Germany in total lost around 4 million soldiers and civilians, while the USSR lost around 20 million in total, but that number also came from the attacks on Poland. They made the attacks in such places where there was minimal civilian population and they tried to avoid confrontation unless ambushing some officers car or ambushing important object and taking live German prisoners for interrogation.
