I was stunned by Sowmya;s superb rendition.. at thr ponit "Mamaniye" it touched my heart strings. "Kaliyugavarathan' by her is the best and cool of the lot. I stll cherish her classical performance at New Jersey in 1995,. You are wonderful Sowmya.
Still something puzzles me, why a simple asahal, alap or a brigha by Carnatic musicians takes so long, while the singers like Hariharan or Rashid Khan sings the same in a flash in their concert! Don't mistake me.
the answer to the puzzle is, in carnatic music one can see the intrecasy and detail of each gamaka, raaga alaapana .... again each has its own beauty comparing two eyes of music is impossible
You mean they are musically the same by reach, but different when the detailed version of the same while performed under different style, scenario, approach though sharing similar classical base, but different technical intricacies to achieve the same technique down the line, but shouldn't be compared, since the end audience always experience an uniquely different sound, when they come across a plethora of artists with different frame of mind and a vision to satisfy the world.
@vensub Doing a song a 'in a flash'' is not always a virtue. Carnatic (and Hindustani) music is something that needs be savored slowly and enjoyed like fine wine or gourmet food.
Hariharan who is one of my favorite singers has extensive training in both Carnatic and Hindustani classical music. If he is asked to do a concert exclusively in Carnatic or Hindustani music, he will do it exactly like Sowmya or Bombay Jayashree, taking time and doing full justice to the classical music traditions.
Carnati music structure is diff from hindustani structure. One may ask why hindustani music doesnt have so many Kalpana Swarams Patterns as Carnatic Music. In carnatic music, we follow a pattern of Slowly getting into the mood.and then doing all the brigas etc. Also, we dont do the brighaas for every raga.. sum ragas demand the brighas & sum r beautiful as is For the ones which take brighaas,u will find them coming in slowly.as the pattern makes people settle in to take the serious stuff

Carnatic, Hindustani are the two eyes of the Indian classical music, will live ever unscathed by other musical influences present in this modern era!
Dont mistake me again :-)
