In the interest of full disclosure :) I am a NYC liberal. . .with a gun (which I keep ALWAYS between myself and my door and no place else, thanks very much). It grieves me that there seems to be no way to keep guns out of the hands of crazy people like Cho. That's all. Wish it were different.

Although i do support gun control, i agree with you. No one ever keeps a level head about these subjects, they're either shouting "GUNS KILL PEOPLE" or "DON'T TAKE AWAY OUR GUNS!" No one ever notices that it's the persons fault. You're right, there's plenty of ways to kill people, ways that would take less time but still do more damage. You seem to take opinions seriously, please address mine.

We do need gun control. Not getting rid of them but even you must think that we need to get rid of "Cop killer" bullets. But, that's not going to stop crime. You're going to have jackasses who think that gun control is a just cause to go on a rampage. You can't disarm them, so you try to prevent people like that from coming up. The problems in society. Even if guns have low control, society is higher on the list of things we need to fix. But people waste time by blaming a gun.

Sadly, you are wrong. While you don't have mass murders, your violent crime rate has been on the rise ever since you outlawed most firearms. It's a fact. Look it up. Meanwhile, in the US, most areas have seen decreases in violent crime since concealed-carry was enacted. Violent crime tends to rise mainly in areas where guns are restricted.

I am tired of trying to explain to people that want to hate Seung-Hui because of their knee-jerk reactions. I will say that he too was a victim but hating is easier. And i agree. Sometimes these major faces get caught up in the story, and they forget what is actually happening. It is almost like "mob mentality" in a way. You get so swept up in the hysteria, you lose sight of the big picture, what is actually going on, and the fact that real lives were lost and real hearts are breaking.

I think now we know what happened, and we need to back off so these people can grieve properly. This isn't healthy.

One more thing: when it comes to weapons smuggling: WE'RE the source. Canadian authorities estimate 75% of smuggled guns in their country come from the US: apparently, we're their Mexico.

I even found an article about a smuggling ring running guns from the US to Haiti inside of frozen turkeys.

I am not a member of the NRA, but ASSuming that is the primary goal of the organization, or it's constituents, is short-sighted. While any organizations focus may change over time, it was created to support 2nd amedment rights. A large percentage of it's members have joined for this reason.

JustAllen: Do you have a source for that smuggling claim? I would bet...but can't prove...that most weapons are smuggled WITHIN the US after being shipped in legally. Gun dealers sell them, after which they are traded between private parties or through gun shows, where no background checks are required. Go to the Brady site to see which LICENSED gun dealers provide most of the country's crime guns.

I watched celebrities & politicians using the events of Virginia Tech to bring up Gun Control / Millions of individuals across the nation jumped on the debating of that issue / All I could think was, "How damn inappropriate"

There were bodies still on the ground and the news was searching gun stores for the guy that sold Seung-Hui Cho two pistols.

The media found it bad taste to continue to give noteriety to the gunman for weeks/months after the shootings. They decided to give the news then stop giving 'fame' to the gunman by giving him too much air time. Thats why they said they moved on so quickly.

Thanks for mentioning my video Allen - I, too, think that weak watered down gun laws aren't going to solve anything, but I would like to know the REAL facts on how many millions of unnecessary guns are manufactured and imported and exported. I think locks and lame 3 day waiting periods are only a placebo.
