woozypeak We colonialist took her as a prize.

  • very cool!

  • super, fajnie to wygląda, pozdrowienia [Poland

  • i kinda did that once and i used bottle rockets and it took me a year to perfectly build a black pearl model that was an rc and my frined made the flying dutch man lets just say his one and now mine is at the bottom of my lake

  • Incredible!

  • does the ship in the second section vid. look a little bigger than the first ship to anyone else? (starting at 0:22 seconds)

  • @Blakesande It's the same ship. I built it and I made the video, it's the same ship.

    Thanks for writing though.

  • Корвет прям из корсаров)

  • Looks great, wonderful detail,

However as HMS (His/Her Majesty's Ship) Surprise it is not likely she would be flying Old Glory. Then she could have been the spoils of war, that makes a better story.

  • TAKE THAT KAYAKERS!!!!

  • I relly want to see a ship model battle.... But I know it must cost a large amount of money to mend the ship...

  • Your boat is wonderful! We are just starting to build our first RC fregatte and would love to equip her with carronades, too. We already experimented a bit, but I wondered if you would like to share your construction knowledge of your guns with us?

  • @brazilcoming There is a thread that you might look up under RC Groups called Syren, Brig, SC&H R/C Square Rigger, 1/24 scale that has some information about the guns in it. My thread is about sailing only under RC Groups > Boats > Scale Sailboats Sailing SC&H 1/24 scale square rigged ships. Look them up and it should help.

  • @formerparatrooper: great! looks promising. thanks a lot for the hint!

  • Excelent! +1

  • Excellent

  • man this is awesome.. how I wish a group of people like you will create a fleet and rage wars with other people.. lol it should be seen on pay per view hahaha

  • Did u add that sound?

  • THANK YOU--- I think this is the best thing I will see all day. Definitely sharing!

  • @tackyman2011 Thank you, you have made my day!

  • Your video is a favorite on Nepal

  • great model

  • Surprise certainly wore American colours (forgive my British spelling ) on many occasions. Always as a legitimate "Ruse de Guerre" to fool enemy ships into the belief that a friend was at hand. As long as the true colours broke out before any engagement it was considered absolutely acceptable.

Great work - well done. Philip

  • @scmorley1 Thank you Philip--I appreciate you taking time to write. We have a lot of fun hoisting different ensigns and engaging in combat but even more fun in making a video now and again. Thanks.

  • Lol my birthday is May 14

  • Awesome video. Congratulations. If you are making another one, can't wait to see it.

  • @suguspjr Sailing and making videos is probably done for the winter but we hope to be able to do another fleet sail in Minnesota with some other captains and make some good gun fight videos sometime next year. Thanks for taking time to write.

  • 9 people were hit by HMS Surprise

  • why do you say sorry for your video??? It's good, anyway!

  • @eishockeyjunkee I did not know I said I was sorry, but I am having fun.

  • This looks very real nice job

  • Just before she comes out of the fog, and fire at the enemy, the hole crew shouts SURPRISE!!

  • @EvilPoet85 You may not believe me but we camped out at the lake one night to get some night shots of the guns firing and hoping to get some video of the ship coming out of the fog in the morning. It did not form that morning.but the night video shots were nice. Thanks for writing.

  • Why does the HMS Surprise have an American flag?

  • @NewXlanar Read the comments.

  • She steers exceeding close to the wind....

  • @Long23 It is the 40# lead keel under this ship that allows it to hold course and she does sail about 6 points to the wind as did the real ship. Thank you for taking time to write.

  • quanto custa um modelo deste tipo em media?

  • @hack932 Vá a site SC&H e traduza a sua moeda e linguagem

  • Not fast enough men! We need to fire two broadsides to this video's one!

  • @VollyTyrannis Aye sire--we're working on it.

  • fake sound

  • @mypyro2 FAKE PYRO--of course it is dubbed in, just how much sound do you think a model like this should make?

  • You should put bbs in front of the gun powder and get some people with battleships and have a war

  • @dinoguy500 Are you for real? Do you not read the other comments here?

  • love the model, especially the guns, genius idea.

  • @0theotherguy15 Thank you ship mate.

  • IS THIS EVEN LEGAL IN OUR STATE????

  • @SkyHawk024 Who cares? Liberal democrats are legal here and they are always shooting off their mouths and no one really cares.

  • @SkyHawk024 What would be illegal about it?

  • Cripes, that was just fantastic! The on-board view was cool. Well done sir!

  • @MrStoney61 Thank you sire, I appreciate you taking time to write.

  • @MrStoney61 I agree, the on-board camera angle seemed to be a fresh perspective from the usual footage. The sound editing was tight too. Excellent work Mr film maker.

  • Can you picture that thing in the heat of battle.....

  • @jacob1999ish Oh yeh! We have done several fleet sails with other modelers of ships of the same scale. The gun fights are especially enjoyable to watch. Look up the fleet sail videos and you can see the two ships hammering it out. Thanks for writing.

  • @formerparatrooper What happened to the sound? I actually see people commenting on how good the audio is for this video but there isn't any 4 days later. If someone filed a claim saying you were using something copyrighted, I feel your pain, I had a claim on my videos that I had to dispute and none of my videos have music at all, just me talking.

  • @hzuiel G'day--this particular video I did not have sound other than dubbing in some cannon fire. It was more a test to fire the guns than to make a video. So far the other videos I have up still have the music on them as far as I know.

  • @teckman3 Ta mate. We hope to do another fleet sail in the spring and hopefully we will get some action videos of both ships firing.

  • @teckman3 A quirk of nature? Actually there are a lot of reasons, number one being I am an American and I just love tweeking the POMES. I do hoist the Union when engaging some other modelers during our fleet sailing but I mostly fly the stars and stripes. Airborne!

  • Hey that was sweet...i live on my boat in the Florida Keys and thought about doing something like that...Good job the ship looked great too!!

  • @jasonvaughn777 Thank you sir, I appreciate you taking time to write.

  • Dear Santa!

  • coolest rc thing seen so far youtube rules find so many cool rc stuff i never seen before

  • @richardarichter123 Thank you sir, I appreciate you taking time to write.

  • @formerparatrooper no prob keep on with the cool vids

  • dear santa....

  • nice one :)

  • It looks so amazing. I'm left without words! Would love to get my hands on something like this someday...

  • That was totally amazing.

  • @jbearden Thank you sire.

  • HMS surprise with an American flag???? you do realize its a English ship

  • Wonderful video, you did well combining all the disparate skills needed. Thank you for posting. I love the ship, the stories (have read them all multiple times) and the era. I haven't the money to start filling a hole like this, but someday I would hope to have the chance.

    Well done, that man!

  • @OldFlonk Thank you sire: I really appreciate you taking time to write your encouragment.

  • Are there larger rigged RC ships such as these, and is it possible too fire a full broadside at once with said larger ship?

  • @Truex007 I dunno if there are larger ships, this one is big enough at 120 pounds. I do not have the capability to fire all the guns at once--power is the problem. It has to be regulated and it cannot be on the nichrome wire more than a second to heat it and fire. A rolling broadside is all that is possible with the technology of the present day.

  • @formerparatrooper Estes Ignighters

  • Where do you buy a model like that? :) Not a model like Titanic but more like HMS Surprise.

  • @xTitanicPicx This was a kit from Steel, Chapman and Huchinson in Palo Alto CA. I am not able to post a link to their site here but you should be able to type that into your search engine and it should come up.

  • @formerparatrooper Ok. Thanks

  • Looks so real. Could be used in a movie.

  • Never was the HMS surprise an AMERICAN vessel. That should be the Union Jack at her Stern. Points granted though that you have Ship of the Red Fleet at her masthead.

  • @Beowulf1ca She's a ship of AMERICA now though! I have flown the Union but it looks like the ensign of the Don't ask don't tell' crowd from the north of the border and I prefer the flag of MY NATION!

  • I read all O'brian series. Can't remember the name of Dr. on board but remember him saying in one book, "It 's an unfair woman who will excite in a man desires she has no intentions of satisfying, or words to that effect. Also read the Alexander Kent (author) series, Lewrie Series (so far) and Hornblower series. Fell in love with the HMS Surprise. You have a great model and operate it well. Tnks for sailing it and especially for the great sounding cannon fire. Great video.

  • @flourburger Thank you sir, I really appreciate you taking time to write. I read on your site that you flew U-6s in the Nam. I really appreciate your service. It was Dr. Maturin. One thing about this ship is that even though it is still a hole in the water into which I have poured money, it is a rather small hole that seems to never get full.

  • its a beautiful model, and firering is just an extra dimension

    just great

  • @rovman007 Thank you sir, I appreciate you taking time to write.

  • Nice ship.. nice video : )

  • @lonewolf037 Thank you sir.

  • someone should build an acheron model and have these two battle it out and film it.

  • I am thinking about buying and building a model of hms victory now that would be some whopping firepower assuming it worked. lol

  • Absolutely cool.

  • aww so epic

  • why is the hms suprise flying an american flag?

  • @SupremeAlliedCmdr13 It all started when we colonialists took the prize away from the POMEs and since I am the Master and Commander I fly the ensign of my own prejudice.

  • @formerparatrooper oooooohhhhhh didnt make the connection. very nice.

  • @SupremeAlliedCmdr13 Thank you Commander, I appreciate the response. One has to smile at times, especially in modeling and I get a lot of smiles out of folks visiting this channel and commenting on some of the toys.

  • @formerparatrooper the ship is a thing of beauty. as a military history major and a fan of naval history since i was a kid, its incredibly cool to see your reproductions. great work.

  • Amazing!

  • That is absolutely incredible. I have always fantasizes about having a model ship actually open fire, but I have never seen it before until I saw this video. Thank you for the inspiration I probably am going to try to build one for my self now.

  • @TheStarwarskid1997 Thank you.

  • Are you going to sell it?

  • @TOMTHETOUGHGUY Tom, I might entertain that. Send me a PM and we can talk, I wouldn't attempt a conversation like that in a thread of this type.

  • Do the guns fire anything or is it just an effect?

    Very nice ship, looks amazing.

  • @VeyronBD No, we never load anything in the bore. It would be extremely dangerous and we are in it for the fun. Remember the kid in the Christmas Story--you load one of these and you'll shoot yer eye out!

  • @formerparatrooper They actually work, that's some amazing craftwork there.

  • @VeyronBD Thank you.

  • @VeyronBD Absolutely NEVER put a projectile in a model such as this. You'll shoot yer eye out!

  • oh man that was awesome
