People are annoyed and disgusted with this guy's audible swallowing because it's NOT necessary. A select few are arrogant enough to actually do this this lick-smacking or swallowing and it never fails to annoy people. So at our expense, this guy is being a smart-ass and i believe he knows it.
who thinks the hot rod sounds to trebly and in your face? I can't get a nice mellow tone on the clean channel.. in the studio the sounds are also very high mostly... should I replace my tubes? I've got my amp for 4 years now or something...
someone tell me who this guy is and why he has so many views. he's awful and the video makes this amp sound horrible, and I think we all know this amp is awesome. dude, pack it up, please.
The mad fucking swallower strikes again. Holy shit this guy is aweful. I'd fire this guy in a nano second. If this guy still has a job it's a miracle.
@TheHooligan1968 I got the hot rod deluxe 3 and I alread have a fault lol it makes a vibrateing hum when it the 10th fret of D string, I think it is either one of the power tubes, as 2 have foam stabilizer on and one dosent, if not its something vibrating that needs tightening up, which i am told is a common vault on hot rod deluxe. apart from that its awesome for clean, don't like overdrive but I did not buy it for that.
@TheHooligan1968 So the means you only pay £450 UK pounds and we pay £700 - £800, if I orded from US it would be £450 but add £200 on for shipping = £650, so I would only be £50 better off, which is not worth the hassel if it goes wrong, as buying local the local dealer will sort faults ect out.
I went to my local guitar store last week and plugged in my Mexican Fender Jazzmaster. Sounded amazing. Now i watched this video, and still am adamant that I can make my Squier Strat' sound better on a 30W transistor Marshall amp.
Seriously guys, this Hot Rod amp is like, WOW. What is up with this video?
I am thinking of buying this amp on thursday, so would love to be pointed to good demo. I know its going to be around £700 and the music shop will offer me £250 for my crate 120 halfstack in mint condition 6 month old, its a good amp for metal, but I want that fender clean sound.

Great! we've got a great amplifier attachabe guitar grip for this, check out our youtube channel vonsaintdesign the combo grip double works best with Fender combo amps
Well, I guess it's good (or not good) to know that the reverb sounds crappy on ALL Hot Rod Deluxes, and not just mine (I got mine used - It's a US-made one from '97).
God, he approaches the thing like he's in one of those music stores that won't let you make any noise. What's he got the volume on? 1 & a half? In the PGS video, at least they give it some volume. Sounds much-better @ 6 than 1. Can't say I like the 'hands free' mic he's using (Probably-not his idea, so can't fault him for that).
This video does NOTHING to make this amp sound good. Its a great amp but this video sucks. First off, his mic isn't even on the speaker. To get it sounding nice the mic should be closer to the center of the speaker and a bit farther out. And seriously, if you are going to demo an amp (especially a tube amp) TURN IT UP! Slam some power through those tubes so people can hear what the amp really sounds like!
@dgmccann : I agree .. mic the amp, eliminate that room echo ... and the hiss in the recording.. oh, & drink some water and quit swallowing every sentence lol .. just catch your breath,
@dgmccann From what I read, this is a pretty decent mic placement. Also, the center of the speaker is apparently the worst place for a mic. The best option is a decent amp with a speaker emulated DI that actually sounds good, like my Marshall JVM or my Egnater Renegade.
@lighteningboy Well there are a lot of different ideas on mic placement and different ones will work, but that is what i prefer in the studio. You gotta get these tube amps cranking to really hear them shine! I don't agree with a DI, it can never really replicate the sound of a good amp with a little care and effort in mic'ing it up to make it sound sweet. I'm guessing he is running this amp super low to keep the volume under wraps, even then it should sound better. This video baffles me...

@JakeVidCo are u planning on using this for a "big festival?" it gets plenty loud as it is 40w true tube-- but of course it will distort even at "clean" whenever it gets cranked up too loud. believe me, i've tried. "big festivals" typically have big sound systems, and you certainly can mic this amp, or send the output directly into the mix via the "preamp out" (albeit, it bypasses the reverb completely). very versitile amp when used correctly.
I have tried playing a Gibson SG through this amp - in the drive channel of course - and i tell you: blues can gtfo. Playing stuff like AC/DC with that guitar+amp combination is just fantastic. Also note that it sounds alot less distorted in this vid (I don't know why?) but my school has one of these, and you can easily play hard rock and heavy metal with this one.
It just sounds so ...weak; his choice of guitar tone nob and amp settings for an amp demo. I can barely hear the guitar let alone the amp's tubes ..and it's not just because of my laptop speakers, hah.
Sorry dude, but this demo sucks. The amp volume is set way too low to get a taste of the capabilities of this amp. Are you afraid you will wake your mother?
sounds very clear. i want this amp but i wanna try it out first. i have the super champ right now so that will hold me for now till i can but a higher end one. the sc is awesome though

@liveHRA Sure it is, but if you're looking for either Marshallness or Mesaness out of it, you'll need a compression and/or overdrive pedal, as it really isn't the tool for that use. By the same token, it's tough to get that nice Fender clean out of other stuff. Although Mesa does a hell of a good job. Look at the new Transatlantic TA-15
I have this amp, but it brings back bad memories. Last year, I was warming up before a gig at home, and I decided to really turn the amp up loud...push it hard. Little did I know my cat was sleeping in the cab. I turned it on, struck a chord, and now Skittles is deaf. Oh well, thats the price you pay for good tone.
the sound in their demos kind of suck. i dont know if its their mic setup, or software, but it just sounds kind of sterile, and the tube amps sound like solid state. i think the demos would sound better if you put the mic back further, turned up the volume more, and let the sound fill the room and get more ambience.
i'm pretty good at playing lead guitar and on some days i'm even better but i wish i could play as amazingly and as beautifuly and as fluidly as jason spencer. so don't listen to the haters jason and just keep right on playing. from one guitar picker to another. :)
@supernub67 I have this Mesa 50-50 that's out of production it's probably the best amp i've ever played in my life and I have it! I personally love Mesa the lower gain amps they have go awesome with a strat the distortion is really gritty and it's so warm.
I have this amp, however I get way to much noise from it. There is always constant buzzing when I have overdrive on, and even in clean I still get faint noise. From seeing this demo, it proves to me that my amp should NOT be making those noises. What could I do? I'm thinking of having the tubes replaced but that's pretty expensive, and I don't know what kind I should look for.
for the preamp tubes ( 3 x 12AX7 ) you could spend heaps on vintage N.O.S. tubes but I STRONGLY recommend a matched triplet of (1999 - 2002) SOVTEK 12AX7LPS .
There are older and more sort-after/expensive tubes but these Sovteks are THE BEST SOUNDING 12AX7 tubes I've EVER heard and they are only $25 - $35 each on ebay and such. As for the 2 x Larger 6L6 tubes It might be worth getting older more sort after tubes for this job. i'd get two Vintage Matched GE 6L6 : ) YES, It'll be worth it !
hi. im buying my first fender amp in the next month or so. im used to crate and ive always liked fender. im just wondering if i should buy the deluxe or the deville
@ricochetfuzzy dude c'mon...Nirvana sounds? make up your own sounds! Hell...Nirvana is my favorite band but c'mon...no need to copy someone else's "sound"
@aaron93m i have my own sound which i use in my own grunge band. I'm also trying to start a Nirvana tribute band and that is the reason for my question. :)
@ricochetfuzzy No! Bad mistake.Don't be a tribute band, Kurt would hate that.I understand playing some Nirvana tunes by yourself for the fun of it.Make up your own stuff
@aaron93m i have my own music too. tribute bands are just fun and are an easy way to make money is all. it puts my passion for the music into good practise too so its not all bad :)
If you are going to be using an effects pedal for your distortion, theres no point in getting a tube amp. Get a really clean solid state. I got a Roland JC-120 online for $400 (one of the best clean amps I've ever played) and I run a Pod x3 Live in front of it for distortion. It sounds really good. Most people get a tube amp to get that overdriven, tube sound. A solid state would be more reliable.
@tighttritenight well if I am looking to buy a brand new amp which amp would you recommend me buying so I can use the cleans from that and then run the distortion from my boss gt 10 through the amp.
@mcj3691 How do you figure that? The JC-120 handles pedals extremely well. I just played a live show with just the jc120 and a pod x3 live and I got quite a few compliments on my sound. I'm not going to say it accurately replicates a good tube amp, but its also more reliable, lightweight, and simple. Go check out some videos of the jc120. There are a lot of people who use distortion pedals with it and it sounds great.
@guitardude5592 , no a basic overdrive / distortion pedal is better, it will push the amp, the gt10 works a different way and will not compliment or even use the sound of this amp (in lamans words). Give it a try, get a tube screamer or something.
Can you please just play some powerchords, nirvana style just to give some sounds that underpins most rock, you are a great payer but over do the solos a bit...just some basic power chords pleeaase!
im looking into buying a new amp and I am thinking about getting this one. I have the boss gt 10 multi effects board. Do you think the distortion from that will sound good through this amp and wont sound too fake/synthetic?
@sharpiesweettrivium God Damnit. That's the first comment I read, and of course now I can't listen to the video without hearing anything but the swallowing. UGH.
Amps are so diferent.and mfgs are trying to make one amp do it all. Line 6 does a good job with their modeling.Fenders without modeling will always sound like a Fender which limits what they can be used forI have a Hot Rod deluxe,Super Champ,Peavey studio pro,Epiphone Jr, and Mesa Boogie maverick combo..all sound diff and each is good for its own sound..but to play metal on a HRD is a no no (not designed for it)
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
actually i own one but i had to buy another amp because i don´t liked the crispy sound. I´ve buy an Line 6 Spider III and i´m completely satisfied. I know its not a valve amp but this Line 6 sounds really god.

Hey, thanks man. Nice to see and hear about this amp. I'm just looking at maybe getting it. Appreciate your demo. Keep it up.

@supernub67 yes, and if not, an overdrive pedal over would make it ideal

This demo makes this amp sound terrible.
The drive channel is shit though regardless.

lol I have this amp and I use it in a Death metal band :D

lol my guitarist uses this amp.......doesn't sound anywhere as weak and thin sounding as this piece of shit xD

i tried it yesterday and it sounded wayyy better than this..
ROCKERTAV8 1 year ago
the sound in their demos kind of suck. i dont know if its their mic setup, or software, but it just sounds kind of sterile, and the tube amps sound like solid state. i think the demos would sound better if you put the mic back further, turned up the volume more, and let the sound fill the room and get more ambience.

i'm pretty good at playing lead guitar and on some days i'm even better but i wish i could play as amazingly and as beautifuly and as fluidly as jason spencer. so don't listen to the haters jason and just keep right on playing. from one guitar picker to another. :)

@supernub67 I have this Mesa 50-50 that's out of production it's probably the best amp i've ever played in my life and I have it! I personally love Mesa the lower gain amps they have go awesome with a strat the distortion is really gritty and it's so warm.
DMoon34 1 year ago
Fender should not allow this asshole to do demos. He makes every amp and guitar sound like shit. STOP!
tonyc329 1 year ago
@supernub67 dunno if you mean mesa or fender. Fender is great sounding and affordible, mesa is aswell but EXTREMELY versatile thus worth the money

megadeth773 1 year ago
It'd be quite good. This would better suit their self-titled-esque style songs, their earlier stuff a mesa would be better for

with the right guitar the distortion sounds amazing in this.

DiCola119 1 year ago
for the preamp tubes ( 3 x 12AX7 ) you could spend heaps on vintage N.O.S. tubes but I STRONGLY recommend a matched triplet of (1999 - 2002) SOVTEK 12AX7LPS .
There are older and more sort-after/expensive tubes but these Sovteks are THE BEST SOUNDING 12AX7 tubes I've EVER heard and they are only $25 - $35 each on ebay and such. As for the 2 x Larger 6L6 tubes It might be worth getting older more sort after tubes for this job. i'd get two Vintage Matched GE 6L6 : ) YES, It'll be worth it !
nair0bij0nes 1 year ago
@nair0bij0nes Hey thanks allot! Is two all I need? I was given the amp from a family member and it's my first tube amp so I have little experience.

Could I possibly get a Beatlesy tone to this?

Sounds so awesome! and it's pretty affordable too! And that strat is beautiful in that tobacco burst.

@aaron93m i have my own sound which i use in my own grunge band. I'm also trying to start a Nirvana tribute band and that is the reason for my question. :)
ricochetfuzzy 1 year ago
@ricochetfuzzy No! Bad mistake.Don't be a tribute band, Kurt would hate that.I understand playing some Nirvana tunes by yourself for the fun of it.Make up your own stuff
aaron93m 1 year ago
@aaron93m i have my own music too. tribute bands are just fun and are an easy way to make money is all. it puts my passion for the music into good practise too so its not all bad :)

does anyone know if it would sound good using the overdrive/distortion from my boss gt 10 through this amp without it sounding fake?
guitardude5592 1 year ago
If you are going to be using an effects pedal for your distortion, theres no point in getting a tube amp. Get a really clean solid state. I got a Roland JC-120 online for $400 (one of the best clean amps I've ever played) and I run a Pod x3 Live in front of it for distortion. It sounds really good. Most people get a tube amp to get that overdriven, tube sound. A solid state would be more reliable.
tighttritenight 1 year ago
@tighttritenight well if I am looking to buy a brand new amp which amp would you recommend me buying so I can use the cleans from that and then run the distortion from my boss gt 10 through the amp.
guitardude5592 1 year ago
@tighttritenight I can't think of a worse amp to run a distortion pedal into than the JC-120.
mcj3691 1 year ago
@mcj3691 How do you figure that? The JC-120 handles pedals extremely well. I just played a live show with just the jc120 and a pod x3 live and I got quite a few compliments on my sound. I'm not going to say it accurately replicates a good tube amp, but its also more reliable, lightweight, and simple. Go check out some videos of the jc120. There are a lot of people who use distortion pedals with it and it sounds great.
tighttritenight 1 year ago
@guitardude5592 , no a basic overdrive / distortion pedal is better, it will push the amp, the gt10 works a different way and will not compliment or even use the sound of this amp (in lamans words). Give it a try, get a tube screamer or something.
jamerol 1 year ago
Can you please just play some powerchords, nirvana style just to give some sounds that underpins most rock, you are a great payer but over do the solos a bit...just some basic power chords pleeaase!
pbest75 1 year ago
im looking into buying a new amp and I am thinking about getting this one. I have the boss gt 10 multi effects board. Do you think the distortion from that will sound good through this amp and wont sound too fake/synthetic?
guitardude5592 1 year ago
whats a good amp i can just get good clean sound then just switch over to a metal type of sound(pedal/stompbox)?

Amps are so diferent.and mfgs are trying to make one amp do it all. Line 6 does a good job with their modeling.Fenders without modeling will always sound like a Fender which limits what they can be used forI have a Hot Rod deluxe,Super Champ,Peavey studio pro,Epiphone Jr, and Mesa Boogie maverick combo..all sound diff and each is good for its own sound..but to play metal on a HRD is a no no (not designed for it)
